My name is Cameron, simple enough name and I'd like to keep it like that. Though sometimes you're life is changed, even if it's for the better or for the worst. Things happen for reasons and some you can't stop them alone. That's why you have friends you can trust, ones you can understand, ones...who will never leave you behind.
I set my book bag in my locker, looked in the mirror that was in my locker. Don't know exactly why I had it, sister always saying and something to that dull locker of yours. It made me chuckle, though looking at my reflection I could see I was a decent looking guy, not some jock body builder who's a complete jerk.
I shook the thought way fixing my clothes getting any dust off, I sighed closing my locker. I yawned rubbing my eyes making my way towards the library.
I walked into the library and looked around, I saw my best friend Sam who was holding a ton of books and slowly walking across the room, he was struggling as he walked and seemed like he was going to drop them. I quickly made my way over and grabbed half the books, he gasped softly feeling the sudden weight shift looking at me with a smile. "Thanks man, I though I was about to collapse there for a second." He said quietly with a smile. The both of us carried the books over to a empty shelf and began to put them up.
"So you set for that hike?" I asked quietly trying not to have the librarian give me a speech on silence in a library at me again for being loud..
"Yeah, you know where Josh is?" He asked as we both finished putting the books away and leaving the library.
"I actually don't. Hell...who knows." I said with a soft chuckle, looking around. "He might just pop out and boom...it's a weird day." I said shaking my head. We walked down the hallway and...my vision became blurry. Things were hard to see suddenly, I groaned holding my head.
"Whoa...Cameron, you all right?" Sam asked with concern, checking me over. I groaned softly and shook my head, waving my hand. "I-I'm fine...don't worry..." I said breathing slowly, rubbing my head.
Sam had a little concern on his face as he sighed, we made our way outside and I looked around. Josh busted through the door and rolled, panting heavily as he looked at the school. "Whoa, where are you going Mr. Flash? " Sam asked with a chuckle.
"No, time to talk. Meet you at your house Cameron!" He shouted running off, running to a tree and climbing up it and jumping away from branches. The principal then busted out the door, he was soak and parts of a popped balloon were on his shoulders. He seemed pretty pissed off about something, and I fear Josh had something to do with it.
"Boys! You two are associated with that hoodlum. Where did he go?!" He shouted, he was drenched in water. Now, Josh was crazy. He loves games and parties, and especially pranking people. It sometimes became an issue and when you get to know him it slowly opens up to who he is.
"No, sir we haven't..." I lied with a small smile, Sam covered his mouth to hide his snickering. The principal grunted and he walked back into the school, me and Sam turned to each other and laughed loudly, tears of laughter going down our cheeks. It was something to prank teachers and students but the principal was out of line for Josh. We sighed and wiped the tears from our eyes and made my way home, the three of us lived in a Cul-da-sac (I don't know how to actually spell and pronounce it.) and we were able to visit each other and hang out usually.
Sam and I reach home and we kept and eyes and ear out for Josh, he's quick minded and fast. I waved to Sam as he walked into his house to get what ever he needed. We had discussed and agreed that we would camp out. I had never been camping myself but the idea sounded fun. I ran up to my room and thought my mother was in her room doing something, my father was at work and my sister was over at a friends house.
After getting a few shirts and a pair of pants or two, I put them in my pack and onto my back. I opened my door and my mother must have been about to knock because she hit me in the forehead. "Oh sweetie I'm so sorry!" She said quickly in a motherly tone, my mom was sweet and all but sometimes it's overwhelming. Like having a dog always wanting to play, even in the middle of night.
"Mom...I'm fine." I groaned softly taking a small step back, out of her reach. "You act like you just punch me in the face."
"But I did!" She said with alarm, I rolled my eyes and pushed her hand away from me. "Look, men and the guys are going camping this time, we should be back on Sunday."
As soon as I said that she gasped loudly and shook her head. "No, no, no! I am not letting my son out there to get himself hurt!"
I closed my eyes and rubbed my temples. "Mom, I'm almost done with school, and I gonna move out in a month or two..." I said with a little sadness in my voice. Of course I would be free on my own, but I will miss the constant love from my mother. She's sweet, and my father is a bit on the cooking side. He sometimes comes home with either a cut or burn, my mother flips out when he comes home like that. But I'm getting off track...
"Cameron...you've been such a good boy...I hate to lose you..." She said with a few tears going down her cheeks, I gasped at the sight of them. Hitting me straight in the heart.
"Mom...y-you must know...I won't be around longer..." I said as I chocked a bit on my words, shaking my head. "You must know you can't hold me forever, the reason I'm going away is because you did a great job in raising me. I love you..." I said moving closer to her, hugging her tightly.
She smiled hearing my words, hugging me back with the same strength. We hugged a few seconds longer before she slowly pulled back, a few tears going down her cheeks but a smile on her face.
"I knew you were a great son...I-I'll try and be more calm around you. You aren't my little boy anymore..." She said while wiping her cheeks of tears.
"Thanks mom, I'll see ya later..." I said walking past her, she grabbed my shoulder before I did. She leaned over and pecked me on the cheek.
"I love you son..." She said patting me on the shoulder, I smiled at her and nodded. I sighed softly and made my way out of the house. I stepped outside to have a cool breeze, I took a deep breath and exhaled with a smile on my face. I gasped softly as I suddenly ducked, a water balloon flew over my head.
"Hey! How come you always know where something is about to hit you!?" I heard Josh yell, I chuckled softly and stood up. "Nice try...and you'll never know..." I said shaking my head, rubbing the back of my head.
"Anyway, if you two are done pranking each other...I'd like to get a move on." Sam said with a small grunt, I nodded and walked around the house. Seeing the two packed up.
"Alright...guess I'll take lead." I said walking past the two and heading into the woods, I looked back at my friend with a smile as we enter the woods.
After twenty minutes or so we reach a small patch of where there were no trees, the bright sun shining down on the three of us. I smiled and looked back at them, Sam with a compass and Josh looking around enjoying the looks of things.
"This seems good, don't you guys think?" I asked looking around, I took my pack off and set it down next to a tree and chuckled softly. "Hell...if I can remember there is a great spot for swimming close by." I said taking out a rolled up tent, I looked back at them and saw they were doing the same.
"Alright, Sam...you can at least set up the tents. Josh, you set up the fire and I'm gonna head out and try and find the water." I said with a smile, I grabbed my knife my brother and father gotten me for my birthday. I took it out of its sheath and saw the letters 'Killa' on it. I had like hunting and video games, always going in crazy. My brother said I was always head strong and did my best with things, stupid yes, something I took pride in was a huge yes. I sheathed it and put it in my back pocket, I stood up and looked at the two and smiled.
"Alright, I'll try and hurry back." I said standing up, stretching my back. They both nodded and started to get to work, I whistled as I went off towards the area where I thought the lake was. I stepped over some fallen trees, branches and the such. I found myself going up a hill and smiling at the sight. The lake was in a great view from the hill, the suns rays coming down and making the water shine beautifully.
I moved down the side of the hill coming closer to the edge of the water, I looked around as i stuck my hand in the water. Waving it around a bit I smiled as it seemed good enough to swim in. I gasped loudly as I quickly pulled my hand out, looking in the water at my reflection. My eyes twitched slightly as...I didn't see me, I saw a strange shadow like figure and glowing red eyes. I groaned standing up, I rubbed my eyes mumbling something under my breath.
I began to make my trip back to camp, something picking at my mind. I did my best to ignore it but just grew more irritating, I shook my head groaning as I held my right eye. A throbbing pain as if I was having a migraine. I don't remember how long it took me or even when I got back to the camp, but had stumbled a bit when I saw that the fire was finished and everything, ready to be lit. I looked around a bit more and noticed Josh snoozing off against a tree, Sam writing something in his notebook he carried around.
"What are you doing?" I asked walking over to Sam, looking over his shoulder seeing a well detailed drawing of Josh asleep. That another thing Sam did to pass the time, he had picked up drawing and had lots of inspiration to do it.
"Shush, messing up my concentration..." Sam mumbled as he looked at the notebook then Josh. I nodded going over to the unlit bonfire, I looked it over with a small smile.
"Gonna be a good weekend..." I said stretching my arms, I poked the bottom of it a little and adjusted the rocks. Josh yawned loudly and stood up looked around.
"Damn it Josh, had a good view and everything." Sam said slightly annoyed, he sighed putting his notebook away, he stood up and sat in front of the bonfire. "Guys got any good stories? Even...though it's not night.'
Josh moved over and sat down. I smiled a bit as I was about to say something but Sam stopped me. "You don't get to tell any this time, last time about the decapitated doctor. Ugh, always have to be graphic? Even with words you give chills."
I rolled my eyes crossing my arms, Josh snickered a bit and cleared his throat. "Alrighty then ladies, I got a couple for ya..." He said laughing softly.
Many Stories Later
"And as the girl got into her house and thought she was safe...a trail of blood led to her room and she found her own body!!" Josh said waving his hands around. Sam seemed a bit taken aback by the story but it was simply nothing.
"So...killer ghost? Okay...kills you makes you think your safe and boom, dead." I said recapping the story. Josh nodded with a smile. We had gotten the fire burning as the night sky twinkled beautifully.
"It's scary ins't it." Josh said chuckling, Sam was sitting there drawing with a small smile on his face. He then yawned loudly rubbing his eyes. "Time to turn in." He said standing up putting his notepad away, he went over to his tent getting in. Josh did the same as I stayed putting the fire out, after a bit I finally checked the coals to feel they were cold. I yawned going over to my tent kicking my shoes off outside and slipping into shorts with a normal shirt.
I got cozy in my sleeping bag closing my eyes stretching, I sighed as I felt myself slowly fall asleep.
I didn't know what time it was, everything was strange. It was still dark as I slowly sat up, I looked down at my hand. My vision kinda blurry, I groaned slowly getting out of the tent looking around. I rubbed my eyes and checked my friend's tents to see if they were awake. When I looked inside I saw nothing, in both just nothing. Their sleeping bags left behind including there stuff.
I gasped loudly stepping back looking around, I had started to panic slightly. "Sam! Josh! Why are you guys!?" I shouted slowly grabbing my knife, my mind was running wild with thoughts. Was this a prank? Was this something else? Have I lost my friends?
I just had to find them, I grabbed a flashlight and checked the batteries. They were decent for now, I turned it on and slowly made my way into the woods. I cursed at myself for not getting some kind of footwear as I stepped on rocks every now and then. I heard a branch snap and I stopped in my steps freezing, I looked around panting a bit as I shined the flashlight any where.
My eyes widened seeing three wolves, all growling and looking hungry. I took a few steps make with a nervous fake smile. "H-hey there...nice d-doggies..." I said softly slowly pulling my knife out. One of the wolves suddenly jumped straight towards me biting my right arm holding the knife, I grunted loudly as I felt the knife slip from my hand. I tried reaching it but the wolf had a tight bite on my arm and was digging into the flesh.
I raised the back of the flashlight and gave a quick and had swing onto the wolf's head causing it to yelp and let my arm go. I panted looking at the bite mark backing up as there was a lot of blood, I looked around for my knife reaching for it but was charged and tackles by another wolf. I panicked as it snapped at me, I grabbed it by the neck throwing it off of me panting. I stepped back and started to just run.
The adrenaline helped the pain stay down a tad, I panted heavily looking back seeing them all chase me causing me to run faster. I kept running over logs and branches, I soon gasp to a skidding stop seeing I was stuck on a hill. I looked over seeing the river from earlier, it had some kind of shine to it. I gasped hearing the growling behind me turning seeing the wolves getting closer to me. I looked around then at them as I stood on the edge.
"N-no...damn it not my some damn wolves!" I shouted turning looking at the water, I took a few deep breaths and jumped forward. Hitting the water with a loud splash. I grunted as I hit the water a bit hard. I slowly swam away under the water and soon surfacing in the middle. I panted coughing a bit as I looked around, I didn't see those wolves and I felt almost safe.
I perked up feeling a tug on my leg, I looked down not seeing anything. I grunted moving my leg around as I felt another tug, I ignored it this time starting to swim back onto land. I blinked a few times as I couldn't move. I started to try and swim faster but I stayed in place. I started to panic trying to get away, suddenly I was taken under water. I struggled as I surfaced coughing up some water from my lungs.
I still felt the pulling and I tried to get free but to no anvil as I was taken back under water. Further this time, I held what ever air I could as I had went under slowly struggling I surfaced again. I breathed heavily coughing, this time I took a deep breath as I went back under. It was hard to hold my breath as I was taken deeper, my vision was getting blurry.
I slowly stopped as I couldn't fight anymore, I felt things go black, I felt myself drifting away.
I opened my eyes, I blinked a few times looking at my hands, I looked around seeing pitch black. "Am...I dead? I don't feel dead. If this what dead is being like it sucks!" I shouted in anger, there was a deep evil sounding laughing from the dark. I froze looking around, I looked forward.
"You're not dead you idiot, not yet at least." The voice was male, giving an echo with each word.
"What happened?" I asked softly rubbing my eyes. I gasped as I felt a hand smack me in the face. "Ow geez! What was that for!?"
He laughed and I heard a few bones crack. " I wanted to do that for so long, heh now...I'm working on a plan and you're my pawn. You'll live and follow my orders."
"And if I-I refuse?" I asked nervously rubbing my cheek.
"What do you think? Death! I swear that's one of the most stupid things to ask."
"Alright, sorry..." I said softly shaking my head.
"Seeya later kiddo." He said as I felt myself drift again.
