"Madam, it's time to wake up the sun." comes a dull voice in my ear. I groan and flip over. The sun can wait a little longer can it not? I sigh and open one eye, flinching slightly at the bright lamp that flared up beside me. The lamp lit up the face of my oppressor, an old grey-haired earth pony with an indifferent look on his face. As if I was like any other pony and waking a goddess was as exciting as writing his own name 1000 times. That's what I liked about this particular servant. The way the others acted around me had gotten dull over the years. Simpering and talking to me as if I was a foal. I longed for one servant to discipline me, to let me do as I please. But that, as many other things, were left among the stars.
Princess, that is what they call me. My shimmering hair is lovely they say, not to me though. I miss it's old pink hue. And Luna's lighter blue. Every day Is the same, breakfast begins with a "Would you like to have another cup of tea 'your highness'?" I answer them sweetly, "oh, no thank you." Their kindness sickens me so. I wonder if out of all of my subjects, that not one even knows what is going on truthfully in my head. All they see is the beautiful goddess before them, smiling but truly frowning. Ruling a peaceful land, but having an endless battle in her own mind.
If I look sad they want to make me happy. I may never be happy again. Not without her. I wake every day expecting her to softly ask me to raise the sun. I would say, "five more minutes" and she would laugh. But she isn't here, not anywhere near me. For in that prison she will have to stay for a thousand years or more. I had to lock her anger away, to keep it from burning my heart any longer. I had ponies to protect. They were dying, with the moon being their only light. Plants were wilting and there was no time to spare. Even if their fake love mocked me, I still cared for all of them. Through it all, not one pony cared if Luna was safe. All they wanted was the sun and a beautiful mare to be their ruler. Nothing more, nothing less.
` I traveled from Canterlot, hoping to find her in our old castle. She sat upon my faded golden throne like it was her own, her dark blue figure proud and strong. Confusion rivaled my fear, asking her why the moon was in my sun's way. She would not answer, keeping her head held high. I couldn't look look into her eyes. My precious light? What in equestria did she mean? Before I could do a thing, she leapt at me. Her blade was blood red and needle point sharp. It grazed my cheek as I turned to run. "Coward!" she screeched at me, and that is what made me stop. Swords clashed, blood was spilt, and I lost not only myself in the battle but a sister. My life flashed before my very eyes. My mind visiting cool nights under her newly painted sky...
The grass was soft beneath me, it's green ends tickling my stomach as me and my sister looked at the sky. The moon was completely full, it's white surface matching the stars settled around its silvery glow. Luna's horn lit up as she made figures with the stars. One being a small mare and her foal, another of discord in a wedding dress. She laughed so hard at that, making him dance and do backflips across her black canvas. Discord himself being a stone figure miles away, we both loved to mock him in his defeat.
"T-Tia?" She says after finally calming down resting between my front hooves, her hiccups making her stutter slightly.
"Yes dear sister?"
"Who are we?" She said softly, "what are we supposed to be?"
I look up at the sky, pondering her question. The sun was I, the moon was she. But we were ponies, like our people. Could we be both at once?
"I think we are like every other pony," I finally answer, "even if we are immortal, we still have feelings and emotions, just like them."
She nods, smiling at my answer, "I knew it."
"Then why did you ask me of all ponies?"
"Because," she grins and snuggles closer, "I love you more than all the stars in the sky!"
"I love you too... More than all the clouds in Equestria!"
Luna's last constellation that night was a picture of two alicorns, standing proud above the sky that they ruled. Never to be separated, the mares in the stars never left. Showing the unity of the two princesses, and the bond. But the day she fled Canterlot that constellation did not appear in the sky. Only the mare and her foal not smiling, but frowning at the ponies bellow.
Now Luna stood before me, her sword slowly being brought down upon my head. I look up at the sky through the crumbling ceiling. She had never bothered to put out the stars. I absorbed my surroundings. Noting that Luna would probably move back into this castle, leaving Canterlot to become ruins. Why am I thinking of this now? Why as I await my well deserved fate? Guilt comes down upon me like a waterfall pounding against my head. Why did I ignore her? I needed to focus on what was at hand but all that was playing in my head was...
"You are my sunshine...."
My horn lights up, showering the dark castle with yellow light.
"My only sunshine..."
Her slitted eyes show their well masked fear.
"You make me happy....."
Both cheeks are wet.
"When skies are gray..."
The crimson light hits her chest.
"You'll never know dear..."
She is flying through the night Sky.
"How much I love you..."
A blinding light flashed across the sky, the moon taking it's master at last.
"Please don't take my sunshine...,"
I whispered to the moon as a walk out on my balcony in my castle, bringing the great white planet to its daily sleep, a thousand years later,
"Away..."
