Our Goodbyes

Apple Bloom opened the door to her house. The room was cold and dreary, and the rain outside had done it's toll on her cherry mane. Her tangerine eyes were bloodshot and red from crying. What had happened that day was terrible. Apple Bloom was around the age of Twilight and the others by now, and they had all gone and went their separate ways. Pinkie Pie had became a professional baker, and Rarity a famous dress maker. Twilight had taken Celestia's place as princess, Fluttershy worked in a pet shop, and Rainbow Dash became captain of the Wonderbolts. Apple Jack on the other hand, did not live up to her dream like the others. For she had gotten sick, very sick. She could barely talk anymore. Her voice was scratchy and quiet. When she would talk, nopony could ever really understand what she was trying to say.

Apple Bloom's friends were doing great. Scootaloo got into the Wonderbolts, and Sweetie Bell became a well known singer. Apple Bloom herself began to take Apple Jack's place, bucking apple trees just like her family always did. By now, Granny Smith was already gone, and Big Mac had gotten married and moved away. Apple Bloom was the only young mare left at Sweet Apple Acres.

As Apple Bloom entered her dying sisters room, the only thing she heard was the beep of a heart monitor, slowly losing speed. " A-Apple... Bloom..." Apple Jack said, her voice almost to quiet to hear.

" Yeah sis, it's me" said Apple Bloom," Ah brought you some medicine.Ah thought you would need it." Apple Bloom went to put the bottle of medication down on the table, but to her surprise, Apple Jack pushed it away. " Apple Bloom," she said," `Ah don't think I'll need this..." Apple Bloom was shocked, she needed her sister to live! " A - Apple Jack!" she cried," You- you need it!"

" I know, I know..." Apple Jack whispered," But, Ah'm not gonna live long anyways... I'm so tired, Apple Bloom."

" But, you're my sister!" Apple Bloom cried," You can't leave me all alone! After Ma, Pa and Granny Smith died, and Big Mac moved away with his wife, I've been so lonely..."

" Ah'm sorry Apple Bloom... I just can't do it anymore..."

Apple Jack looked to one of the little plugs on the heart monitor," Apple Bloom, can you do me a big favor?"

" Yeah sis, anything!"

" Please, pull that plug..."

Apple Bloom's face was filled with horror. She didn't want her sister to leave her! They were like apple pie, like Apple Jack had said to Rarity when Sweetie Bell was mad at her!

" No!" Apple Bloom screamed," You can't die! Ah need you! You're my big sister!"

" I'm sorry Apple Bloom..." said Apple Jack," You have a full life ahead of you. New friends to make! Shucks, you may even get married like Macintosh! But, with me holdin' you back, none of that will happen to you... So please sister. Do it for me..."

Apple Bloom was mortified. She didn't want to be alone again. All of  these months when Apple Jack was sick, she had tried to be prepared, but nothing she did worked. She couldn't face the fact that her only sister was about to leave her. Just like everypony else. But Apple Bloom knew what she had to do. Apple Bloom got out a picture of her mother and father out of her cream saddlebag, and put it in between Apple Jack's hooves. She gave Apple Jack a soft kiss on the forehead," Apple Jack, say hi to ma and pa for me, okay?" Apple Jack gave a slight nod and closed her eyes. Apple Bloom felt a tear go down her dry cheek as a faint smile appeared on her face. " Goodbye, sister... ".
