The Blade
Chapter 1: The Discovery
I walked through the Everfree Forest, not wanting to be in here more than I had to. Zecora’s hut was nearby; hopefully I can reach there before nightfall, I thought to myself. I walked down the beaten path towards the hut, until something caught my eye, it was a light. I turn towards where the light came from and started to slowly trot towards it.
The light began to become brighter as I approached it; almost enough to use my wings to shield my eyes, but it wasn’t that bad. The light seemed… unnatural, almost like somepony wanted me to approach it, like somepony wanted me to notice it, but I shrugged it off; not really caring about that currently. I should’ve brought Spike with me; he could’ve gone to Zecora’s as I looked at wherever this light was coming from, but… I just had to send him to Canterlot on royal business, I may be Princess Celestia’s protégé, but I still can be stupid sometimes…
I continued trotting towards the source of light and soon I found a small tree, wait, was this tree the source of the light? I asked myself. Where did the light even go? I start looking around the tree for the light, but to no I found nothing… then I heard it…
Twilight Sparkle, I’ve been waiting for you to come here, said a smooth, female voice inside of my head.
“Who’s there?!” I nearly shouted into the forest, my eyes widening. What’s going on? Who is that? I thought frantically to myself.
No need to be in fear, child. I am Vera, the Queen of the Night, and Treachery. The voice said in my head again. I have been watching you recently, element bearer. And I have chosen you of all the other ponies to be my champion.
“What if I don’t want to be your champion,” I asked the voice in my head. Suddenly, the world went dark, I saw nothing but darkness everywhere, I had no idea what was going on. My body began to tremble on its own will, no matter what I wanted it to do.
If you refuse, then you will be eternally my slave and lap-dog. You will never be free again; you will experience the death of all your friends, and ones you care about. The voice wickedly said in my head. But if you agree to it, you will have glory others can only wish for, and fame among every creature in every nation.
I see no other way, I don’t want to be a slave, and I don’t want to be a lap-dog to this… whatever Vera was. “I’ll go along with your offer…” I said through my teeth, angry at this Vera.
Wise choice, Twilight Sparkle. I knew you wanted to be my champion when I saw you in this forest. The voice continued. I grinded her teeth together at what Vera was saying. Now, Twilight Sparkle, take my blade, use it on the ones you care about the most, and you will find its true power. Vera’s voice started to fade away. Do not fail me Twilight Sparkle, if you do, there will be consequences… The voice faded from existence. I found myself standing in the middle of the Everfree forest once again… but this time there was something on the ground.
It was a deep crimson sword, the blade looked worn, dull almost. It was as if the sword was calling for me… almost as if it… needed me… I slowly picked up the blade with my levitation magic. I looked at the blade intensely, studying every inch of it. What did she mean that I had ‘use’ it on the ones I care for the most? I asked myself, confused on what she meant by ‘use’ it.
I continued to stare at it; the blade was indeed dull it would need a new blade on it if I was actually going to use it on somepony. Wait?! What did I just think… where did that come from; I’m not going to hurt anypony with this! I was shocked at what I had just thought to myself.
I keep the sword close to me as I begin to walk out of the forest, it was nearly dark so not many ponies will be on the streets, good I don’t want them taking this from me. I came to a halt, why do I not want anypony to take this from me? I ask myself again.
I shake my head back and forth, what’s happening to me…? I wonder to myself, as I continue walking back to Ponyville. I continued to look at the sword, it was almost as if it was making me… different… how is this happening, it’s just a sword, it can’t change me.
I see Ponyville in the distance, good, I’m almost home, I began to trot more hastily towards Ponyville. Once I get home I can look this sword up and study it more… maybe find out what Vera meant when she told me to ‘use’ it on the ones that are close to me… but I always can find alternative ways to study it… I could actually use it and observe what it does…
Where are these thoughts coming from, I ask myself, now worried of what’s happening to me. Is the sword doing this, or are these my own thoughts… they have to be my own, a sword cannot change the way I think at all, it’s just an inanimate object, it has no thought, so therefore it cannot change me…
I reach my library in Ponyville and quickly enter; luckily nopony saw me with this sword. I go up stairs to my room and slid the sword under my bed; hopefully nopony will find it there. I trot back down to the main part of the library and begin to search through book after book for something that mentions this sword… but I find nothing.
Maybe I should just sleep on it, if I do that I can have more time to decide on what I’m going to do with that sword. I trot back to my room and lay down on my bed. I begin to close my eyes, and sleeps welcomes me quickly.
