Rabid Rabbit Reprecussions
This was a one shot written for the Vampony Survival Guide Tumblr.
Many things terrified her but nothing compared to what was happening now. Angel was sitting on the couch with a small round object in his forepaws. Only after her eyes adjusted to the light could she make out what it was.
“Is that…Oh My,” She thought as she could make out the head of one of her squirrels. The eyes were missing as well as the ears along with a large hole at the top of the skull. Suppressing the urge to vomit she tried to walk upstairs without tipping off the rabbit
“Could I even call him that anymore,” unfortunately for her the thought had caused her to trip of the stairs slightly. With a small squeak she righted herself but not before she heard a low thumping behind her. Turning around she saw Angel sitting at the bottom of the stairs glaring at her.
“Oh hi Angel I was just…going to bed,” she said hesitantly. This only caused Angel’s scowl to deepen, after she turned the corner at the top of the stairs she went into her room and locked the door.
“What am I going to do?! I have no idea if he found that or if he…no Angel would never do that…would he?” as she wrestled with her thoughts she failed to notice Angel walking into the room.
His eyes slowly shifting from their normal black to a deep crimson. His teeth elongated to fine points and his paws began to grow three, three inch claws. A light crackling tipped her off as she turned to see a terrifying little creature.
“A-Angel?” was all she managed before her former pet leapt at her claws outstretched. She ducked narrowly avoiding the talons as she began to plead with the former rabbit
“Angel? Why are you doing this? I thought you loved me…I loved you” then angel did something that she never expected, he spoke, not clearly or coherently but enough to be understood.
“Yes...loved you, no more, venom close, not yet turn, liability. But can save you if become like me,” he gestured to himself as he talked. As she pondered her choices Angel spoke up again
“Time short,” gesturing to the window “Need choice,” with one final sigh she had made her choice
“No… I’m sorry Angel but I don’t think I could live like you do not without doing something I regr…” she was never able to finish her sentence as three razor sharp claws tore into her abdomen. Looking down into Angel’s eyes she couldn’t see any remorse, no sorrow, no anything except one thing she thought she would never have to see in an animal’s eyes…hunger. A hunger not for vegetables or fruits but a hunger for something far worse than that… a hunger for her end, for her life, for her blood yet she saw a twinkle of sadness, of understanding and of hope? As Angel began to reach for her throat on final thought crossed her mind as she stared at him
“I’m sorry,” she whispered as he tore open her throat. She looked over at the window for one final time before she passed and saw something she didn’t think she would…me. Rainbow put down the quill and started to sob
“Why couldn’t I save her? Why couldn’t I do ANYTHING?!”with the last word punctuated by her fist smashing the cloud desk she was writing on with a thunderclap. All her strength spent, all of her will broken Rainbow flew out to her roof and laid there sobbing. All you could hear from that cloud home for the rest of the night was a small repeated phrase, as quiet as the mare its being said to
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry,”
As the light met her eyes she felt a crust covering her neck and abdomen. Suddenly realizing what it was she looked down she saw a thick layer of caked…blood? A small squeak emanated from her mouth as she ran for the bathroom. The mirror offered no solace as the reflection that stared back at her had the same coked blood an her body as she saw earlier. Not wanting to vomit she quickly turned on the shower and began to scrub furiously. She couldn’t remember anything from last night and that bothered her a lot. After she finished her shower she looked at herself again and was horrified what was beneath the dried blood was much worse than the blood itself. Three parallel scars had been cut across her lower abdomen, but what scared her more was what was much higher up. A second set of three scars crossed her neck along with a very odd set of puncture scars on the side of her neck.
“How did I get thes…” her thought was interrupted by Angel who had pushed open the door. All the memories from last night came flooding back. She recoiled away from angel as she began to stammer
“S-Stay away p-please I don’t want to d-die” Angel simply shook his head
“You is dead,” he said flatly. Her eyes went as wide as they could simply to stare at her pet. He began to speak again much to her horror
“Plan, long time, turn you when ready,” the words simply reaffirmed her fears as he continued. “Had to feed, opportunity to turn, not as planned,” she had to cut him off there one question she needed answered
“How long have you had this planned?” He spoke quietly as if not to scare her even more
“Plan in motion, long time, been biting for long time, just need finish turn, happen last night, not plan, last night was frenzy, very rare, need save you,” as he finished she looked deep into his eyes and saw nothing but honest sorrow for what he had done and she decided to forgive him.
“It’s OK Angel, but will I need to um…feed like you do?” the rabbit simply nodded and said
“Yes, will need, but not often, once every three months, that keep healthy,” thoughts raced through her mind as she began to contemplate what she had just been told.
“So I’m a m-monster now?” she stammered at Angel.
“No not monster, powerful, beautiful, blessing not curse,” came his flat response. As the sun began to set she began to feel a pain in the back of her head slowly growing over the rest of her body. Her hearing began to amplify giving her a sense of awareness that she never had before. Pain wracked her wings as they began to become more powerful as well leathery. The pain in her mind began to subside as she looked around everything seemed to be moving in slow-motion as if coated in molasses. The mirror yet again revealed new horrors to her. Black eyes with crimson irises had replaced her normal cyan pools. As she looked down her hands had sprouted a set for three inch claws. Her eyes returned to the mirror as she inspected her teeth. Now they were sharp, pointed perfect for letting blood,
"Blood…blood, must feed!” the thought of feeding overwhelmed her logic and her restraint as she took off down the stairs only to be met with two guards ponies.
“Miss Fluttershy? What happened to you? OH SHIT NOT YOU TOO!” not even registering the guards ponies words she leapt at them. One set of claws sliced cleanly through the right guard’s neck but the left guard had turned his head enough to let the helmet take the blow. Drawing his sword he charged at her ramming his sword deep into her abdomen. A small chuckle emanated from the mare turning the guard’s blood to ice. She hyper extended her jaw and bit down ferociously on the guard’s neck. The taste of blood, her first taste, was sweeter than she ever imagined. Her hunger sated she began to revert to her normal self. Angel was looking over the carnage that had befallen the two guards as he removed the sword from her.
“What happened?” she asked quietly.
“First frenzy, very bad, learn to control, need if stay hidden,” he cautioned. With that she brought her eyes to the door and saw someone there, someone she hoped never to show this…
”Rainbow I ca…” it was too late she was already gone. At this point she began to cry uncontrollably as she repeated o single phrase to herself over and over again,
“What have I become?”
Satisfied with her work she placed the quill down and sighed.
“I can’t let myself become this, I can’t become a monster,” this thought rolled over and over in her mind. She looked over at the window; it was midday. She had finally worked up the courage to do what needed to be done. She walked outside and began to focus on transforming. As she began to change she could feel a heat rising in her stomach as her final thoughts twisted and swirled in her mind one train of thought stayed its course,
”I’m sorry everyone I won’t be around to help anymore, and I’m especially sorry to you Rainb…” he thought would never reach completion as the transformation had finished. As much to her joy as her dismay her existence was ended, punctuated by an earth shattering explosion.
Rainbow again put down the quill.
"I couldn't save her" repeated over and over in her head as she contemplated what had happened to one of her best friends. Again she flew to her roof and just sat there staring at the moon. Silent, unmoving, watchful. She finally spoke aloud to no one but herself,
“I will hunt them down I WILL KILL THEM ALL!,”
