Flight Camp
Scootaloo?
Previous ChapterNext ChapterThunderlane heard the door burst open followed by loud crying. Thunderlane quickly sat up and went to go see what was wrong.
"Rumble!" he yelled trying to get the young one's attention as he ran off up the stairs and completed his journey by slamming his door shut.
Thunderlane ran up the stairs and tried to open the door to Rumble's room which he almost completely expected to be locked. But oddly it opened easily so he assumed that Rumble either forgot to lock his door or his hoof slipped in the quick moment. The sound of cries echoed in his ears. He sat down on Rumbles bed next to him and ran his hoof up and down his back in an attempt to try and sooth him. Rumble was face down in his pillow crying and was getting mud all over his clean sheets and pillow case. But neither of them cared. Rumble was too distraught and Thunder only wanted to calm him down and try to figure out what's wrong.
"Rumble can you please tell me what's wrong?" Thunderlane asked desperately still rubbing his back. Rumble lifted his head and wiped the snot from his nose with his hoof followed by a sniffle.
Rumble inhaled deeply before he spoke. With a long exhale out of his mouth, Rumble muttered a long explanation, " I was picked to demonstrate flying and I couldn't get off the ground for more than a second. Then because of that, everypony made fun of me. Then on top of that Jet knocked me into the mud."
Thunder was shocked at what he had been through in the past 30 minutes. "Rumble it's okay, ponies can be cruel to eachother sometimes. And just because you fail once does not mean you should ever give up."
Thunderlane said these words but knew they were just a load of bull. In actuality Thunder was a little upset that Rumble was such a pathetic flier, but he couldn't say that to his little brother. Instead he kept saying words of encouragement.
"You know when I was your age I was the worst flier in my class." Thunder knew this wasn't true. He was just hoping Rumble didn't.
"You were?" Rumble asked in a bit of disbelief.
"I sure was. And now that I think about it, so was dad when he was in school!"
Rumble looked with a confused face at Thunder and responded with, "How could you know? You were only 8 when he died."
Thunder looked with a face of nervousness as he thought he was caught and just said, "Because he told me when I was 7" He let out a cheesy smile. Luckily, it looked like Rumble had bought it. Thunder continued, " When I was young he told me that he used to do the flutters." Thunder's face scrunched as he put together a puzzle in his head. He had never seen rumble fly, but he thought might have the flutters like many young pegasi do. "Do you have the flutters?" Thunderlane asked Rumble careful not to offend him.
"What's that?" he asked.
"It's when young pegasi flutter their wings instead of flapping them." Said Thunder thinking he had found the source of his incapability to flying.
"Well when I fly my wings flutter and I fly but not very well." Said Rumble
"Well next time try to flap them slowly then speed up. It shouldn't be hard for you, seeing as to that you have those large wings. And you know what they say about large wings too, right?" Rumble smiled at his brother's quirky compliment.
Their conversation was interrupted when the doorbell rang. Thunder got up and went to see who it was while Rumble got up and went to the bathroom to wash some water over his face.
While Rumble was washing his face, his brother yelled that it was for him. Rumble thought to himself Who would wan't to see me? Rumble dried his face on a towel and went down the steps and was greeted by a familiar face. But this time it was one who he didn't hate but rather fancied. Her purple mane and orange fur was bright and a little dirty from the flight camp she had just come from.
It was Scootaloo. Why is she here? He thought staring into her beautiful eyes.
His stare was broken by her greeting, "Hey Rumble, the coach wanted to see us both." He wondered why but didn't speak up about it for she continued talking, " He wants to talk to the pegasi who cant fly well."
Rumble looked in confusion, " You're not a good flier? But I thought Rainbow Dash was like your big sister or something like that?"
Scootaloo simply looked flattered. "No, Rainbow is not my sister. We are just friends. We aren't related." She sat simply amused at what seemed like a compliment to her.
"Well are we gonna get going or what?" Rumble spoke up.
"Oh, Right" she responded after being broken out of her focused gaze on what seemed to be the ground.
