Dead Space: Purpose
Epilogue Part 1
Previous ChapterNext ChapterFluttershy trotted down the small path in the gardens, holding a small collection of flowers in her mouth. Her muzzle was slightly wet from their unavoidable leaking through the plastic, but she knew that it wasn't the flowers that left a stinging in her eyes as well.
Behind her, the walls of the Canterlot Royal Palace hid the wandering gazes of nobles and the filthy rich, all unaware of the monument that was erected only days after the Summer Sun Celebration. All unaware of the funeral, held only hours ago.
It all felt like a horrible daze to the mare, as if she were struggling to regain her sense of being, as though she were forcing herself through pits of lava, burning her soul as she carried an invisible air of guilt.
"It wasn't your fault," a familiar voice spoke from behind her.
The yellow pegasus didn't bother to turn around as she heard the mismatched hoofsteps catch up with her.
"I'm sorry that he had to go. None of us could have predicted that this would have happened, nor could we have prevented it. It would have always come down to this, but at least he left knowing that you were all safe."
Although she didn't show it, the Draconequus' words were heard and taken to heart as she continued to lightly cry.
"If I could have saved him, I would have done so in an instant," Discord said with nothing but seriousness in his voice.
The pegasus nodded without looking up at him, but saw his shadow stop and droop over in sadness before a snap echoed through the air, taking the shadow and its caster away as the yellow mare stopped at the end of the garden's path.
Before Fluttershy was the figure of a familiar alien that she would always remember. She lowered her head to the ground and placed the small bundle of roses alongside the base of the stone statue. With tears gathering once more, she looked up at the monument, and gazed at the familiar suit that it mimicked, before falling her gaze onto the inscription below it.
