DW: The Arrival of The Doctor.
Part 4: Right-O
Previous Chapter"What in the world was that for?" Carrot Top asked as the Doctor closed the door to the Tardis.
"What? We needed a way in and this was better than just knocking on the front door. On the other hoof too, we skipped a couple of hours so maybe he isn't standing by now." He said. "And don't worry, there is a solid fifteen percent chance he didn't hear us."
"Fifteen?" She asked angrily.
"Hey now thats a lot, with that amount theres a chance we came in undetected." He said trying to act smoothly.
"There's also a eighty five percent chance that he knows that we're here and that he's now waiting for us." She said sarcastically.
He took a look around before taking out the screwdriver. "Lets see where you are."
Carrot Top guessed that they had to be in the basement, for there were shelves with tons of crates. Each one had a item name written on them but to her surprise none where cooking items. Thanks to the inner light of the Tardis she was able to see all around the room. Her eyes fell to a set of stars leading up to the rest of the building.
"We're not in Sugarcube." She said.
"Well of corse not, that would be wasting our time." The Doctor said. "No point of going there, no we're at the Cake's residence."
Carrot Top became alarmed. "Wait this is they're house!"
"Not so loud." He said trying to hush her.
"We can't just go walking into somepony's house." She said very angrily.
"Listen, I for one agree with that statement. However, when that pony's house harbors a dangerous alien that can do god knows what kind of destruction, I think we can wave the rule of politeness just this once. All we're here for is the zygon, just in and out. It will be like nopony was even here." He said trying to calm her down. "Besides the radar showed that he came back here instead of the cake shop so what else was I suppose to do?"
"Its just I don't feel comfortable snooping around somepony's house. Can't we try to lure the thing outside somehow?" She asked.
"I am all ears." He said placing his hoof on the stairs.
Carrot Top paused for a moment, trying to think of a way that they could get the creature away from the rest of the family. Turning around she eyed the Tardis. Then it came to her, almost like a bolt of lighting. Apparently the Doctor also began picking up on her attentions.
"Oh, no." He said.
"It would work." She said.
"Still, letting that thing on the Tardis is already asking for trouble." He said taking a step towards her.
"But it would be a lot safer than just trying to get it in the house or luring it outside. Think, if it got outside then it can sift to anypony. We can trap it here and we know where it would be." She said.
"Even if we did get it on board, have you ever thought about what if it got loose then? The Tardis is infinite. It could literally roam around on my ship for ages. Not to mention put me in danger where I rest my head." He said growing concerned.
"Well it's a better plan than whatever you got." She said.
He paused for a moment. "Okay you got me there, but I still am not on board with this."
"Whats the worse that could happen?" She shrugged.
Instantly his face was within touching distance with her's. "There are many things that could go wrong miss Top. For one a zygon isn't a dumb animal that you can train to do tricks. It is an intelligent being that can easy abuse the abilities of the Tardis. If it got a hold on that technology it could rewrite you're entire history. There would be a complete meltdown of this universe, creating a hellish nightmare that I for one have seen firsthoof." He stopped for a moment. "There it is again I said 'first hoof' instead of….anyway the point I was making was that if we did try to trap it on the Tardis it could go catastrophically for us if it got loose in there." He went back and placed his hoof on the Tardis door. "I've seen what could happen if somepony abuses this power, and I worry about it every night."
Carrot Top felt a little sad that she even brought the idea up. "I am sorry Doctor."
"Don't be." He said. "Cause we're going to trap it in there!"
She jumped at the rise of his voice. "Wait, but you just said that…"
"I know but that just makes the stakes higher then right? If you are wrong and it all goes to ruin then I get to say you did it" He said charging towards the stares. "Come on then, lets go wake the beast from slumber."
Carrot Top stood there for a second, not knowing how to responded to the sudden outburst. "Doctor wait!"
Before she could stop him, he had already flung open the door and was now standing in the Cake's kitchen. He went over to the cabinets and began emptying them out.
"What on earth are you doing?" Carrot Top said while picking up items.
"Creating curiosity." He said.
"But you don't have to make a mess of things." She said.
"No, but it is more fun." He said causing more noise.
Then right as she was about to answer there was a small thud that came from above. She glanced over to the Doctor who was now looking more serious.
"There it is." He said.
"What?" She asked.
"You're eighty five percent." He said with a smile. "Though I would suggest that you come over here by me."
As soon as she made her way toward him a sound of hooves knocking against wood began ringing out. It got closer and closer until a pair of eyes were visible.
"Who's there." Mrs. Cake's voice called out. "I am warning you I'am armed."
The Doctor took out his screwdriver and was about to activate it till Carrot Top stood in front of him.
"Mrs. Cake." She spoke.
"What? Carrot Top is that you?" She asked. "Good heavens what are you doing in my house? In fact how did you get into my house?"
"Top." The Doctor said tugging at her.
She ignored him. "Sorry but this is going to sound weird but I feel that you are in danger."
"Danger? From what?" Her voiced asked.
The screwdriver was lighting up. "Top!" The Doctors voice rose.
"Wait whose there with you and whats that blue light?" Mrs. Cake asked.
Before the Doctor could say something Carrot Top spoke without thinking. "Don't worry its just me and The Doctor."
"The Doctor?" She asked.
Carrot Top nodded. "Yes, now quickly we need to….."
"The Doctor?" She repeated.
The Doctor placed himself in front of her. "I don't think we're talking to Mrs. Cake anymore." He said.
"Doctor." A deep and strange voice said.
Carrot Top jolted at the sudden change. She never heard anything like it, it was deep and yet high pitched. Either way, her body began shivering.
"There was nothing wrong with Mr. Cake at all was there? No trip to the hospital, though he probably did suffer but not because of a fever." The Doctor said. "It tricked us into thinking that we had made a mistake but we were just looking at the wrong pony."
"Wait so it wasn't Mr. Cake?" Carrot Top asked.
"No dear." Mrs. Cakes voiced called out again. "It was me!"
Suddenly, in the light of the screwdriver, a strange looking creature came forth. It's skin was pinkish, mixed with grey though the pink dominated the latter of the two. It had what seemed to be small craters along it's skin, each on prturdgue inwards. The Doctor started to move slowly towards the basement door.
"What are you?" He asked. "You're neither a zygon or this other thing? It's like you a mixture of both but how?"
The creatures face now came into the light as Carrot Top shuffled along with the Doctor. It had nasty little thangs that hanged from its mouth. The eyes were sharp green while resting on a layer of black. There also was an insect quality to them.
"I am what you made me, Doctor." It spoke.
Carrot Top reached the door as the Doctor stopped in place. She glanced at him and saw that the look on his face was pure shock.
"I what?" The Doctor asked.
The creature started to laugh malcisoly.
"Tell me." The Doctor said.
The creature said nothing.
"TELL ME!" The Doctor snapped.
"I can't." It replied.
"Why not?" The Doctor said as Carrot Top opened the door.
"Because we can't remember our past just like how we don't know the future." It said.
"Doctor!" Carrot Top sad.
"Right." He said pushing her into the darkness of the basement. As the creature leaped forward, The Doctor quickly slip behind the door slamming it shut. "Listen, get in the Tardis and go to the right. There should be some stairs, head down there about half way. I am going to lure the creature as close to the control panel as possible. If I can pull this off I can capture it without doing any harm to it. Promise me though, that if anything goes wrongs that you'll exit the Tardis immedialty. Then forget everything that you have seen, everything to do with me. Got it?" He said pointing his screwdriver at the lock on the door. "There, that should by me some time."
"Yes Doctor." She said. "But I know its not going to have to come down to that."
He smiled tiredly. "Lets hope so, now go!"
She did as she was told, and quickly ran towards the Tardis. Once the door was open the Doctor began running right after her. Instantly, she ducked inside and began climbing down the set of stairs. The Doctor came charging in and began messing with the control panel. She watched as he frantically pulled out a wire with his teeth and placed it on the ground a little ways behind him.
"Okay, lets see what you can do then." He said turning his back to the door.
Carrot Top notice the front door of the Tardis was left wide open. She was about to say something but the creature poked it's head in. It was a weird shaped head, smooth at first but then it curved like a pickle. Now that it was in the light it was even more grotesque. It had a smilier body to a changeling though there wasn't any holes in its hooves. There also were insect like wings present on the beast, who had now gotten closer to the Doctor. It's skin though was the strange part, it was a mixture of reddish, pinkish, then swirled with grey.
"So, this is you huh? A mixture of two different species but how? How did you get you're DNA mixed with another creature on this planet?" The Doctor said obviously trying to buy time for whatever he was planning.
The create laughed. "I….don't…..remember." It gargled.
"Well you have to remember something, not like you just appeared out of thin air." He said flipping a switch.
"I…..don't…..though…..this is a……Tardis." It said looking around.
The Doctor stepped back. "Yes and guess what? You're trapped here!" He said while spinning around.
He pulled a lever that sent sparks flying everywhere, followed by an awful noise. The creature tried to leap forward but was being held by some invisible force. It clawed desperately, but all efforts proved to be of no use. The Doctor let out a laugh.
"It work! It actually work! Miss Top its okay now, you can come out. This ugly thing isn't going anywhere." He said inviting her over.
She slowly made her way towards him, making sure to avoid getting near the creature. It tried leaping at her but once again it failed to move an inch. The Doctor got close to it, studying it's structure.
"Just look at it." He said.
The creature collapse to the floor. "What…did you…do?" It spat.
"Nothing really, just used the Tardis's shield system as a cage. I could take the time to explain all the kinks and stuff but I'll just simplify it for you. I took the shield energy from the Tarids and made it into a box to trap you inside. There, now isn't that clever or what?" He asked Carrot Top.
She smiled. "I am just glad we got this thing before it could hurt anypony. Though there is one more question." She said turning to the monster. "Where is Mrs. Cake?"
The creature made no response.
"Answer the nice question dear zygon." The Doctor said.
It still gave no response, much to the frustration of both of them.
"I'll give you to the count of four, then things are going to get heated." The Doctor said. "One."
"The structure…." It said.
"Two." The Doctor said timidly.
"The structure where……." It tried saying quickly.
"Three." The Doctor said walking towards the control panel.
"The structure where the lifeforms conduct business." It said whimpering.
"The cake shop?" The Doctor asked.
"Yes…..in the place……where they keep their supplies." It said
It started to breath heavily, and then it began screaming in agony. The Doctor pulled his screwdriver out and examined the creature. A troubled look came over his face.
"No, no, no, no." He said trying to find something on the control panel.
"What? Whats happening?" She asked.
"I don't know how, but somehow all the cells are collapsing at one. Literally, they are dissolving into a mass of nothing." He said.
Carrot Top tried connecting the dots. "It's dying?"
He looked at her. "Yes!"
"Well can't you do something? What if it's lying about the location?" She asked growing worried.
"I……swear its the truth Doctor." It said.
The Doctor stopped what he was doing and went over to the beast. "Tell me! Where did you come from? How did you come to be? Did you follow me into this universe? Tell me!"
"I……..was……..memories…..will burn." It mumbled.
A strange glow began taking over the creature.
"What will burn what?" The Doctor asked.
It stood up very quickly. "Your memories will burn this universe." It said clearly and with a dark tone.
The Doctor froze.
"Doctor!" Carrot Top exclaimed as the creature's glow began growing brighter.
With an instant the creature was now gone, out of sight and out of reality. The Doctor just stood there, not saying a single word. Carrot Top turned to him and saw the confusion on his face.
"Doctor? What happen to it?" She asked.
He just kept silent.
"Doctor?" She asked nudging him.
"I don't know." He finally said. "I really don't know."
"Doctor I hate to sound bothersome but Mrs. Cake." She said.
He looked at her, snapping back into his old self. "Right." He said heading to the control panel.
With a flick of the switch the place began to rumble again. As it went on he took the wire back up and reopened the panel. After some moments, he had place the wire back inside. When they came to a stop he galloped out of the Tardis. Carrot Top trotted after him. He pulled back some crates and then out of frustration he began opening supply boxes. Carrot Top also followed the corse of action on the opposite side of the room. "Gotcha." His voice rang. Then, much to her relief he was cradling Mrs. Cakes. She was covered in some sort of green slime substance, though it was falling off rapidly.
"She's weak, but I want to get her home as soon as possible." He said caring her into the Tardis. "Come miss Top."
He quickly transported them back to the Cake's residents and took Mrs. Cake to the couch in the living room. Before leaving he scanned her her with his screwdriver and apparently he was relieved from what he saw. Quietly the two got back into the Tardis.
"So, her shot term memory has been wiped by the beast. Though I wish it wasn't so, I cannot not argue with the results." He said.
Carrot Top paused. "So she won't remember anything that happen between her and the zygon?"
"Yes." He answered. "Though I wouldn't call that thing a zygon for sure. That's getting ahead of myself, theres one more thing to address."
"That is?" Carrot Top asked.
"Taking you home." He said.
"Wait? What?" She asked angrily.
"What, I was going to say thank you for helping me and all. I mean I don't think its smart to get inside a strange box, with a madpony. I told you that from the begging. Besides, I am sure you have other things going on in your life and I have work to do." He started to go on before being cut off.
"Listen her buddy. I don't care if you're a doctor, professor, or just plain mad. Tonight you showed me something that I'll never fully understand and I don't want to probably. You crashed into my garden and then asked me to come along to help you find a monster that I never heard about. Then after succeeding you just go and drop me off and be on your merry way?" She asked getting in his face.
"That was the plan." He said.
She steamed. "No sir, you owe me. My time has been wasted if all you were going to do was drop me off and then just leave."
He chuckled. "Well time is irrelev-."
"Stop that." She said. "Now, you said that this can travel anywhere? Show me then. Show me that this thing can travel the stars like you said. Show me it can fly into the sky."
The Doctor was at a loss of words. "Are you sure." She nodded her head. "Okay then."
He flipped a switch and after a short rumble, he went to the door. Peaking it open, he motioned for her to come over. She eventually poked her head out of the door and the sight almost made her mouth hang open. There before her laid all the star and planets of the galaxy. All the classes she went through talked about such things but never had she ever thought of seeing it like this. Each star burned brightly, while the colors of lights danced all around the vast majority of space. In the distance she could see small spheres that were distinct in color and size. Some she recognized from her old books, some though were strange and alienated. She was taken away at this. Suddenly, a great flaming sphere whirled past the Tardis, travailing in a single direction. The sudden movement almost made her fall right out of the ship and into the void of space. Luckily, she was pulled back by the Doctor.
"Convinced now?" He asked.
"Where are we?" She asked.
"The riz galaxy." He answered. "It's the one galaxy in your universe where all the planets and stars are so close that you can see them all if you stand right." He pointed to a small, pale looking sphere. "See that?"
"Yeah." She said. "Though barely, its so small."
"Thats where you lot live." He smiled. "On that tiny little rock of a planet. Though it is cozy."
"Thats my home?" She asked.
"Yeah, strange isn't it? We think of ourselves as big important beings. In reality though we are all just so tiny." He said.
"Thats kind of scary." She said.
"Well like I said we are all tiny." He said.
"But you can see it all right? I mean you can go here and there in a split second. Everything can be observed just by flipping a switch, how do you handle it? Seeing all this and just stay so calm about? I never thought of seeing something like this." She said.
He looked onward "Was this what you wanted to see?"
"More than I could ever dream of." She said. "Is there more out there, like this I mean."
"More than anything you could comprehend." He smiled.
"I want to see it, all of it." She said.
He stepped back for a second. "So you want to see everything huh?" He asked.
"Yes." She said turning around to him. "I want to see all those other places down there, out there."
"The Tardis also travels through time, remember." He said.
"Then I'll will want to see that too then." She said with a smile.
"You'll won't be abel to return to a plain life you once had. Once you traveled through the universe, everyday life gets really boring." He warned.
"I'll just have to enjoy the memories then." She said.
"All right then Mrs. Top. If you're so willing to travel through space and time then you'll choose where to go first. Anywhere and anyplace is a just a blink away. An adventure hiding behind every corner. Though it will be dangerous." He said.
"I am ready for anything." She said.
"Right-O." He said closing the door. "Where to Mrs. Top?"
She pondered for a moment. "Lets start somewhere simple, lets go to the moon."
"Ah excellent, a great big ball of rock instead of ancient times." He said sarcastically.
"I said start somewhere simple then work up to the big things." She said.
He laughed. "Oh but there is no such thing as simple when you travel with me. I do thrown in an occasional twist here and there, just to keep you on your hooves." With a bound he leaped to the control panel and began messing with buttons. "Ready?"
"Ready." She said.
"Here we go." He said.
With that the Tardis roared and was off.
"So time will turn for now, but soon it will all burn."
