Chapter 1: Entity Unknown
Chapter 1: Entity Unknown
The blizzard was murder, pounding hard against the armor the guards were wearing which had fur on the inside to keep them warm, but it wasn't helping much against the harsh cold winds. The team had been sent out into the Crystal Mountains after hearing a strange disturbance about some kind of unknown entity coming from there, the orders were given by Princess Celestia herself. The team consisted of nothing but 6 of the best guards in Canterlot along with her majesties favorite court wizard who was going to be the one investigating into the matter.
Stormgaze; the court wizard, was using a special kind of spell that aloud him to track down anything extraordinary and supernatural, revealing the location of the entity. So far they had nothing, but were getting closer and closer to the problem with each step. Princess Celestia had put her trust into Stormgaze for being one of the best wizards in all of Equestria and believed that if there was anything supernatural going on, he'd be able to figure it out. He was a blue unicorn but it was hard to see him during the blizzard, and the fact that he was wrapped up from head to hoof.
Princess Celestia also had trust in the guards. Alpha team were the best and toughest of them all, they had a reputation for slaughtering fearsome dragons and other dangerous creatures that stood in their way. There was a new recruit who had just joined the team, he wasn't as experienced as the rest of the team, but he had aced the training well. He was a green Earth Pony who didn't talk at all, nor did he give a shit. Nopony knows anything about him, or even understands him, not even Princess Celestia.
After about several more minutes, Stormgaze had picked up a strong signal coming from a cave that was well visible in the distance due to there being torches lit all around the outside.
"Over there, see that cave?" Stormgaze pointed the cave out to the guards whilst trying to shout over the nasty, malicious storm that was bombarding them, "The signal is coming from that there cave. Come on, let's go check it out."
The soldiers got up to the cave and inspected the torches, they were almost burning out as if they had been lit for a long time. They quickly galloped inside the cave to take cover from the blitz like wind of snow, it was dark inside but they managed to light it up with flares and torches that they had packed along the way. The cave it's self was eerie, with a sense of evil just lurking around the corner. The guards prepared themselves in case something was in there with them, Even Stormgaze equipped a spell.
"Keep an eye out," said the captain as he was instructing his team, "Could be anything skulking around in here."
"Probably just trolls," said Stormgaze.
"Could be, but I have a bad feeling about this place," the captain replied.
"This place already feels like a bad omen, but this is where the signals were coming from so we should push on ahead before something snatches us" Stormgaze said to the brainless captain who's mind was full of blood spillage.
"I'm with you on that one, egghead," the captain started to build his confidence.
The further into the cave they got, the more strange whispering sounds they heard around them. This made the entire team paranoid as if something was monitoring them, waiting to pounce out at any given time. This made one of the guards so paranoid that he decided to up and leave with a "Fuck this, I'm outta here." The other guards did nothing to stop him as they didn't blame him for leaving, but he was registered as a coward in their books. The cave was full of evil, but not a single soul to be found. The whispering got louder and louder, most of it didn't even make sense, it sounded like... chanting. At that moment, Stormgaze realized that the louder the whispering got, the closer to the entity they were.
"Holy sweet Celestia! Is that what I think it is?" Gasped the captain.
They had finally found the entity, but they all couldn't believe there eyes. With each jaw dropping, they found themselves at a dead end, staring at nothing but a pentagram that had been drawn in goats blood on the cave wall. Stormgaze investigated the goats corpse, it was cold and raw as if it had been there for a while. The guards started to crack and whimper, they were going insane from what they just witnessed.
"IS THAT WHAT I FUCKING THINK IT IS!" The captain exclaimed, snarling at the brink of insanity.
"Keep your voice down, what ever did this is still around. It might find us" Stormgaze remarked.
"It's watching us as we speak. This is some real crazy shit. If you want to stay here and die then so be it, me and my boys are leaving ASAP. You understand?" A strange twitch appeared in the captains left eye as he turned around to the once most fearless group in the guard, who were now the most cowardly.
"Captain, that isn't such a good idea, we stick together at all times. God knows what's waiting for us," Stormgaze was doing his best to persuade the captain from leaving.
As the group continually argued with each other, the recruit turned to the pentagram on the wall and saw that the blood was beginning to lighten up. A strange green swirl appeared in the shape which caught the others attention, then they all cracked. The vortex was pulling what looked like ghost versions of the group out and sucking them in, it was stealing their souls. All the bodies dropped to the ground with the eye sockets empty, with their corpses rid of souls. They were all dead, flopping like fish on the ground. The recruit somehow remained unharmed, there was no explanation as to why this was, until a demonic voice spoke to him inside his head.
"Thou soul is the purist... mortal"
The guard looked around but nothing was there. The thing that was following them was in their heads the whole time, the whispers, the paranoia, and it was coming from that vortex.
"Step into thy domain, and witness the full power of Hell itself. Can thou handle it, mortal?"
The vortex was a portal, it lowered it self from the cave wall and opened up more. The guard had no choice but to step through as the exit had been blocked of by fire. The gate closed behind the guard after he entered and went back to the pentagram form.
"Thou will not live a day in thy domain of Hell!"
