But We're Not Even Alike!
Amethyst Star and Sea Swirl are great sisters. When the two were born, it was easy to tell them apart. Amethyst’s mane was violet while Swirl’s was blue. Amethyst was sensitive and dependent while Swirl got into trouble a lot. They were two totally different ponies on the outside for the most part. However, they had a lot in common. The sisters loved the same things when they were foals. They played together wonderfully, laughed at the same things, cried when the other cried, and seemed like the best of friends. They had loving parents that raised them well throughout their childhood. Mother taught the fillies about not being afraid to speak up, and about expressing their true selves. Y’know, the stuff that the fillies were too young to get right away.
“I’m never afraid to speak! I talk all the time!” Sea Swirl stated matter-of-factly.
Their mother laughed, “I mean that you shouldn’t be afraid to tell people what you think.”
Sea Swirl liked what Mother taught them, about the standing up for what’s right, and how you shouldn’t be afraid of anything anypony told them. It made her sound strong and fearless, and because of this parenting, Sea Swirl was known for her fantastic personality.
Father taught the fillies about manners and being nice to everypony, which was a little easier to understand. Amethyst took this into consideration a lot, and ponies commented on how sweet and well behaved she was.
Just like any living being, the sisters developed personalities of their own, but were still similar, like twins tend to be. Sea Swirl was fun-loving, and followed her mother’s advice. Amethyst had a thing for dancing when she was young, and just like every little filly at some point in their life, she wanted to be a dancer. She danced everywhere she went, and she was dubbed as Sparkler to her close friends and family members. But they were still twin sisters. And for foals, they certainly acted like twins. They liked the same things, but would argue about completely stupid things. The two were a handful, every argument playing out with Amethyst being stubborn and Swirl yelling at her, Amethyst crying, Swirl crying because she claims she didn’t mean it, and they wouldn’t talk to each other for the next hour or so.
The two sisters remembered their first day of school. Their parents walked with them to the schoolhouse. When they made it to the little red building, a tan mare with black frames greeted them, and Mother and Father pushed the little fillies along into the room while they talked to the teacher. Amethyst and Sea Swirl made friends quickly. They had some strange ponies in their class. There was one pony obsessed with designing clothes and was always dramatic about just about everything. Another pinkish filly was a bookworm and was the teacher’s pet. The foals in their class were mostly obnoxious, but they still enjoyed their school days.
When the two were around yearling age, they dealt with their own problems. They still liked each other, but it was apparent that they wanted to independent, and being twins gave the impression that they were almost the same pony. At some point, they decided to avoid each other instead of being with each other.
They quickly learned that avoiding each other didn’t benefit anypony. It only made each of them lonely. They learned that they really did need each other.
So, what could they do now? Well, after the silent treatment to each other, they stayed quiet about how they felt. They loved each other, but they hated being treated like they were one. But you can only bottle in your feelings for so long before somepony has a bright idea.
