It was after my wife left me, after the heartache I suffered. I remember my parents telling me they didn't live in their old home in the woods anymore, that they started another life in another location. My head clouded with hate and pain, I packed a few of my things, calling a taxi from the rainy streets of Fillydelphia, and drove all the way to the outskirts, where darkened woods rest in silence. With the little confidence I had, I walked up to my parents' old cabin, unlocked the door, and quickly trotted in. That night I had old noodles that I brought along, that night is when everything started. The continuous pain in my head, the noises out side my home. It felt as if daylight wouldn't show. That was one of the worst nights of my life. And the everlasting feeling of suffering souls linger over me. The house is beginning to produce a deadly haze of fear. Will it never end?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I lay in my bed, covers pulled to my snout, my eyes aimed at the alarm clock relaxing on my stand. Only ten at night. I've been tossing and turn, wasting my time as I repeated turn my head and look at the lingering doorway. The noises.....The noises are bothering me. Not just the small, nocturnal rodents hopping about outside, but the crunching of leaves under hooves, the eerie whistling of the wind as it seeps into my home, the little shaking of the door every few minutes. The worst of all the others is the feeling I get just as soon as I'm about to drift to sleep; the feeling of being watched. No, stalked is a better term. I feel as if I'm being stalked as I lay in my bed at night, listening to the noises, feeling the thud of fear in my skull. It's the worst feeling imaginable.
I kick my blankets off quickly and crawl out of bed. I've grown hot. Sweat drips down my forehead. I rush into the kitchen, turn on the cold water, and splash the water on my face. My hooves now heavily placed on the edges, I stand on my back legs, staring at the water slink down into the drain. Why do I feel like vomiting?
Out of the corner of my eye I catch a glimpse of my old flashlight sitting on the table. Memories of playing in the woods outside when the sun was going down flash in my mind, bringing a smile to my face. I wanted to be male Daring Do when I was younger, but instead, I became a foalsitter. That was when I was still married to my wife. I loved children, I always wanted to have a small, yet kind-hearted family of my own. And when I grew older, and my children had children, I would sit on a park bench watching them gallop about. Yes, as my children grew older, when my wife had passed, they might of forgotten about me, but I would have never forgotten about them. That was, in my perspective, how a family should be. Yet after my wife had fled from my side, I lost the feeling for family. There was no more room in my heart for the love that radiantly shone from a foal's smile, or a nice hug or kiss on the muzzle from your suitor. It was, after all, how I stayed blindly in love with Her.
A noise from outside forces me to return to reality. The flashlight stands in an upright position there on the table, as if it is looking at me, trying to talk to me.
Please, lets go outside. It says.
Please? Just like old times, before this mess ever happened.....
The very thought of seeing what lurks in the dark scares yet excites me at the same time. I give in, just because I couldn't control my feelings as well as I use to. I grab the flashlight, slightly weighing it on my hoof. I mean, it can't be all bad to just have a look around then come back inside, right? Inhaling deeply, I open the front door, turning on the flashlight in panic. Nothing but the grass, dirt, and trees fill the patch of light. A gentle breeze brushes through my coat. I close my eyes to take it in. I forgot how nice it felt out here, I forgot it was okay to enjoy something.
I walk down the path eastward, looking behind once in awhile. Yes, I thought it was beautiful at night, but no, I still don't trust the woods. I never did and never will. SMACK! My skull shakes as I look up at the towering rocks I ran into. I brush myself off and circle them. They were white and slightly tinted with green from moss, and they felt like marble. The nature of it puts a smile on my face. Marble has always been a favorite texture of mine. It wasn't rough like sandpaper, and it didn't make noise like plastic. It was perfect. Suddenly a pain strikes my skull.
"What the!?" My eyes sting and my ears throb. I place my hoof on my head, tumbling to the ground. I quickly look up and see a figure. An eerie stallion in a suit. Who is he? I blink and he's gone.My headache worsens. I pick myself up and rush back toward my cabin.
Who was that? Why did he have....vines growing from his back? Did he even have a face? I ask these questions several times. My headache worsened when I glanced at him. I could hear the noises I heard before in my head, as if a curse was placed upon me. They echoed in my skull. My heartbeat becomes faster, like racing Pegasi. Unfortunately, I am only an Earth Pony. I run to my door. But it's not a door anymore. A cage is tightly concealing it, making sure I don't open it. I shake it. Minaly because I'm not that bright. I step on something. A paper. A note. What is on it scares me. A shiver rushes down my spine and the hair on my neck stands up. Why has Celestia forsaken me like this? The fright is uncontrollable. It's is now flowing with my blood, shaking my hooves. It has a picture of a stallion, a stallion with no face. One distinct word is scribbled on the paper. The one word dries my throat and makes thousands of hairs stand up on my back.
HELP.
