Chapter 19: Death Of The King

Chrysalis' castle, Equestria, midday

I arrived at Sombra's room just in time to see him attempting to rip the life out of Twilight by strangling her. I know she and I hated each other, but I had to do something. I couldn't just let her die there in vain. "Put her down!" I yelled with fake confidence at King Sombra.

The King retracted his shadowy coils abruptly, letting Twilight drop to the floor. "You musssst be Xyclone," he said. "I've heard a lot about you from the changelingssss."

Ignoring his comments, I quickly ran over to Twilight. She was still trying to catch her breath back from where Sombra nearly choked her to death, so she was unable to speak. When I held out my hoof to her all she did was stare at me with a look of awe. As a tear rolled down her face, I noticed how different she looked. Her eyes had returned to normal; they weren't drifting apart anymore. She was no longer twitching or giggling madly. She grabbed my hoof and I ran her back over to Bon-Bon, who was still standing in the doorway of Sombra's bedroom. "Get her somewhere safe," I told her when I reached her.

"Xyclone, I—" Twilight gasped out, but I was already facing Sombra again.

"What do you mean you've heard a lot about me?" I asked him, finally acknowledging his statements.

"A couple of dayssss ago, a changeling returned to us in critical condition. We assssked him who had injured him so badly, and you fit hissss description perfectly."

I froze again. "Well, is...i-is he alright?" I asked, concerned.

"Oh, I don't know," replied Sombra with dark sarcasm. "You damaged him fairly well..."

I gulped.

"Anyway, I would like to ask you a quesssstion, young Xyclone."

"What do you want, Sombra?"

"Well, I've just been declined by Twilight, which, as you can ssssee, didn't turn out well for her...but you are very much like her, Xyclone."

"What are you talking about?"

"From what I heard from the three changeling sssscouts we sent to find you all, you are extremely skilled in magic, but you don't know how to control it."

I reluctantly nodded in agreement.

"Not jusssst that, you anger very easily. You become even more powerful when you're angry."

"Where the hell are you going with this?!" I asked the Dark King impatiently. "Get to the freaking point already!"

"I want you to join me by my side to rule Equestria!"

I scoffed at him. "You must be joking, right? Who in their right mind what want to team up with you? I would never betray my friends like that!"

King Sombra turned around and began trotting away. He sighed. "I thought you would be smarter than Twilight..." He whipped back around suddenly. "...But it seems I thought wrong!"

Out of nowhere, he charged at me. Not having enough time to react, he made contact and it sent me flying towards the back wall. I dented its smooth marble surface. The bloody bandage that was wrapped around my head from when Twilight hit me the other day finally came flying off. I was a bit surprised; I forgot I was still wearing it. As I attempted to get up, a spearheaded staff from a hanging armor uniform up above me fell and bopped me on the head before landing in the centers of my hooves. A clever smirk appeared on my face.

Sombra trotted up to me. "I really didn't want to have to do this," he said to me. "But it seems I'll have to kill you. It's quite a shame, really. We could've been teammates."

"You're not killing anypony today!" I responded confidently. I suddenly jumped back up and jabbed my scepter at The King. He dodged it just in time; then he chuckled.

"Aw, that's so cute!" he said. "Now it's MY TURN!"

He aimed his horn at me and shot dark lasers out of it. Out of pure reflex, I blocked my face with the spear and it deflected the beam, sending it shattering through a stained-glass window. Sombra yelped in disbelief. "Are you kidding me right now?" I said, looking down at the staff. "Oh-ho, hell yeah!" I shouted. I then held on to it with both hooves and swung at Sombra. It smacked him in the face, and the shock forced him back a few inches. The sharp tip of the spear sliced his cheek, leaving him with a bloody gash on it. He groaned in furious frustration as crimson liquid began dripping from the wound onto the marble floor before him. Laughing maniacally, I stuck the spear tip of the javelin into one of the grooves between the floor tiles and pole-vaulted over King Sombra. I did a couple front flips before landing successfully behind him. "Bring it!" I challenged the King. It was then that I realized that I had been standing on my hind legs the entire time.

Sombra didn't say a word. Instead, he just charged me again. Dropping back down to four legs, I reciprocated his actions by charging after him as well. "RAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!" we both roared. I held the staff in my left hoof and prepared to strike, when King Sombra reverted back to his shadow form and I ran right through him. Before I even knew what happened, Sombra solidified again and stomped his hooves hard on the floor. It caused me to lose my grip on the scepter and I fumbled it in my hooves. The point swung up and scratched me in the face, giving me a cut similar to that of The King.

"There," he snarled. "Now we're even!"

"In your dreams!" He shot another beam and I blocked it again with the staff. Then we charged yet again. This time Sombra tried to rip me to shreds with his sharp teeth. I blocked him with the scepter.

"You're making a mistake!" growled King Sombra. "We could be partners! You don't know what you're doing!"

"Oh, I know exactly what I'm doing!" I yelled at him. I pushed the King away from me using the spear, then prepared to charge once more. I decided differently and smacked him again with the butt of the staff. It ,surprisingly, had a powerful affect on him, because he reeled in confusion, covering his mangled face with one of his hooves.

This was my chance; Sombra was weak. I had to end this; I had to end this sadistic ruler's oppressive dictatorship. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. I moved back a couple of steps, and then I ran; fast. Once I was close enough, I dove high into the air. Invigorated, I let out a massive battle cry: "WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!" I soared so high into the air, I felt like a pegasus. It felt like my entire life was in slow motion. During my time in the air, Sombra gazed up at me. He was in complete disbelief. It was then that I noticed a vulnerable point in his chest armor. What with him looking up so high, it made it an easy target. I dove down towards him. This was it; my moment of glory. "AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!" I exclaimed as I plowed the spear through King Sombra's armor.

I must've hit my mark, because all I heard next was a deafening cry of excruciating pain emanate from Sombra's mouth. Blood splattered everywhere as the spear punched through his chest cavity and into his evil heart. I tried to pull my lucky little staff out, but it was literally stuck inside Sombra. I retreated a few steps, then kneeled down to face him. "In case you were wondering, the answer to your offer is 'No.'" I said softly to the disgraced King.

King Sombra smiled. He chuckled weakly. "You foolish, foolish colt. Do you have any idea what you have just done? Chrysalis will—"

I stopped him. "I know just what I've done. I know we never knew each other. I know we never had any problems with other, but I know a sadist when I see one. And I hate sadists. I know that your rule was one of the worst things to possibly happen in Equestrian history. It's time someone finally brought it to an end. It seems it had to be me. I couldn't care less what Chrysalis does to me. Whatever happens, it'll be worth it to finally end your oppressive reign off terror."

The dying King Sombra laughed again, this time coughing up blood. "You...you would've made a great king."

"Where is Chrysalis' room?" I asked him, stonefaced.

He continued to cough up more blood. He smiled despotically at me. "What does it matter? You all are already dead."

I angrily grabbed him by the armored collar and shook him violently (I'm surprised I was even able to lift him up off the ground.). "WHERE...IS...THE QUEEN'S...ROOM?!" I growled at him through gritted teeth. "WHERE...IS...*LYRA?!"*

The King started cackling. He cackled louder and louder, the sound echoing throughout the huge room. After that, he dropped to the floor, vomited more blood...

And then there was silence.

Enraged, I snapped off a piece of the staff and shoved it down his bloody throat. "Filthy bastard," I muttered, trotting away from The King's lifeless body. It was then that I noticed Twilight and Bon-Bon hiding in the shadow of the huge entrance doors to Sombra's room. They had been standing there the whole time and saw everything. They both stared at me, speechless.

"Wh-Where's L-Lyra?" stammered Twilight shyly.

Not looking up, I said, "He didn't say. Chrysalis' room shouldn't be too far from here. Come on, let's go."

"That...was amazing," said Bon-Bon incredulously. "You really hated him, didn't you?"

I ignored her, still refusing to lift my head up. I started running; I had to find Lyra. I missed her so much, even though we had only been separated for a few hours. Concerned, Twilight and Bon-Bon followed. I was glad; I was probably going to need their help.
