Chapter 1: An Unexpected Party!
Pinkie Pie was everypony’s friend in Ponyville. But nothing made her more excited than meeting a new friend. Such an occasion was when she met the newly arrived Sirus Star in Ponyville. Over the coming days, Pinkie Pie in particular would become close friends with Sirus and on a dark night summer our story begins…
Sirus had just opened his front door to be met by a loud “Surprise!” from an enormous amount of Ponyville citizens including Twilight Sparkle, Rainbow Dash, Rarity, Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, Vinyl Scratch, Derpy Hooves and Applejack.
Applejack was leaning up against the water cooler near the punchbowl table with a happy expressions on her face. Pinkie Pie was being her usual bouncy self, exchanging buzzing hoof-shakes and party pranks on most of the unsuspecting victims in the room.
Twilight Sparkle and Rarity were debating over the origin of where gemstones actually come from, or if they always existed. Fluttershy and Derpy Hooves were dancing merrily in a circle with Angel Bunny, while Vinyl Scratch organised the party music by the DJ Table.
“Oh, my I wasn’t expecting company!” Sirus dashed around the room tidying things up in a flash, and hastily hiding a Wonderbolt Uniform that he had hung carefully over a chair. Not realising that he was already wearing another.
“Everypony make yourselves at home, I’m just gonna change into something more comfortable and I’ll be right with you.”
He dashed up stairs in a flash.
“He’s a Wonderbolt?” Fluttershy quietly, yet excitedly asked.
“HE’S A WONDERBOLT?” Yelled Rainbow Dash at the top of her pony lungs. “How come I’ve never met him?”
“That’s because,” began Rarity, moving towards Dash, “He’s in the upper echelon of the Wonderbolts, or to be more precise the Airforce. Tacom Lieutenant Colonel Sirus Star.”
“That’s right,” piped up Twilight Sparkle, “Tactical Army Command Operational Movement – or Tactical Command for short. Why, even Shining Armour has a small role compared to that.”
Sirus had finally emerged from the upstairs floor of his house. He had changed out of his army uniform and was now unclothed, as ponies usually are in Equestria.
“That feels better.” Sirus sighed with relief.
“You’re an Elite Wonderbolt?” Rainbow Dash pried her eyes with excitement.
“Y-you saw my uniform huh? I-I don’t really like talking about work; especially since you all came here for a good time. There is a certain somepony I’d like to invite though, and I here the fastest flyer in all of Equestria just happens to be here tonight?”
“That would be Rainbow Dash, here.” Applejack, patted her back hard, forcing her closer to Lieutenant Star.
“Uhm… Some people like to think that anyway.” Dash was unusually shy in front of the commander.
“How fast do you think you could say, reach the Crystal Empire and return to Ponyville in? Think you could deliver a quick message for me to Shining Armour and Princess Cadence?”
“Ten. Seconds. Flat.” Rainbow Dash perked her ears up, a determined tone in her voice.
“I was hoping you’d say that. Please take this hastily written invite to Princess Cadence and fly back with their response.” No sooner had Sirus finished saying this, Dash has vanished out of the room, leaving a blur of rainbow colouring behind her.
“I don’t know how fast they can get here though.” Worried Twilight.
“I already saw to that, I included a teleportation spell that Princess Cadence and Prince Armour should have no trouble in casting.”
Twilight winced a little, she wasn’t used to her brother being called Prince Armour; no less so that being used to being a Princess herself.
Armour and Cadence arrived in the room with a flash, Rainbow Dash coming in a close second behind them.
“That was fast Rainbow Dash; I’ll have to send a special report to Spitfire. She’s your academy teacher, right? Frankly, I don’t see why there holding you back so much when you’re clearly a better Wonderbolt.” Praised Sirus.
“Twily!” called Shining Armour, almost tackle hugging his sister. Cadence followed with a gentle squeeze.
“Sir!” Shining Armour saluted, “I didn’t realise you were here.”
“Please, don’t salute, it makes me feel uncomfortable, please be informal and act as you usually would, okay Twilight?” He turned to Twilight with a light wink. None of you should hide your true selves here tonight, and above all everypony have fun okay? Pinkie Pie, you’re in charge of the partying okay?”
“Yes Sir!” Pinkie Pie yelled happily, displaying a playful salute.
Some time later, during the party, Sirus snuck outside. The night air was comforting and pleasent. It had been a really hot day in Ponyville, the hottest ever. Looking upwards he saw a shadow-coloured figure resting atop a single white cloud.
Sirus flapped slowly up to the cloud and rested beside her.
“Why don’t you come down and join us?” Sirus asked kindly.
“Thank you kindly for the offer. We are not used to social events of this kind I’m afraid. We feel like we would be out of place.” Replied the Figure
“How are you tonight?” Replied Sirus.
“I am quite fine, thank you. Can’t you sleep tonight?” The figure asked concerned.
“Not with all that partying going on, no.” He giggled, “I don’t sleep most nights, I feel that the night time shouldn’t go to waste either – I mean just look at all those beautiful stars, and those ponies down there are just sleeping through it, missing it all. It makes me feel alive. Don’t you think so Luna?”
Princess Luna looked at Sirus sideways, a little flattered at what he just said. “The stars are pretty beautiful We must admit.”
“I wanted to thank you, Princess Luna.” Sirus began.
“Us? Why do we need such praise?” Luna was curious.
“You watch over all of us at night time, keeping our dreams guarded. Keeping our sleep safe. No one realises the great job you do at night, and how important it really is, so on behalf of Equestria – I’d like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts.” Sirus placed his hoof on hers.
She sighed sheepishly, trying to contain herself. She moved her hoof away shyly.
“Really, Sirus I do not know why you're always so charming especially to me, you just say what you think at the time don’t you.” She paused and gave him a shy glance and continued, “We would like to thank you for your kind words, but we should really get back to our royal duties.”
“Take care, Highness.” Sirus said with a soft voice, returning to his home and through the window of the top floor.
“Have an admirer Sister?” Came a soft voice.
“Sirus?" We are just good friends, and Sirus is a gentlecolt. I do admit that he’s charming and really nice fellow to know, but there are no romantic feelings for him in my heart at this moment.”
Celestia could tell her sister was being honest. “His words make you fell fuzzy?” she pried.
“Sister, I really do not know what you're getting at, but yes, he likes to encourage everypony, and he’s like that with all the mares – I cannot say with any certainty that Sirus and I might never be together – no one knows what the future holds – but right now both our hearts belong to somepony else. I see in his eyes a mare of blue, with a multicoloured mane and tail. And I, well; there is somepony who I have in my heart too.”
“Do you think we should tell them about—“Celestia began
“The ponies in Ponyville like Sirus, his origins surely do not need to be revealed. I can’t see why they’d be relevant. I’m sure Twilight Sparkle has Ponyville in good hooves and I have every confidence that Sirus is a good friend and won’t cause any trouble.” Luna interrupted.
“Wait just a pickin’ minute here, why in the hay haven’t I ever heard of the TACOM fliers before?! I’m like the authority on all things Wonderbolts for ponies sake!”
All the ponies in the room began to laugh, as Rainbow Dash crossed her hooves and pouted. Lieutenant Star ruffled her mane playfully and went to get another cup of apple cider.
BANG! The door burst open; a solider ran inside, knocking ponies over as he went.
“Sir! An Emergency in Manehatten!” He handed a sealed scroll over to the Lieutenant and just as he finished reading it, emergency alarms could be heard in the distance, which resembled air raid sirens on Earth.
