Through the nightmare darkly
Jason Looked at the pill he had been given, while sitting in his desk, at home at his apartment, wondering if he should take it. The nut-case who gave it to him said only to take it if he needed a reminder of how good his life was. It was a black and white plastic pill, and he could see some kind of thick, viscous liquid in it if he held it up to the light. He met the screw-ball distributing the odd pills while walking around town that day. He had taken a wrong turn and found himself in a dead end alley. Before he could even turn, he heard the man walking up to him, and when he turned around, he saw a weirdo with catlike eyes and a very split colored suit.
The dude had a gray beard, a thick Scottish accent, and the bar-none weirdest cane in existence, which looked normal at first, but was hollow at the tip, with three screaming faces in a circle around the void. The odd man said that Jason was very lucky to have a life like his, as fucked-up as it was, and he gave him the pill and told him to take it if he ever forgot that. With this, the asylum escapee literally disappeared around the corner. Clearly the guy had no clue that Jason had spent a year in a hospital himself, for the weirdest reason: He had this mental problem, and he needed to kill things to keep it in line. Otherwise, he was a normal, laid-back guy, with friends, family, and a decent job.
Back to the pill: Jason looked at it with confusion, thinking about the man who gave it to him. Why was he willing to trust a lunatic distributing possibly illegal drugs? Was his life really so bad? Sure, he owed money, and didn't have the best living conditions, but life was still bearable. But, then he wondered something: It could always be better, too. He looked up from the pill to a glass of water on the desk. He didn't remember getting water.
Jason looked around, half expecting Louis to jump at him screaming 'PEEEELZ!' and take the pill, probably because he was practically raised on Youtube, and didn't really have a life outside of it. After looking around for the distributor of the water, he gave up and took the pill. It didn't seem dangerous, and it even had a brand name on the side: 'Sheo'. an odd name, but it looked legit enough, probably just some kind of aspirin. After taking the black-and-white pill, Jason went to sleep unknowing of what he had set in motion...
Jason woke up on the ground feeling sore, like he got body-slammed by Hulk Hogan, and Piledrived by the Undertaker. He laid there for a while, unable to move on account of the immense pain he was in, and after an hour or so, he looked at his hand, and promptly flipped out. After thrashing on the ground for a minute, he lost his little remaining strength and remained still, tired from his flopping. He tried to scream, or speak, or vocalize in any way, but nothing came out of his throat, except for a loud, hoarse, raspy screech, and this only caused him more fear, which caused more squawking noises to come out of him.
It took him a while of this, but he finally calmed down afterward, and laid their, utterly and hopelessly confused, but calm, nonetheless. He had something wrong with him, several things, actually: he was lighter, smaller, and he had a long, scaled body as he looked back, including a long, slightly flexible tail. He quickly figured out, after failing to flip out properly, that he was no longer human, but he refused to accept this. Was this some kind of fucked-up drug dream? He had to be, there was no other explanation. He looked at his new hand with increasing curiosity, wondering just what he had become. He had leathery, forest green skin, and if he looked hard enough, he could see tiny, irregularly shaped scales.
Acknowledging his new body, or, at least, the delusion of it, Jason tried and failed several times to stand up, and quickly became frustrated. If this was a dream, why was he struggling so much with his new body? He finally figured out how in less time than he expected; By pushing with his tail, arms, and head simultaneously, He managed to get his legs beneath him, and pushed, find balance, but an odd one, and Jason found himself stumbling and swaying constantly as he tried to walk, falling down at least three times. Finally, Jason regained his sense of balance, and stabilized himself, still unsure of what he was, or even WHERE he was... Assuming this wasn't all a dream, at least.
Jason felt his head out of curiosity, and found it had plumage on his head above and behind his eyes. The way it came over the back of his head reminded him vaguely of the skirmishers from Halo: Reach. He found a small puddle to check his reflection with, and he saw the plumage that he could compare to some kind of headdress, which would have been cool, except he was now a dinosaur, A velociraptor, to be exact, which was REALLY creepy. Having seen enough, Jason walked off in a random direction, eager to see where this hallucination led him. With any luck, it would be to a hospital, where he could flush this crap out of his system, once and for all..
Princess Twilight was observing an unusual phenomenon in the Everfree Forest on behalf of Princess Celestia, who had claimed that a disturbance had occurred there, and required investigation. She looked at her prototype magi-meter, which she had made for just this kind of occasion, with all the weird things that were happening lately. however, despite it spiking before, it was dropping relatively quickly for some reason. She had no clue what caused it to soar to a whopping 20.19 units beforehand, but it had remained there until just a few seconds ago in this clearing.
Most of the forest stood at zero units, since no magic could ever be traced in the forest by the old spells that inspired the magi-meter, so this gave her the inspiration to use it as a base zero for her device. Said device hit zero finally, after a quick drop. Twilight looked around the clearing for any evidence of what happened there. Finally, after some searching, Twilight found foot prints of unknown origin, and of a species she'd never seen before. She saw nothing as to indicate their speed, save the dirt they kicked up behind them. She then guessed they were at a sprint, and a fast one at that.
