Chapter 1: A cold night and an unwanted meetup
Miles sat by the bar, looking around suspiciously with a bottle of Applejack Daniel's whiskey in hand. His red mane was messy as usual, he wore a simple black jacket with black cargo pants, his wings hung behind him. Mares would walk by and give him a once over, he may be over a thousand years old but his body was always a solid thirty five years old. Berry Punch looked at him as he scanned her tavern
"You know, just because you look like a patron, doesn't mean you don't look suspicious sweetie" she chuckled. He glared at her a bit and shook his head
"I know, I just want to make sure my target isn't too far off. I'll try to keep the fight outside but if he makes a b line for the exit, I'm going to take him down here" he said as he took another swig of whiskey. Berry laughed a bit and nodded
"Just keep the blood shed as minimal as possible sweetie, I can't afford buying new mops every week" Miles nodded as if he actually cared for her remark. He saw the target make his way outside slowly, Miles got up and placed bits on the counter only to have them tossed back at him
"Damn it Miles, I keep telling you that you don't have to pay for your drinks!" He smiled a bit and nodded as he left her tavern into the cold night, he saw his target begin to walk down the road, heading south. He smirked and took off his jacket, his chest was covered with tightly fitted armor and took out his broadsword from a nearby trash can, he started going from cover to cover, keeping a good distance from his target.
Miles saw that the road was about to end and lead toward the Everfree forest, he stepped out of cover and called out the target, "By royal order, you are under arrest, surrender yourself now or I will use force!"
The target turned around and was surprised that he was tailed, he turned around but before he could make a run for it, Miles was in the air and charging at him. Miles slammed into his back and landed on him hard, the target coughed up blood and begged for mercy, "Be glad I am feeling merciful tonight you scum, with your record, I'd have half the mind to kill you myself."
Miles tied the target's arms behind him and lifted him off the ground till he was standing on his own, "Now I'm taking you before Princess Celestia, one bad decision and I'll advance your execution!"
He started walking his target back into town when an arrow zoomed by his head, he quickly turned but only saw a pink blur pass from one rooftop to the other, arrows striking down at him. He pushed the target into a dumpster and shut it, "Wait in there till I finish with this!"
He once again wielded his broadsword and looked around, trying to spot this assassin, "Come out ya coward, you know damn well I ain't gonna just let you live after taking pot shots at me!"
He threatened the shadows and the assassin in the shadows acknowledged his threats by stepping into the street. The assassin was a pegasi mare, she was of dark pink body with a teal and hot pink mane, she was around twenty five if Miles had to guess.
"Hello, my name is Auttawhishy and you have my bounty so let's do this...I let you live, you surrender the bounty to me. Seems fair huh?" She sported a cocky grin and Miles growled lowly at her
"What was that pink bitch? You really want to tussle with me? Do you even know who I am?" Her grin grew and she nodded
"If you knew, you'd just walk away so I will ask again, do you really want to tussle because I will gladly kill another assassin. I've killed many of your kind and I will keep doing so, you ain't any different from those I already killed toots!" he snapped at her.
She drew two short hidden blades from her wrists, her robes didn't allow for much speculation if she was armed or not but seeing as she already fired arrows at him, Miles assumed she had more tricks tucked away. With a frustrated grunt, Miles charged at her, she smirked and dodged him easily with some fancy footwork. Miles turned and threw a hatchet he had in his armor but Autta caught it and sent it back, Miles dodged it and swung his sword at her waist. She ducked and tried to jab her blade under his chest plate only to find a foot coming to meet her face, she caught his foot but his strength is what stunned her. His kick sent Autta flying into a shed, she broke into it and barely landed on her feet.
"Hehe, looks like you definitely don't know me foolish mare!" No response came from inside, he was about to go in when he caught a glimpse of a figure running away.
"Smart move assassin..." he said as he opened the dumpster and took his target out, he spread his wings and began to fly towards Canterlot Castle. Celestia would be waiting to see the target, she wanted to get his ruling out of the way as soon as possible to have his execution in the morning seeing that the target was a serial arsonist and had already burned down three hospitals with patients still inside. Miles landed by the gates of the castle and was let in by his troops, they saluted him and told him Celestia already had a guest but she still wanted the target to be brought to her. Miles was just glad he didn't have to babysit the target anymore, he hated snatch and grab missions with a passion, he would have gladly gutted the stallion and called it a day but Celestia hated when he didn't even try to keep his targets alive.
He took the target up the stairs and into the grand hall before reaching the Throne room doors, he turned to the target and smirked, "Get ready to be punished low life, Celestia has been on my ass about catching you for the past week."
He pushed open the doors and practically dragged the target in as the target now refused to walk but Miles could have easily flung the target inside if he felt like it. Miles had his back to the throne as he dragged the target in, once he assumed he was close enough, he turned around only to be shocked and pissed off by whom awaited him along with the princess. "Hello Miles, I see you brought my bounty in for me!" giggled Autta as did Celestia, Miles looked puzzled as Autta took the target from him and placed the target on his knees before Celestia.
"Ember, for your crimes of arson, murder, and terrorism; I condemn thy to death immediately" said Celestia coldly, Miles only nodded as he recognized Celestia's dark side. What surprised him came as he looked at Auttawhishy, she had her blade out and she jammed it into the back of the target's skull.
The body dropped as Miles exclaimed "What the hell!?! He was to be executed tomorrow! Why did that bitch even come here!? Explain yourself Celesita!"
Autta was rather surprised by how Miles talked and responded to Celestia but even more so by how his words didn't seem to affect the princess in the slightest. "He was a dangerous colt Miles, I had Auttawhishy follow him once you found his trail. I didn't think you would mind back up" she said with a smile but Miles looked at her with scorn
"I work alone! I also would never work with an assassin! Why didn't you inform me of this!? Do you now trust how I operate my missions?!" He didn't like it when she brought up his lack of morality or his unnecessary need of killing targets rather than bringing them back alive
"She was just to observe that you brought him here, she asked that she got to kill the target once I assigned his punishment. I am sorry for not advising you but I don't believe I have to" she said with a rather angered tone but she jumped quickly as Miles glared at her
"You want me to do your damn dirty work, you do as I say" he responded coldly at her before turning his attention to the now alert Auttawhishy ,"You better leave before you join him, bitch"
Auttawhishy looked concerned for her life for a second before she started to giggle. "Really Miles? The big, bad General of the guard is going to get me? I could have killed you when I wanted to, many times over!" Miles shook his head and started to walk away when Autta began to speak again, "Oh wait, you are an immortal huh? Looks like Luna got the last laugh in the end! She made you into Equestria's personal janitor, picking up and getting rid of the waste of Equestria. Bet your family would be proud-"
Before Auttawhishy could continue her rant, Celestia placed her hand over her mouth, "Shhh! You will set him off if you insult his family"
Miles turned around and grinded his teeth, "Be gald Celestia is here or I would have gutted you already!!!" With that, Miles left Canterlot castle and headed back to Berry's tavern to drink his life away as he tried to not think of the cocky assassin and the annoyance of Celestia's choices. Berry spotted him in his mood and offered him a bottle of USEL (United Soviet Equoite Lands) vodka, he took it from her forcefully but paused to thank her before popping it open and drinking some. It burned a bit but it was a good burn, he slowly felt his anger leave him as his mind begin to wander till a mare sat next to him, she was wearing a plain black t-shirt and jean shorts, she smiled at him and took the bottle from him
"I see you know my friend Berry Punch" she said as Berry responded with a smile
"Hey Auttawhishy! Long time, no see!" Miles sighed heavily, he got up and made his way to the door as he made a mental note that he had officially lost his old watering hole to an unwanted, two bit assassin.
Chapter 2: Stories of old, stories of pain
Miles made his way out of the tavern as Autta looked on with a smirk of victory on her face, it disappeared as Berry looked at her with a displeased face, "What did you do to him?"
"I did nothing to the old fart! I just did as instructed by the princess and teased him a bit, the guy is cold as ice, he'll be fine." Berry closed her eyes and shook her head
"I know Miles very well, you fucked up in some way to have him leave, what did you tease him about?"
Autta thought back to the events that occurred not too long ago at Canterlot castle, "Well...I made fun of his immortality...his demeanor...and a bit about his family..."
She paused and looked at Berry, waiting for a gasp to come from her to signal where she messed up but Berry glared at her friend with disbelief. "Do you have a death wish or something!?! You single handedly hit all his peeves in one go! He is sensitive about what his is now and his past, he had and still has a hard life...of all the ponies in Equestria, you'd know his feelings"
Auttawhishy thought for a bit and nodded with a bit of regret, "I suppose you do have a point but...how is it that we are relatable?"
Berry thought for a bit and snapped her fingers as she pointed to her worker, he came to where she was she Berry took Autta upstairs to her home.
"Yo Berry, why are we going to your place? You could have told me at the bar" said Autta as she was ushered inside by Berry.
"This kind of information has been surpressed and hidden for a long time, no other pony needs to know about it...except for you of course"
Autta braced for Berry's incoming history lesson, it surprised her that Berry could even think with how much alcohol she usually drank but then again, this was Berry Punch, drinking legend of Equestria.
"Okay, after this, you better go apologize to him, he is a dear friend of mine and my family...plus I...I kind of...like him" her face became flushed and Autta couldn't help but laugh a bit at her friend's sudden confession.
"Yeah, yeah, now give me the sob story so I can get your future boyfriend back." Berry looked at her angrily for a bit before brushing her comment to the side and started.
"Okay, it all took place during the civil war that broke out during Celestia's and Luna's fight for power."
"Wait a sec, there was a civil war?! Where was I in all this!?" exclaimed Autta only to be shushed by Berry
"No questions till the end! Anyways...where was I? Oh yes! The civil war is less known due to record destruction and secrecy by Princess Celestia. The civil war was a six year war between Luna's Midnight Military and Celesita's Celestian Army, Miles was and technically still is General of the Celestian Army. He led his troops into skirmishes and great battles against the Midnights, the beginning of the war was a major struggle since most of Equestria seemed to side with Luna since Celestia lost Canterlot castle rather quickly in an ambush by the Midnights. Miles lost his parents there as they protected Celestia till she was able to escape, Miles was also majorly wounded by the Midnight's General, Nec Assis, the adopted son of Princess Luna."
"Wait! Princess Luna has a son!? I never heard of him!" Berry sighed as she was once again cut off by Autta's outbursts
"He is reintergraiting into normal society at the moment so he isn't known yet to the public...as I said...he was majorly injured but a medic and her squad snuck in and took him away, saving his life. The medic was Mari Rica, she was quite bold for a field medic and was recognized for her valiant rescue, she also gained the love of Miles. They married six months later, she stayed in his hometown as he went to fight, she was with filly. Near the end of the Civil War, Miles had the Midnights on the ropes but they became desperate...He launched a massive assault on their main base where Luna was, he managed to keep her inside as his army wiped out most of her troops within the hour of arrival. He went in and battled with her till she was badly injured only to be saved by a lone guard but not before Luna stabbed him with her horn as she preformed an olden curse, a curse of life. What Miles didn't know was that right after the fall of the main base, the Midnights became too desperate. As Mari was bathing her filly, Sargenta, the Midnight Military sent a battalion and attacked the town..." Berry teared up "They had the gull to hang Mari and Sargenta from the rooftop and slice their stomachs open and fill his home with the bodies of the dead townspeople...he came home to this and went mad..."
Autta kept silent, she was transfixed on the story Berry was telling her, she was already feeling terrible for picking on him
"He became drunk on blood lust, he was merciless to all who laid in the path of his blade which cost him his life for a hundred years. Celestia tried to have him killed for his actions but she soon found out he was immortal, nothing could kill him and she placed a high bounty on his head just to see if somepony could finally end him but nopony ever could. He doesn't like being immortal, he wishes for death all the time but right as he is about to get it...it's gone"
Autta looked down and cried a bit, she was ashamed that she acted the way she did to him for he could understand her even better than Berry could. "Berry...tell me where he lives...I...I need to speak to him...please..."
Berry nodded and told her to go into the Everfree and keep going till she reached a clearing, that is where he lived. Autta got up and thanked her friend before leaving, determined to right her wrongs and to see if she could actually make some sort of connection with the old fool.
Autta left the tavern, fighting a bit against a group of drunks who kept trying to get her to drink with them. After slamming a few heads on the bar table, she left and began to head down the road into the Everfree.
"So...he does know a pain like mine? I...I really do hope I can at least befriend him...for Berry's sake" she said as she reached the edge of the forest. She looked around and found it odd that a stallion would even consider living in one of the most inhospitable places in Equestria but taking into consideration that he was an immortal, it didn't have to matter to him.
She began to walk into the forest, scanning for a clearing to signal she was close but she kept walking for half an hour finding nothing but more forest.
"Damn it, don't tell me I'm lost..." she said as she looked around, she decided to stop walking and turn around to leave when she heard the noise of glass breaking.
"What was that? ...I must be close..." she saw a dense tree line form in front of her and she walked through it to find herself in a large clearing inside the forest. She was shocked by what she found in the center of it, there stood a large castle like structure but it looked completely untouched by time. No damages of ruins, no sign of attacks to it; just a large structure that looked as if it were old as Canterlot castle itself.
"What the hell are you doing here!?" came the voice of Miles from a window atop the large wooden and metal doors.
"Miles...I want to talk...please I made a mistake" she said as she tried to reason with him to have her conscious cleared.
"What makes you think I want to hear your crap!?!" he snapped at her, his words a bit slurred. Autta chuckled a bit as she now knew she had him. She took a bottle out of her bag and perked her breasts up before looking at him with a sultry smile.
"Come on big boy, don't leave a sexy mare out in the cold when we can be inside...keeping each other warm" Miles couldn't help but blush at her remark and shook his head.
"You are a cruel mare! Using two of my weaknesses at once!" with that he left the window and the doors began to open, Autta walked toward the opening doors to find Miles waiting behind them, sword in hand.
"I still don't trust you..." he said as he pointed the tip at her neck, she smiled and walked past him
"Same here, I don't just go into any stallion's home with the intention of being alone with him...alcohol in our system...together in their room..." she said as she swayed her hips a bit, catching Miles attention. He let out a sigh and closed the large doors, he walked past her and lead her to his living room.
"So tell me Miles, how can you afford such a place magnificent as this?" she asked
"Over a thousand years of keeping Equestria safe, you tend to get paid rather well. I used to live here when it was first constructed, it was the Wonderbolt's HQ, back when the Wonderbolts were a special force, not just fancy fliers. It was abandoned during the war and was unkept for a hundred years till I came along and had is restored. I bought it and have used it as my home ever since then."
He sat down on a chair and offered her one as well, she sat down and placed the bottle between them.
"I wanted to apologize for what I said before...I shouldn't of said such things to you" she said with a sorry tone, Miles nodded and scratched his forehead
"You are forgiven, you don't know my past so I don't expect you to-"
"I do know your past! Berry told me once you left the tavern and she left out nothing...I'm really sorry for it all, your story is quite depressing" she looked at him as he shot an annoyed glare at her.
"Is that all I am? A story!" he stood and pointed to the doors "Leave at once! I've had enough of people giving me their pity! Get out now!" he started to walk away when Auttawhishy grabbed his arm, he tried to brush her off with his wing but she blocked with her own wing
"Please Miles, hear me out! I...I do know your pain...really well"
"How could you!?! My parents were killed protecting a false God, my wife and child were murdered for loving me, and I roam this world a husk of who I was with no end in sight. You know nothing of my pain!!!" he pushed her off and stormed into his bedroom and slammed the door. Autta got close to the door and heard a faint sob before silence.
"I was found a baby in a mountain village over a thousand years ago, nopony knew whom my parents were or where I came from...I was an outsider to all who lived there but even so, they cared for me. As I grew, a stallion taught me the art of assassinations, his name was Ishmael" she got up and went to the living room to grab the bottle of whiskey and sat back down by the door before drinking a bit of it
"I fell in love with him and he fell in love with me...we were engaged and everything was great...till the White Fang appeared. A rival clan of Ishmael's, they attacked and killed everypony, Ishmael and I narrowly escaped but..." she began to cry as she continued her story. "I couldn't save him...they got him Miles...they got my true love..." she took a large drink of the bottle before having it taken away, she turned to see Miles with his door open and drinking some of the whiskey, he motioned for her to enter.
"For so long I became cold to everypony until recently, I became friends with Berry Punch and she became a way to vent my troubles... I also had an apprentice for a few years. He fell in love with me but...all I saw was Ishmael, he tried to kill me when I refused his love and he ran off." She took the bottle from him and drank more, the alcohol was starting to get to her, she felt a bit numb and leaned against him.
Miles looked down at her and took two glasses out from a drawer, he poured themselves a drink and raised his, "To Ishmael"
Autta took her glass and smiled, she raised it and looked at Miles "To Mari" she drank the whiskey down and shed a tear and was surprised to find Miles wiping it away. She sat on his lap perpendicularly and put her arms around his neck, burying her face into his chest.
"Just...for a night...be my Ishmael" she said, Miles could feel her tears dampen his coat. He smiled a bit and ran his fingers through her mane
"I can't be him but...I'll keep ya company all the same" he wrapped his arms around her waste and held her, her body heat and presence was comforting to him. He closed his eyes and thought back to the last time he acted like this and could only think of his time with Mari.
Chapter 3: Please don't tempt me
Auttawhishy looked at Miles and pulled his head down, she planted a kiss on his cheek as his face tinged pink. She looked into his eyes and smiled
"So Miles, what exactly were those two weaknesses you mentioned earlier, hmm?" she smirked as she pressed her chest into his arm earning a brighter blush from him.
"Whiskey and Berry" he stated quickly, Autta looked at him a bit confused
"Really? Whiskey and Berry Punch? You have a mare on your lap and all you can think about is alcohol and a bartender?!" she felt a bit insulted that her advances didn't phase him as much as she thought they would. He chuckled a bit at her pouting
"You asked thus I responded, would your rather have me tell you that it was your breasts that convinced me to let you in?" he said teasingly, giving her a light squeeze of her waist. She slowly smiled and nodded
"Maybe not like that but something along those lines would have been nice...kinda hard to think one is still attractive after so long..." she said as she nuzzled his neck, Miles turned his head to hide the fact he was enjoying her drunken affection. Autta caught on and decided it would be fun to tease him. She got off his lap and pushed him onto the bed, giving him the best bedroom eyes she could.
"Seeing anypony at the moment Miles? Are you...fair game?" she said as she got on top of him, straddling him. She sat on his crotch and slowly grinded against him. Miles tried to respond but only a low moan came out of his lips, he wanted to do more but he knew it was the alcohol controlling her actions.
"Hey Autta, how about you get off me and not do this while you are drunk okay? I don't want you waking up and regretting anything..." he tried gently nudging her off but she kept a good grip on him. "Really, get off...I...I'm not in the mood..." he lied through his teeth but he really didn't want any sort of relationship to commence by her waking up hung over and in his bed with a fuzzy memory of the night before.
"Come on Miles, show me what kind of stallion you are" she smirked and began tugging on his shirt, he lightly swatted her hands away but it only seemed to rev her up more. "Playing hard to get I see...I like a challenge" she lifted her shirt, exposing her breasts held nicely in her black lace bra, "Like what you see?" She knew she had him as his cheeks burned a bit red and his growing bulge below her
"Wait a sec, think about what you are doing! We just met and we are both clearly tipsy-" she put the bottle in his mouth and made him drink a large amount of the amber liquid
"You need to lighten up a bit and take me Ishmael, don't keep me waiting!' Miles looked at her and frowned, he knew she was playing out a fantasy in her drunken haze. He finally used his strength and took her off him and laid her on the bed, he gave her a bit more of whiskey and turned out the light before leaving the room. "Hey...don't leave me again...please...don't leave me..." she started to yawn and tear up. She laid her head on the pillow by her and cried a bit before sleep took hold of her.
Miles walked to the kitchen and poured himself a glass of water, "Well...I turned down sex with a beautiful mare...it was the right thing...right?" he drank the water in an attempt to sober up soon. He sat at the kitchen table and thought over what Autta told him about her past. "She really does understand me a bit more than I thought...guess I can thank Berry for this one. What now? Do I just wait till she gets up and kick her out or am I supposed to sympathize with her or do I just shut my yap and accept free sex next time?" he chuckled a bit before pouring a new glass of water and taking it to his room.
As he walked in, he heard her gentle breathing as she slept, he was glad she finally was out of his hair but he did lose his bed for the night. He placed the glass of water on a small table by his bed and looked at Autta for a bit. "She does kind of remind me of Mari...clever, a flirt, cute...why am I even saying this? She is still new to me but...I wouldn't mind getting to know her a bit more" He left the room and went to the living room, he laid on the couch and looked at the ceiling for a bit
"This may be the first night I don't sleep with the mare in my bed...hehe, what a shame" he smiled and began to remember just how she grinded against him and how her breasts fought against her bra to be freed, the thoughts did nothing to help with his growing bulge. "A real shame...being a gentlecolt sucks..." and with that he nodded of to sleep.
He awoke as the sun shined in through the window of the living room and hit his eyes, he cursed the dawn and rolled off the couch. He stood and stretched as the couch did a number on his back, after a few pops of his spine, he went to the kitchen and thought up what to make for breakfast. He was thinking of just going out once his laziness hit him but he remembered that he wasn't alone in his home. "Maybe I should make breakfast...as a gesture of good will" he liked the idea and started taking out supplies to make some pancakes and eggs with coffee to cure the hangover Autta was bound to have. After finishing he served up her food on a platter and made his way to his room.
"Hey Auttawhishy...this may sound weird but I made you break-" he stopped himself once he saw she wasn't in his bed and it was folded neatly. He thought she must have left earlier and didn't want to bother him, he sighed that he slaved over a hot stove for nothing and set the platter on the table near his bed anyways. When he turned around he was stopped in his tracks by what he saw, Autta was walking in with only a towel on her head, his face burned red and he was speechless. Her body was more amazing that he imagined, well toned, perky breasts, curvy hips, and flank a stallion would kill to touch.
"Morning Miles, hey! You made breakfast! Thank you!" she smiled and hugged him before sitting on his bed. Miles looked at her for a bit more before quickly leaving, she looked at his direction a bit confused by how he reacted till it dawned on her that she was naked. "Oh my! I forgot that this isn't my house!" she grabbed her clothes and started to get dressed quickly, she didn't want to send the wrong message to him. She took her platter of food and walked into the kitchen where she saw him eating quietly, cheeks still red. "Um...I didn't mean...to...you know. I sorta forgot I was in your home and not mine...hope I didn't rile you too much..."
"I understand...I thought you'd be in bed, nursing a hangover...it's okay...nothing I haven't encountered before" he said, trying to play it cool but his blush was a dead give away. He saw a smirk creep up her face and she started eating with him, she was amazed to know he could cook
"Wow! I never thought you would be decent in the kitchen Miles" she said as she ate more
He smiled a bit proudly, "Well, you do have to learn to cook at some point in life unless you want to starve, I've had plenty of time to learn..." his smile shrank and he just went back to eating. Autta could sense he was a bit troubled and tried to recall if it was something she said last night but she couldn't remember much
"Hey Miles...did I...say something weird last night?" she asked, he stopped and thought for a bit before shaking his head slowly
"Nothing I haven't said myself at one point or another, don't worry yourself" he finished his meal and took the plates to the sink. Once Autta finished, she brought them to the sink to do them herself but Miles took them from her and began to wash them. She smiled a bit and hugged him from behind, surprising Miles
"Thank you for listening and taking care of me last night...I may have been a handful but you were real sweet..." she let go of him and he smiled as he put the dishes away.
"No problem Auttawhishy" he was about to say something when they heard a loud soaring sound outside. "Who could that be?"
Chapter 4: An old wound, reopened
"Were you expecting any company today?" asked Auttawhishy as she peered out a window, looking for a sign of a Pegasus or some creature flying around.
"No...I can't say I am" Miles responded, a knock was heard coming from the front door "Well, it can't be a creature, they had the courtesy to knock" he made his way to the doors and opened them slowly as to make sure if the pony in question was friendly or not. On the other side stood a Pegasus mare, she wore a flight suit with lighting bolts designed on it, her mane looked as if her head was set ablaze as did her tail.
"Good morning sir, Princess Celestia has asked for your presence as soon as possible...wait...is that Ms.Auttawhishy?" she said a bit confused. Autta stepped out and nodded, "The Princess has also asked for your presence...I apologize if I interrupted anything...again" she gave Miles a quick wink before taking to the skies again and zooming back to Cloudsdale.
Miles turned to Autta, "Well, let's go see what old sun butt wants to lecture me about today" he joked as he went back to the kitchen, Autta was about to ask what he ment by sun butt when it dawned on her, she laughed a bit.
"Are you two that close or do you honestly not care that she is ruler of Equestria and your boss?" she asked, Miles left the kitchen and went down a hall, once he returned wearing armor and sheathed his sword, he smiled
"A bit of both...mainly the second one. After so long, you tend to not care about who is socially above you or below you, they are all just ponies doing their nine to five and surviving" he adjusted his armor and put on his helmet, "Let's get going before she throws a fit" he snickered, he turned and was surprised Autta already had her assassin's suit on "When the hell did this happen?!"
She giggled and started to fly out the door, "I'll tell you later, let's get going!" he shrugged it off and followed after her. The fly to Canterlot castle was a quiet one, not that either minded but they wanted to ask each other more things to figure out what they were exactly. They landed by the gates and were led inside the Throne room before being left alone with Princess Celestia.
"Good morning you two, I hope I didn't disrupt anything again Miles" she teased him and smiled
"Good morning Princess" Autta said with a bow and a smile, a red tinged her cheeks
"No you didn't...nothing happened so stop picturing it and tell us what you need done" Miles said, a bit annoyed by the joke
"My, my, it sure doesn't sound like anything but in all seriousness, let's get back at the matter at hand. Autta, you have served me well as my spy and assassin for a while now, you even eluded my General for quite a while. Miles, you are by far the strongest and fastest soldier I have ever met, your skill and determination are unquestionable but...I have been thinking..." she paused as she glanced as the two. Miles looked at her, expecting to be lectured again for some issue she had about his attitude. Autta looked at the ground, wondering if the Princess was going to end her contract with her. "I want you two to become partners and handle the secret ops I need done."
"What? I already do that! I don't need a partner! No offense Auttawhishy but I work alone and that's it" he said sternly as he crossed his arms. Autta was about to say something but out of respect for the princess, she kept quiet.
"I know Miles and you do get the job done but...you leave a big mess for me to clean up. I can't keep making excuses for why a building is destroyed or why bodies are found in the streets, savagely mutilated. Autta is an expert at stealth and quick, clean kills so she will assist you on doing so and that is that Miles" she said. Miles was about to argue back but decided against it, she seemed firm about this and looked at Autta.
"Fine...she can tag along...but if she dies like the others, it will be on your head, not mine" he turned around and left the Throne room. Auttawhishy approached the princess.
"Your highness, what did he mean by 'the others'?" she asked
"Miles has worked along side many strong and brave ponies Autta but...some missions are just impossible to survive and he is an immortal thus he comes back. He is just tired of losing anypony while he is with them which is why I want you with him. You have an unnatural talent that will keep you both alive through a lot as well as...he needs a friend to vent to. He has a lot on his mind and I'm afraid only more is going to fill his mind soon."
Autta understood the princess' intentions and nodded, "Okay, I'll do my best your highness...quick question...what exactly is going to fill his mind soon?"
The princess looked around, making sure nopony was around to hear her, "My sister and Miles are mortal enemies to this day. She doesn't forgive him for nearly killing her and her son long ago and he hates her for having her army slay his family and townspeople. Miles doesn't know she has returned and is here with her son...he also doesn't know what really happened when-"
Miles kicked open the Throne room doors and stomped inside, "What do you mean she is here!?! You allowed that heathen god to return!? Do you not remember what she did!? Where is she so I can slay her!" he barked but Celestia quickly rose.
"Don't you dare threaten my sister! I understand what she did was unforgivable to you but she has paid the price! She is still trying to reintergrate herself to modern society and doesn't need to deal with old problems Miles!" she glared at him as he drew his sword
"I will not rest till that bitch dies like she should have long ago!" he turned to find Lunar guards pointing their blades at him and Princess Luna behind them, smiling wickedly
"Miles Militis...I see my curse is still in effect. Did you have fun while I was gone?" Miles scowled at her as her guards drew closer to him "How's the family? I bet they are rather enjoying their dirt nap-"
"Silence yourself you dirty whore! I will kill you for murdering my family!" He rushed her guards, they stood their ground as Miles attacked the two in front. He swung his blade against theirs, his strength allowing him to knock their swords away and with a swift kick, the two were knocked back. The other six surrounded him and tried to stab him all at once, Miles flew up and kicked one away and punched the guard beside him. the four tried to take flight and pursue him but Luna called them off.
She looked at Miles with indifference, "Same old Miles..." she said with a evil grin "As of this moment...by royal order, Miles Militis is enemy of the crown for attempts of assassination of a princess" Miles stopped and looked at her then at Celestia
"Miles...I warned you..." was all she said as the sound of guards running down the hall grew ever louder.
"So this is how it's going to be...after all I've done for this land..." he said as he sheathed his blade "Guess I will see you both in hell" He ran towards a window and jumped out before spreading is wings and flying away, a loud gust behind him.
"Princess...please reconsider what just happened. He didn't know or come to terms with what happened before...call off the order, I'm sure you two could reason with him" said Autta, a bit worried for Miles' fate.
"You know nothing of the past! Stay out of our affairs before you find yourself behind bars" snapped Luna
"Sister! Calm yourself, I didn't have time to let Miles know of your return, he needed time to vent out any frustration. I am calling off the order and that is that...Auttawhishy, please go follow your partner and calm him down...we know we can't kill him but...we can restrain him in a very unpleasant manner." warned Celestia, Luna walked out as she rolled her eyes. The scramble of guards outside stopped and Autta took to the skies, she was worried for Miles, she may have just met him but she couldn't help but feel something other than care for him.
She looked about the skies to see if he was hiding amongst the clouds but found only a rainbow maned mare on one as she slept, she then scanned below for any sign of him but found none. "Maybe he is at home. Yeah, it is a fortress but I'm sure his isn't going to be accepting any sort of company, even me...hmmm..." She thought for a while of how to break into his home when she remembered the top window of the fortress had now bars. She flew over the Everfree till she found his home, she lowered herself till she was facing the window. Before she rammed herself into the window, she paused "Wait, why am I gonna smash in when I can teleport in" She closed her eyes and her body began to be covered by white, glowing markings
She teleported inside and stood still as she tried to hear where he was. She picked up on light footsteps coming up the stairs. "Miles, it's Auttawhishy, I came to talk to you. Princess Celestia called off the order, she wants me to help you calm down"
Miles stepped out from cover, sword in hand "How did you get in!? I rigged the window to detonate a charge if anypony tried to smash their way in" Autta felt a bit dumb for not telling him about her powers.
"Listen, we can talk about that later but for now, let's go downstairs and talk about you and Luna. The sooner we get over this, the sooner we can start working together." Miles was about to yell at her but he quickly stopped himself, she didn't really understand their problems much less was she causing the problem so he had no reason to take it out on her.
"Fine...we will talk..." with that he sheathed his sword and began to head downstairs with her, trying to calm his nerves about seeing Luna once again after thinking she would have died during her banishment to the moon. He sat down on the couch and Autta sat beside him.
"Okay...tell me what still bothers you about Luna living" she said, Miles thought for a while as he calmed down a bit.
"I hate her...for what she has done...to me. The war has been long over and both sides were at fault. Luna was jealous and stubborn while Celestia was prideful and greedy. The war was a waste of time and lives, most ponies don't even know that it occurred due to Celestia burning the records of it and fabricating a story of them fighting amongst each other in one night. It never happened that way...never." Auttawhishy nodded, she could sense the war itself wasn't the cause for his anger at all so she poked a bit more.
"What did she do to you Miles?" she asked with a calm tone, Miles closed his eyes and gritted his teeth a bit.
"She had my family murdered, Autta, in a cruel and merciless way...I can never forgive that...never." Tears brimmed in his eyes as he tried his best to suppress his old pain but as he thought of the day he discovered his wife and filly, hung from a balcony with their intrails falling out of their cuts; the tears came out. Auttawhishy looked at him with much concern since his tears were not normal. Blood were his tears but it looked as if they weren't from an injury.
"Miles? Y-your eyes...there's blood..." she pointed out to him, he simply nodded and wiped his bloody tears away.
"When you have cried for so long...when the pain never leaves you...your tear ducts die off from over use and only blood comes out now..." he explained. Auttawhishy frowned and hugged him, knowing the feeling of having old pain haunt her at times. "I also hate her...for keeping me alive for so long...there are times when I beg for death to take me and let me move on the to the afterlife to be with my loved ones...yet death never comes...I don't like it but I can't help it. I cannot die and Luna is to blame for it. She cursed me and here I am...a pitiful excuse for a stallion..."
"Hey, you are a great stallion Miles...more than you think. You have kept Equestria safe for so long and done so well that guards actually slack off. I understand wanting to be with your loved ones but...maybe one day you will join them. Make them proud while you are still here and one day you'll be with them for sure." Miles felt a bit better from her words, he still hated Luna with a passion but not enough to hunt her down, even though he wouldn't mind doing so.
"Thank you...really...it's quite nice to have somepony who understands me...I...never mind" he smiled a bit and hugged her back, she smiled and nuzzled his neck.
A blast could be heard outside and they both stood up quickly, a voice called out to them from outside
"Miles Militis! Celestia may have called off the guards but Luna raised the bounty on your head, we are here to collect!"
