1: The Portal

Allison sighed as she trudged into the forest behind her house. Her family loved her, she had friends, what was there to be sad about? She walked through the forest, jumping over logs and ducking under branches, sometimes stopping to watch the bunnies scurry about. She gripped her backpack even tighter as she walked along the creek. Of course, today was not her day, and she tripped on a rock, falling into the creek face-first.

"Aw man!" She yelled, the 'aw man' echoing through the deep forest.

She smiled as she heard the echo, smiling at the sound. She got up off her hands and knees and brushed the mud on her jeans. She made sure her backpack contents were all safe. Backpack: slightly wet. Contents: perfectly fine. She smiled and walked back up to the path, not bothering to wipe the mud out of her long, honey blonde hair.

"What else are you going to throw at me, universe?" Allison asked, opening her arms wide.

Nothing.

Allison sighed as she walked up to her favorite part: the sitting area. She set down her backpack on the ground, the orange fall leaves crunching under the weight. She sat down on the bench and opened her bag. She pulled out her book, opening to page 325. Her eyes scanned the pages, her eyes darting from side to side as she read.

She stopped and dropped her book when she heard a loud boom come from behind her. She fell to her knees, covering head head, thinking something worse than falling into the creek would happen. When the horrible thing never came, she opened her clenched eyes and slowly stood from her knees. Allison turned around, a black, swirling portal-like circle open before her. Her eyes scanned it, her brain trying to think of what it was and what it did.

She put her bookmark in her blue book and put the blue book in her backpack, zipping it shut. She pulled the handles on it and started to walk around the portal. There was nothing on the other side but what was behind it. She saw the bench and her brain started to register something: time had stopped.

She walked over to the falling leaves and picked one up, crunching it in her hand, the little leaflets falling freely to the ground. The other leaves that had been falling, stuck in the air. She eyed the leaves and smiled. Time had stopped before her very eyes! She quickly fumbled in her backpack, pulling out a pen and a notebook. She sketched the leaves and scenery around her. She created a near perfect replica, but it was perfect to her. Every vein on every leaf was detailed perfectly.

She wrote down scientific mumbo jumbo that only a college student would understand, even though she was only a Junior in school. She shoved it all into her backpack and re-zipped it, then went back to the portal. It was about five feet tall, and was filled with black, different colored specks floating freely inside.

"Where's your scientific curiosity?" Allison asked herself. "It's right here! We're going on an adventure, universe, so strap on your seat belt and get ready to roll!"

Without a second thought she backed up and ran head first into the portal. As she neared it, she saw her reflection, and a split second before she jumped in, a dark blue pony with a honey blonde mane and a horn stood before her, doing the same action. Allison prepared for impact, ready to hit something hard.

Which she did.

She shook her head and looked around. Ponies with horns, or wings, or neither walked around, some stopping to stare at her sudden appearance. She gasped in wonder and fear as they spoke and gathered, before a violet pony bumped her in the side. She turned to the pony and bent down to pick up the books, finally acknowledging her own hooves. They were dark blue and her honey blonde mane flashed before her eyes.

Allison's green eyes stared at her hooves, until the pony caught her attention. She felt her head to check for a horn, as she felt a lack of wings but something on her forehead. Low and behold, a horn was there.

"Oh, hello there. I haven't seen you before. Are you new to Ponyville?" Princess Twilight Sparkle asked, lending her magic to pick up the books and replace them in her satchel.

"Ponyville? Where am I?" Allison asked.

"Are you okay? Like, okay, okay? Did you escape the Hospital?" Twilight asked, raising her brow.

"No, I came here through a portal. I come from a world where ponies don't talk, and unicorns and Pegasi definitely don't exist. Especially Alicorn's or Pegacorn's. I wrote some scientific data, if you're into that thing. In my world, we have fingers and hands, not hooves." Allison said. "Oh, my name is Allison, by the way."

"I am Twilight Sparkle. I don't mean to brag, but I'm a Princess. You can call me Twilight. What a strange coincidence. A friend I know who looks a lot like you just disappeared when you appeared. Come with me, I think I can help you. Or at least I know some pony who can." Twilight said, beckoning for Allison to follow.

"Some pony? Where I come from, we say 'somebody', not 'some pony'. I guess I'll get used to it." Allison said as she trotted alongside Twilight.

"I'd love to learn everything about your culture, especially if you are a scientist too!" Twilight made a squealing sound.

"I'm not a scientist, but I'd love to trade cultural knowledge." Allison replied. "Wait, you're a scientist?"

"Not exactly. A few years ago my mentor Princess Celestia sent me here to Ponyville to learn about the Magic of Friendship. I have five new friends who help me represent the Elements of Harmony, the strongest force in Equestria."

Allison was already scribbling notes down on a notepad, a pencil in her light blue magic. Wait. Magic?!

"Wow, this is amazing!" Allison exclaimed.

"Shall I continue inside my home?" Twilight asked, gesturing to her tree house.

"Oh, yes, I'd love to know everything, and I mean everything about your culture!" Allison exclaimed.

"Okay, well, the Elements of Harmony protect Equestria, the continent we are standing on. There are various other kingdoms within our earth, but first, let me inform you about my friends. I represent the Element of Magic. My friend Rarity, a unicorn, is the Element of Generosity. And then there's Applejack, an earth pony with the Element of Honesty. That leads to Rainbow Dash, the fastest Pegasus alive, the Element of Loyalty. And then the last Pegasus, the Element of Kindness is Fluttershy. Lastly, the pink, bubbly earth pony, Pinkie Pie, the Element of Laughter." Twilight went on, making tea. She poured some tea into two cups, which the two drank greedily.

"I'm not very used to this magic thing. The aura it releases is amazing, I must admit. But I think I'll need more practice before I start to use fine china. I'll use my hand-hooves, I mean." Allison corrected herself. "Now, tell me everything about your history and world, please!"

"What an eager student! I like you, you're just as eager as me!" Twilight started. "Well, it all started about one trillion years ago..."

[Three Hours of Note Taking Later]

"And that concludes the history of Equestria. Now, please tell me everything about your world!" Twilight insisted.

"It is long and boring, but I will indulge you, my friend!" Allison stated. "Well, when we begin our history, we start at the year labeled '1'..."
