Puella Magi: Friendship is Magic
Flames Before the Fire
Load Full StoryThe silhouette of branches blocked the sun rays from a small girl in a deep sleep on the earth’s floor. Slowly she came to light, brushing stray strands of hair with her hand neatly into place. Where am I? She was walking back to her home, not to a… a park? Yet that was where she found herself. Viewing her surroundings she came to the conclusion this was not really a park or anyplace that she could address with a name. What she thought were autumnal trees looked more like stalled flames on closer inspection. Am I dreaming? The young girl followed a panicky cliche and attempted to pinch herself awake. Wake up! Wake up! No matter how many times she opened her eyes after squeezing them shut, she’d open them to only find what she was trying to awake from. She whipped her head in both directions. Maybe there is a way out. Running to what she thought may lead to exit proposed only a path that looked like it lead directly into an ominous sun. Books had told her that its an optical illusion, the sun is far beyond her reach. It’s warm here, even more warm as I get closer to the sun’s image! She began to cry, “ It’s not real…”
Following her first audible sob came a calming flow of white light. The gleam hit her. She lifted her head from the cradle of her palms. Before the light was a woman whose hair streamed every color of the dawning sky. She donned a white dress that opened in the front, elongated in the back, and when the light from the flaming trees hit it you could see that it was threaded with gold. The small girl was only 10, had years to see so much more, yet she would have sworn that this was the most marvelous thing that could ever be witnessed. Every step this entity took towards the child resulted in the chaos that enveloped the two of them to fade, leaving behind a more familiar area to them, the school’s gates.
A hand was placed on the child’s cheek.
“There’s no need to cry anymore.”, her voice was as euphoric as the aura she gave off. The light she held gave out and the goddess like appearance she had was reduced to a school uniform from what looked to belong to a local High School. The hand that she caressed the young girl’s face with received a ring, an alabaster gem at it’s center, the finger it fitted had a sun painted on it’s nail.
The High Schooler took in the girl’s stunned expression, “ It’s all right now,” the girl remained motionless, “...my name is Celestia, what is yours?”
“Twilight...Twilight Sparkle.”
“Well Miss Sparkle, it’s late, we had best get you home.”, Celestia took Twilight’s hand into her own, “Which way do we go?”, with Twilights free hand she pointed her index finger in the direction behind them. Celestia took lead with Twilight Sparkles hand still in her grasp.
Red eyes traced their path.
