Late afternoon sun rained down on Equestria, casting it in its light. Two mares, one buttercream yellow with a pink mane and tail, the other, light blue with a rainbow mane and tail, sat under a willow tree. A soft, quiet river ran by it. A picnic basket sat ontop of a red and white blanket. After a day of flying around, the two decided to have a picnic. Much to Fluttershy's delight.
'U-Uh...Dash...I..I know we've spent the w-whole day together, but would you care to join me on a picnic?" Fluttershy asked quietly, rubbing her left hoof nervously, cheeks stained red.
"Nah. Can't sorry Shy. I just got the new Daring Doo book and I got allota reading to do! Maybe tomorrow?"
The mare looked close to tears from Rainbow Dash saying no. "O-oh..Okay....S-Sorry for bothering y-you..I'll t-take my basket home..Maybe let Angel bunny have the food.." Her voice was filled with sorrow, being rejected from Dash, the one she secretly crushed on had been...Harsh.
Rainbow Dash caught the look, seeing Fluttershy, one of her greatest friends close to tears, because she said no a picnic...No. She...Could have a quick picnic. It was the right thing to do.
"Look...I'll come ok? You did pull off some cool moves when we flew, and you did come fly with me! I owe ya one I guess! Whatcha got in the basket for us?"
Fluttershy's face lit up, the mare wiped sweat off of her forehead, flapping her tired wings once in excitement as she opened the picnic basket.
The two ate a sandwich each, a cup of tea poured for each of them.
Sure, being so calm like this wasn't usually Dashes style, but it seemed to matter so much to Fluttershy! Though the food was good, and talking with Shy was pretty fun, her sandwich was half gone, the cup of tea pretty much empty. They'd been talking for about an hour, it was getting late. The sun was going to be setting in an hour or two. "Heh! Thanks Fluttershy! I really enjoy the food, but I ah gotta get home soon. It's getting late.."
Fluttershy had enjoyed the picnic so very much, though her heart was beating rapidly, the soft reddening in her cheeks couldn't seem to fade. Being so close to Dash, eating and chatting with her...It was something she enjoyed...She'd do it every day if she could. She had to make it last...Anything to just be close Rainbow! What could she do?! Fluttershy bit her lip nervously, looking around a bit. Aha! A swim couldn't hurt! "W-Why Uh...Don't...W..We go for a Swim Dash?" The pegasus's words were softly spoken, finding her voice was getting harder and harder..
"A swim?" Rainbow groaned in her mind. Sure, spending time with Fluttershy was amazing, but it was getting dark, and she did have the brand new Daring Doo book. A tiny, harmless swim couldn't hurt anymore then the picnic had. It was hot out! "Sure, I guess. Not long though alright? I gotta get home soon."
A squee erupted from Fluttershy, a tiny "Yay" could be heard. The shy, yellow mare stood up and streched, watching Dash do the same. Her heart was pounding so fast she thought it would burst!
"Kay. I'm sorry Shy but I won't be in for very long...Maybe a relaxing float...I just want to get home...S-Sorry."
"O-Oh it's ok Dash...I know you really love y-your Daring Doo books.."
"Thanks for understanding!" The mare trotted over to the water with Fluttershy, sinking into the river with a sigh. "Ahh...After a hot day of Flying I needed this.."
Fluttershy stared once again, her cheeks burning as she watched the beautiful Rainbow Dash. She loved Dash at first sight...When she stood up for her at Flight camp, all the days they spent talking...All the time they spent together, it had been so long she had this crush, but Fluttershy could just never get the courage to say it, to do anything to show how she truly felt about Dash!
The two swam for a half hour, and that's when Dash crawled out of the water. The sun was setting a little quick tonight, shadows were growing larger, she wondered why Celestia why setting it so quickly, but then making the sunset last even longer...Maybe a celberation? "Sorry...Shy I gotta get home...The suns gonna be setting soon. Celestia must be doing a special thing with the sunset or something. But I'm pretty tired and want to get in some reading tonight. I'll talk to you tomorrow!" She opened her wings, preparing to fly off.
Tell her...It'll be ok tell her..
No! She doesn't feel that way about me! S-She's...Just a friend!
You know you want to...Tell her Fluttershy...
W-Well...Maybe...I-It couldn't hurt her to know...
The battle in her mind quickly ended.
"D-Dash...Wa...Wait...Don't go please..."
Rainbow Dash looked over at her blushing friend, wondering what Shy could want now.
Fluttershy was still in the water, her wet mane sweeping over her face in an adorable way. She had to tell shy. Mustering everything she had inside of her, Fluttershy leapt out of the water, crashing into Dash and rolling in the grass with her for a second.
"Fluttershy what're y-MPhff!!"
Her friends lips lightly pushed against hers, and Dash soon found herself pushing up gently into the kiss. Fluttershys mane fell over the two of them like a curtain.
Breaking the kiss she panted, Fluttershy staring into her loves eyes. "I-I...L...Love...Y-Y...You Dash.."
Dash pushed up into another kiss, wrapping her front legs around Fluttershy "Heh...Maybe staying was the right choice.."
