The Following is a Love Story
Dear Diary,
Oh, Diary, I have wonderful news! That painting, the one I've been working on for ages and submitted to my school's art contest, I just got news that it won! First place in all of Baltimare! I'm so glad my teacher convinced me to paint an abstract fruit basket instead of the dying dragon painting I was working on. Maybe she was right about that whole ponies-not-liking-sad-stuff bit.
Anyway, I've already received my prize in the mail, though not nearly as cool as winning the art contest. I got a check for 100 bits, and something I wasn't really expecting: a ticket to the Grand Galloping Gala. Now you know I'm not one for crowds, however leaving Baltimare and going to a Canterlot, even for one night, just seems so exciting. Earth ponies like me don't get to go to places like Canterlot that much. Maybe this is destiny calling me—maybe I'll meet somepony to hook me up with an art show—or ask me to paint something for Princess Celestia! Or maybe I'm just getting a head of myself.
I'm heading on the train in two weeks, but it's a long way to Canterlot. My mom says it'll take around half a day to get there, and I've never been on a train before, but I'm ready for anything.

The Following is a Love Story
The following is a love story, composed of letters, diary entrees, news articles, transcriptions, and other forms of media, all of which document the incredibly unlikely journey of two ponies.
I was not fortunate enough to remember the two, as their time ended before mine truly began. I reside, as I have for most of my life, in Cloudsdale. Raised by my cautious paternal grandmother, I was shut inside most of my life, and instead developed an undying love for reading and writing. During my teenage years, in a fit of boredom and defiance, I opened the attic to find an incredibly large collection of letters written to my father from my mother. Reading through them, I found something my grandmother never told me.
I followed the return address, through which I was able to meet my maternal grandparents, who resided in Baltimare. I had many questions which my grandmother never wished to answer about my parents. They understood my interest and let me into my mother's old room, where I found a treasure trove of letters, diaries, school assignments, government documents and the like. Through theses resources I was able to piece together the life and love of my parents, everything from their favorite foods to where they first met to their untimely demise.
Due to the sheer volume of information, and out of respect and privacy for those involved, I am only able to share a small amount of this story with you. However, these articles, when pieced together, tell the tale better than I could ever write.
