Knock Knock, who's there?
So, it was going to be one of these nights again...
Y'know, one of those where it is simply impossible to fall asleep.
Lovely.
Flametail rolled around in her bed, trying to get comfy in her bedsheets and pillows. She had been doing this for an hour now, ans she was starting to give up getting some sleep at all.
She was in her extremly red themed room, filled with toy fire wagons and houses. It was almost like a minature city on her floor. Ok, it WAS a minature city on her floor. At the far end of her room was a bookshelf beside a mirror and desk that had many things on it, such as a flashlight, a rope, a box of napkins, a few broken fire wagon toys and a leash. Beside her desk was her bed. Her small, cozy, warm bed. And in the bed was the filly, Flametail.
When she was born, her mother had given her the name because of her tails peculiar coloring. It was red and orange and looked like wild fire. Her mane was the same coloring, but did not exactly look like a bonfire. Her fur was a dark shade of gray that perfectly contrasted her mane and tails bright colors. But the most colorful part of this little unicorn was her eyes. Her deep cyan eyes. When her mother had first looked into them, she was terrifyed at first to see such strong color, but quickly accepted it and embraced the little filly with her love.
Now, her love would be one of the last things possible for Flametail to get. Her mother had died in an accidental House fire when she saved her husband and her child, and every day these past two years after she died, little Flametail would be thinking of her. This was also the explanation to what she wanted to become when she grew up.
She wanted to become a Firemare.
But that wouldn't be possible if she wouldn't be avaible to sleep.
The filly flipped over to lay on her belly, but she misscalculated the distance between her and the edge of the bed, so she rolled down on the floor in a loud *THUD*. She groaned and pressed her face into the floor, scenting the dust that was on it.
'I need to clean in here...' She thought as the dust particles danced up into her nose, making her nose feeling uneasy. Afraid of waking her father who was in the room beside hers, she quickly buired her face into her hooves and sneezed.
"Eeeeewwww......." she said as she felt and saw the sticky mixture covering her hooves. She skipped over to her desk and grabbed a couple of napkins, and wiped off her hooves. Because of the lack of a trash-can in her room, she would be forced too leave it and head for the kitchens on the other side of the house.
"Pony-Poker...." She cursed under her breath as she moved towards her door, tip-toeing through the labyrinth of toys. When she had crossed the floor and had made her way to her door, she breathed out in reilef that her city would be intact for tommorrow. For now, atleast. She carefully opened the door, slowly peeking her little head out to check the hallway, and to her amazement...
"All clear." She said to no one special. She walked out of her room, leaving her door open behind her so she wouldn't need to open it when she would head back and risk awakening her father.
Her father was very nice towards her, but oen thing that he hated the most was to get awoken in the middle of the night. He would always get angry with her, and that was a valid enough reason for Flametail to not wake him up. She didn't want to upset her only parent, now did she?
She carefully tip-toed over the blue carpet that covered the floor, Avoiding a few cat-toys on the way, but there was one toy that she couldn't avoid and as she touched it, It made a small bell sound. She froze instinctivly, looking back towards her fathers door. Her ears perked up as she heard a small grumble from her fathers room, but she sighed in relief as her father continued his snoring. But one resident in the house had herd the bells tingle, and that was their cat. Normandie. She was a tortoise colored female that had a white belly and nose and she was very old for a cat. 22 years old, in fact. Normandie gingerly ran towards Flametail, tail high up in the air like a flagpole. Flametail smiled.
"Silly old cat..." she muttered under her breath. She shook her head and continued on towards the house's kitchen. The stairs in the house was made of oak and was lined in black thin lines. She trotted down the stairs carefully step by step. When she made it to the bottom, she stumbled. It was hard to see in the dark, so of course she had to stumble atleast once. Flametail then half-ran to the trashcan beside the kitchen counter. She enjoyed living in a open house. But then, she froze.
She swore she had just heard a tapping noise on glass. She looked at the closest window, but naturally, there was nothing there. She felt shivers run down her spine as she thought about it. She carefully walked towards the stairs when she heard it again. Louder this time. She curled up slightly and looked towards the window again. Nothing.
Okay, she did definently not like this. She mustered up all the bravery she had and continued walking. The tapping returned, but now it was constant. Not daring to look at the windows, she rushed up the stairs, not caring about if her father awoke. The constant tapping was no longer tapping, but rather knocking. Hard knocking. Flametail opened her room door and ran through her small city, making several pieces fly around she jumped up on her bed and crawled in under the sheets. The knocking was loud, ear crushing banging by this point. Flametail pressed her hooves against her ears as small driplets of tears ran down her cheeks. She threw away her bedsheet and looked at the window. Still nothing. She wailed. And looked'around the room, and quickly, her eyes landed on the mirror. It didn't reflect, it was all black and for a split second, she swore she could see Normandies tail getting sucked in as the banging stopped and the mirror went back to normal.
