Spike's Imagination
Spike the Soldier
Previous ChapterNext ChapterThe Ponyville market place was busier then ever. Various ponies of size and shape were trotting around, each one going to a different vendor and buying their stuff. Among the many ponies shopping, is a lavender alicorn and her dragon assistant.
The two managed to get half everything on their grocery list. But, then Twilight suddenly stopped in her trot and remembered something.
“Oh no.” Said the troubled mare. “We forgot to get the apples.”
“Don't worry Twilight I'll get the apples for ya.” Spike offered his help.
“Thanks Spike, that will be great,” She then levitated some bits out of her bag. “Here take this and get as many apples can.”
Before baby dragon could go of, Twilight said one last thing for him. “After you get the apples, wait for me outside of the market place. I gotta do some errands before I can meet you there.”
Spike simply nodded and went of, deep into the market. He passed several vendors selling common to unique items. Each pony running the store was trying to sell something to him, but he kindly refused and continued on.
The was on a search for where Applejack set up shop. If he remembered correctly her apple stand should be around this corner. Turning on a corner, Spike saw somepony behind the apple stand. It wasn't Applejack, it wasn't Big Macintosh, it wasn't even Granny Smith. Instead it was the youngest of the apple family, Applebloom.
As he walking towards her stand, the little drake felt a strange emotion coming from within. This the same thing he felt every time he is with Rarity.
He wasn't sure why he feeling this for Applebloom, sure she was cute, but that doesn't he found her attractive. He tried to look away, but his eyes were drawn to her.
As he stared, he noticed all the filly's features. Her bright yellow body, her beautiful red mane, the adorable pink bow, and her sparkling orange eyes.
“Heya Spike, are you alright?”
Applebloom's voice brought Spike out of his trance, looking up he saw the filly giving him a confuse look. Realizing that he was blushing, he wanted to make the purchase go quickly before she notices.
“How many apples can get with this much?” He asked, giving her the bits.
Applebloom found his behavior strange, but counted the bits anyways. “This gets you six apples.”
“Can I get bag with those six apples?”
“Um sure.” She took out a paper bag and filled it with the six apples. “Spike, is there something the matter?” She asked, sounding concerned.
“No nothing thanks for the apples bye!” He said in one rapid sentence. He then turned around and quickly walked away.
Appleblood found Spike's behavior strange and wanted to find out why. However, she can't leave the stand unattended, besides it was probably none of her business anyways. So she just there waiting for the next customer to come, all the while still thinking about the little dragon.
When he thought he was far enough, Spike glance back at Applebloom for a second before continuing his walk. He remembered reading something about, according to the book it was natural for boys his age to go through, it was basically puberty and a sign of growing up.
Silently grumbling to himself, Spike left the market place, blaming his hormones for that embarrassing moment.
The baby dragon sighs as he stood waiting for a certain purple alicorn to arrive. Spike didn't have a watch, but he could tell that is was along time.
Seeing that he will be here for a while, Spike decided to pass the time by taking a trip into his imaginary world.
On today's adventure he'll be storming the beaches of Griffonia.
It was cloudy on the beaches of Griffonia, the dark grey clouds covers the skies, hiding the bright yellow sun and blue sky.
On the beach itself, there was large wall that separated the beaches from the main land. The wall was heavily fortified, with machine guns and cannons on top, and a bunch of infantries down below. You'll need army to break through this wall.
Unfortunately, for the griffons, an army is what they are going to face.
A couple of miles ahead of the griffon wall, there is three Equestrian battleships heading in their direction. When got close enough, the three battleships opened the door below and release several small boats out.
These boats, each containing a group of ponies, are making a beeline to the beach. Once they land, the troops will empty out of the boat and assault the wall.
Among the many troops is very unique individual. He is unique for he is not a pony, rather he is dragon.
Spike the soldier was standing in the boat with several other pony soldiers doing the same. The ocean's wave rocked the meat boat, this cause some of the troops to be seasick. Spike spotted one them threw up on the floor.
“sixty second, until landing!” the boat driver yelled out from behind.
“Alright pony listen up!” the squad leader said, raising his voice. “Just as reminder, once we land we keep moving forward and joined up with the rest of the company! Once there we will proceed onto the next phase of the plan!”
“Fifty second!”
“Just remember, keep your head down, take cover, and don't be a hero!”
“Forty second!”
At this point the griffon's artillery started pounding their position. While a majority missed, a few hit their mark. A boat next to Spike's suddenly blew up.
“Thirty second!”
More explosion sound can be heard, this was causing some of the ponies to worry. Most of them had only finished boot camp and now they are here participating in a major battle.
“Twenty second!”
A series of loud banging can be heard outside of the metal boat's wall. They were close enough for the griffon's machine gun to target them.
“Ten second!”
“Everypony get ready!” the squad leader shouted.
The boat touched land and it halted. The front door of the boat slowly started to unlock, when finished the door dropped down become a ramp for them.
The ponies at the front rushed out and made a mad dash for cover. Spike and some other troops were in the back so they have waited for the ones in front of them to move.
Just before Spike's foot can touch the ground, the artillery hit the boat, destroying it. The blast wave propelled the tall dragon forward, crashing his face into the sand.
Spike was lying there not moving, mere seconds later his body risen. Wiping the sand out of his eyes, the dragon looked around. He sees carnage everywhere, pony troops galloping in, only to be mow down by the machine guns and cannons. Boats tried to land, but were blown up.
He watched all this in eerie silence. The blast must have blown his eardrums.
When he started to worry about being deaf, his fear vanishes when his hearing slowly returned. And when it did he could everything. The sound of the ocean waves, the sound of gun firing, and the screaming and yelling between the ponies on the beach.
Picking up the nearest weapon, Spike ran for cover, all the while keeping his head low as possible.
He took cover behind a bock of concrete left by the griffons. It was intentionally for the purpose of stopping any any boats from getting further inland. But, now it is being used as cover for the Equestrians.
Moving to one cover from another, Spike managed to keep himself safe from the machine gun emplacements. When he near a big strip of land with no cover, he knew he had to make a run for it.
He waited for the machine gun to stop firing in at his position, and when it did, he swiftly move out of cover and rushed forward.
Around him, other pony soldiers were doing the same things. Some got hit and were left behind by their comrades. As Spike was nearing his destination, a soldier ahead of him got his got shot and fell down.
At that moment Spike wanted to help him, but remembered what his squad leader said. “Don't be a hero.” He repeated the words in his head. But, instead of following the advice, he ignored and carried the injured stallion. He may not be able to save everyone, but he can still save the ones that he can.
The dragon soldier managed to carry the stallion to the forward position. It was basically a large crater filled with troops. After handing the wounded soldier to a medic, Spike met up with his squad leader.
“Ah good, Spike you're here.” He said. “We can really use you right now.”
“What do you need sir?” Spike responded.
“We have enough troops here to griffon's defensive line at the wall.” The stallion then pointed his hoof at two ponies carrying large explosives. “When we reach the wall. We'll plant the bomb and blow us hole to go through.”
“Sound simple enough.” Said Spike. “How do I fit into this?”
The stallion then smiled. “The griffons won't be expecting a dragon in our ranks, I want you to create a diversion. Draw all their attention towards you and we'll flank them from the other side.”
Spike accepted his task and was about to leave, but the stallion stopped him. “Whoa there kid, you're going to need more firepower than that gun.” He then held a machine gun in front of the dragon.
Spike smiled at what he saw and picked up the weapon.
Spike then proceeded to crawl into place, near the enemies defensive line. He could see all the griffons readying themselves for an attack from the ponies. When he finally got into position, he lifted the machine gun up and fired.
The griffons were caught of guard by the sudden attack, especially one from a machine gun wielding dragon.
Spike kept firing at the griffons, laying suppressing fire on them so they can't fire back. He also made sure to move around a lot, so he could dodge their weapons.
As they were distracted by the dragon, the griffons failed to notice the ponies sneaking behind them. When they got into position the ponies opened fire.
Like dominoes, the griffons started to fall, one soldiers at a time. When they were none left, the ponies planted the bomb on the wall. After wiring it to explode, everypony backed away in a safe distance and took cover.
The twin bomb exploded, making a huge noise that can heard from the top of the wall. Once the dust settled, there was big gaping hole in the wall. Everypony pony were ordered to go through the wall and take out any griffons beyond it.
They followed their orders and they all charge right through. On the other side was the griffon's base, the ponies wasted no time and fought against the griffons.
Spike joined the battle later in and was still wielding his machine gun. A new addition to his arsenal, was a strap of grenades. Taking one up and pulled the pin out with his teeth, he toss into a group of griffons and they exploded.
He picked another grenade and was about to throw it, until he heard someone call his name.
“Spike!”
Spike was suddenly brought out of his fantasy. He turned the to source of the voice and spotted Twilight giving him an odd look.
He then look at his left claw, it was holding the apple like the grenade in his imagination.
“Spike, I been calling you, why haven't you been paying attention?”
The baby dragon lower his head and stared at the ground, attempting to not look at her “I'm sorry Twilight, I was just playing around.”
“Spike I need you to be aware of what's going on around, you can't just can't keep doing this.” The mare sternly said.
Despite not looking at her, Spike could feel her gaze on him
Twilight was a bit angry with Spike, but she calmed herself. She then placed her hoof on his shoulder. “Look Spike, I know you were just playing around, you're still a child after all. Just be more alert when somepony is calling for you, alright?”
Spike raise his head up and nodded. The then return home and restock their fridge and cabinets. Once done they left the house again and went on the next thing on the schedule, going to the spa and meet up with the girls.
