TRAPPED LIKE RATS...ERM...PONIES

Twilight awoke with a start looking around herself to see Rarity,Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Granny Smith, and Big Macintosh sitting next to her in different chairs.

“I see you are wakin up. Good to know. Maybe you can tell us why the hay we are here. Cause those cotton pickin blue suits wouldn't tell us anything.” Big Mac said as Twilight sat up noticing that her fur was clean now.

“I'm wondering the same thing.” Twilight said and looked at Rainbow Dash.

“You told me to go get everypony else remember?” Rainbow Dash said with an annoyed look.

“Oh right. You didn't go alone did you?” Twilight replied in a worried tone.

“Nope. I sent just about everypony I had on call to go with her.” An elderly voice spoke up.

“And you are?” Twilight asked curiously looking at the elder pony. This pony looked old in years but his physical condition looked in tip-top shape despite his age. His mane being light gray and his fur coat a faded blue color with streaks of white on different parts of his fur coat and a sheriff star cutie mark could be seen on his flank.

“Richard Steelmane at your service ma’am.” Richard replied with a bow.

“Officer Steelmane?! The Steelmane?!” Twilight exclaimed as the newspaper clipping she read came thundering back into her head.

“The one and only ma'am. Course I’m head of this here police station now. Got yanked out of retirement a few hours ago and put in charge.” Richard replied.

“Why is that?” Twilight asked though she had a good idea why.

“Well this here killer is behaving a lot like Brandon Hoofsworth so the mayor called me up and I guess kicked the police chief’s flank out you could say...” Richard said with a chuckle.

“Oh. I see.” Twilight replied repositioning herself in her seat now.

“So I hear you were the target of Brandon's apprentice. I'm deeply sorry I wasn't able to find her and help her so many years ago. I tried to get them to keep the investigation open but the chief back then was a hard head and refused to listen to a mere cadet even though he single hoofedly solved the case on the baker.” Richard remarked with an annoyed tone when he spoke of the police chief as he hung his head low.

“It's okay. It's not your fault.” Twilight replied with a sigh placing a hoof on his.

“Thank you Miss sparkle. You truly are a kind soul. But more the case as to why you all are here.” Richard said looking around at everypony now. “I gathered you all here because you all either know Twilight very well or have at least met her more than once. Course Twilight here is the main reason for this. It was her insight in the killer's pattern that allowed me to confirm this was indeed Fluttershy's apprentice.” Richard said with a smile at which Twilight gave a confused look.

“I told him everything you told me then when I said I had to gather the gang he suggested I grab anyone else who knew you and sent about twenty police ponies with me to get everyone.” Rainbow dash explained taking note of Twilight's confused expression.

“I caught on too late though...Applejack's dead.” Twilight said after hearing this tears in her eyes.

“Now you listen here Twilight.” Richard said lifting her chin up to meet his eyes. “I was on the force for five years before I was put on the case with Brandon Hoofsworth. You'd think that would make anypony a pro in no time right? Heh...that's what I thought too. But during the years of being on that case I learned I didn't know a cutie mark from a tar stain when it came to thinking and figuring out how a serial killer thought. So many times I got there too late. Put the clues together too late. Heck. If you want know the truth. The only reason I caught him was because he screwed up.” Richard said earning shocked gasps from everypony.

“That's right. You heard me. I got lucky and managed to find something he left behind at the scene of one of his kidnappings. His last victim managed to shred some of is mane off. He always cleaned up the scene behind himself but this time he goofed up. Maybe he was just getting sloppy. But either way that shred of his mane allowed me to get permission to raid his home. I was too late to save the victim again but this time I was able to catch him in the act!” Richard said looking to everypony before he continued. “Ten years I spent tracking that psychopath down. But you Twilight. You figured out this killer was Fluttershy's apprentice in a mere two days after they began. And that my dear mare is quite an accomplishment.” Richard said looking at Twilight now.

“But I couldn't have done it without your documents in the library. So the real credit is yours.” Twilight replied earning a chuckle from Richard.

“Kind soul and modest...almost makes me regret deciding to put you in charge of this case.” Richard said causing Twilight to gasp as her eyes widened in shock.

“You mean....” Twilight said trailing off.

“That's right miss Sparkle. The Ponyville police station is at your hoof. When your ready let us know what to do next. Just don't let it go to your head okay?” Richard said with a wink tapping her shoulder with his right hoof and walked away.

“Wow, Twilight this is soooo awesome!” Rainbow Dash exclaimed excited.

Twilight however wasn't jumping for joy. In fact this made her feel even worse. How could they rely on her? She barely had any idea of what was going on or where the killer would strike next. The only thing she knew at the moment was Applejack was dead and the killer was after her.
Twilight's eyes suddenly widened as she had an epiphany. The killer was after EVERYONE SHE KNEW. And everyone in this room that she had told Rainbow Dash to gather knew her.

This is Twilight's mind was a worse case scenario. Everyone in this room was a walking target now. “How could I be so stupid?!” Twilight exclaimed in frustration causing everypony to gawk at her.

“What's wrong Twilight?” Rarity asked curiously.

“The killer is going after everyone I know right?” Twilight replied.

“Yeah. That's why you said to get everypony together. So we could be safe right?” Rarity replied confused.

“No! It's exactly the opposite! It makes sense right now! She wanted me to gather you all in one place!” Twilight exclaimed looking around.

“Why in tarnation would the killer want that? She can't get us if were all together. She would have to get us alone and that won't happen if we stick together right?” Big mac replied to her comment.

“We are in a police station with a built in prison Big Mac. There are over two hundred places she can hide.” Twilight replied to this.

“Oh come on. She wouldn't be dumb enough to go marching into a police station would she?” Rainbow Dash replied then gulped as the obvious come to mind seemingly at the same time it did Twilight.

“Unless we had no idea who she was.....” Rainbow Dash said after a few moments causing everypony's eyes to widen in shock including Richard's upon hearing this.

“Get me a report of everypony who has entered this police station arrested or otherwise! And I want it in my hooves yesterday!” Richard exclaimed at the top of his lungs upon which the police ponies began to scramble around looking through file cabinets.

Suddenly the alarm began to sound throughout the police station. “Jailbreak in progress...activating lock-down.” A computer voice announced upon which the front of the police station suddenly had a steel wall slam down blocking off all exits and all windows also had steel plates slam down in them.

“Override this now!” Richard exclaimed at which point the police pony scrambled with the computer in front of them. “I can't! The entire computer system has been corrupted!” The police pony replied at which point Twilight let out a long gasp as the world seemed to zoom in on her as she gasped. “The killer has us just where she wants us....” Twilight said in both shock and horror.

The lights in the police station shut off moments after she said this leaving everypony in a dark room.
“oh this is bad.....very bad....i know I could kick the bucket anytime but I don't wanna kick it any earlier than I should!” Granny smith exclaimed looking around frantically.

“We're as good as dead aren't we?” Pinkie Pie said in a high pitched scared tone to which Big replied with a “Yeeeuuup!” in a scared tone as well.

“Everypony calm down! This may be exactly the thing we need to catch the killer.” Richard shouted trying to calm everypony who was panicking.

Twilight got to her hooves and walked over to Richard. “I don't think so.” Twilight said in a whisper.

“Why not? The killer is locked in here with us.” Richard replied in a low whisper.

“And how many ponies know the floor plans of this place?” Twilight asked at which point.

“The floor plans are in the computer.” Richard replied.

“And the computer is fried.” Twilight replied at which Richards eyes widened realizing where she was going with this.

“Ohhhh......sshhhhhiiiiiit” Richard said slowly in shock and horror.

“My thoughts exactly.” Twilight replied with an eye-roll.

“Is there a way to override this security system?” Rainbow Dash asked flying over to Richard and Twilight bumping into several ponies along the way as her eyes adjusted to the darkness.

“The manual security override is located in the warden's quarters of the prison part of this police station.” Richard replied.

“And let me take a wild guess....” Twilight replied in an annoyed tone trailing off. “The warden's quarters is located in the very back of the prison right?” Twilight finished after a few moments at which point Richard nodded earning a loud frustrated groan from Twilight.

Richard then walked over to a filling cabinet and shuffled through it until he pulled a rolled up poster of some sort and a small lamp, walked over to Twilight, and the others and flung it open on the floor in front of them then turned on the lamp. “This is an old blueprint that was used in the construction of the prison many years ago. It's outdated, but it should give us a general view of what we are looking at.” Richard said as he glanced over it.

“How many changes have been made since this blue print was made?” Twilight asked curiously looking over it as well.

“Well over two hundred.” Richard replied earning yet another frustrated groan from Twilight.

“Cut a pony a break would ya? I've been retired for about twenty years now and my first day back on the job this crap happens.” Richard replied in an annoyed tone.

“You'd think they would be super duper careful huh Twilight?” Pinkie Pie said walking up to them now.

“You'd think.” Twilight replied still looking over the blue prints.

“If only you had you're horn still. You could just teleport to the warden's room in a flash!” Pinkie Pie said with a smile.

“No horn? What ever shall we do?!” Rarity's voice chimed in from behind them melodramatically then gave them a sarcastic look.

Twilight caught on fast to this. “No way Rarity. I'm not sending you in there without help.” She said as Rarity walked over and looked over the blue print as well.

“We simply have no choice in the matter Twilight. If I know where the warden's room is I can teleport there in a flash,switch off the security system, and boom we can get out of here.” Rarity replied to this.

“But this blue print is outdated. You heard Richard. It's had over two hundred changes made to it. If you teleport to this location you could very well teleport yourself into a wall or something.” Twilight said still not liking this idea.

“As much as I want to agree with you Twilight. We really have no choice in the matter. The longer we sit here debating the longer the killer has to plan their next move on us. And while being in one room seems safe. I don't wanna rule anything out. For all we know the killer could be right in this room. And pick us off silently in the dark one by one. Beyond this light here we can't see our hooves in front of our faces.” Richard said looking at Twilight now.

“Twilight. I understand you're concerned. And I won't lie. I'm not liking the idea of going in there. But we have no other choice.” Rarity replied in a matter of fact tone.

Twilight looked from Rarity to Richard several times before letting out a sigh. “Fine. But you're going to take a radio headset with you. And I don't care if you see the damned override switch in front of your face if you spot the slightest hint of movement you get your flank right back here. Got it?” Twilight said at which point Rarity nodded.

“I need to radio headsets over here.” Twilight said in a higher voice at which point two Police ponies walked over and gave her and Rarity a headset. “The frequency is channel eighty-four okay?” Twilight said sliding the small dial on the headset till it read the number eighty-four as well did Rarity nodding before they both put the headsets on their heads.

“Just promise me you'll come back alive okay?” Twilight said giving Rarity a hug.

“Oh don't worry darling.” Rarity replied with a halfhearted laugh.

“Promise me!” Twilight exclaimed as tears of worry and fear for one of her best friends swelled in her eyes now.

“Okay. I promise. Wish me luck.” Rarity replied breaking the hug and disappeared in a flash of magic.

Rarity appeared in the spot on the blue print however it wasn't the warden's quarters. “Well, at least I didn't appear in a wall...” Rarity thought to herself in a nervous tone as she made her horn glow so it provided a small light. With this small light she was able to see around herself at least. The prison was large and vast to her as she took in her surroundings.

As she looked around to her right she saw a large stone wall with several metal doors along it, to the front of her she saw a large and long steel wired platform moving along the middle of the entire prison. Rarity assumed this to be a walk way for guard ponies and continued to look on to her right and saw yet another stone wall with several metal doors along it.
“Rarity? Are you okay?” Twilight's voice came from the speakers in her headset.

“Yes. I'm fine. But it looks like i appeared near the middle of the prison.” Rarity replied into her mic.

“What do you see?” Twilight asked.

“I'm on the walk way between two stone walls with steel doors on each side of me. And i'm standing on what looks to be a metal wired walkway.” Rarity replied at which point Twilight looked over the blue prints back in the entrance room to the police station.

“Let me see here....” Twilight said aloud running a hoof along the blue print scanning it for what she described until she found it. “Okay, Rarity. You're in the maximum security block. The good news is that according to this your not far from the Warden's quarters.” Twilight said into her mic as Rarity began to walk along the walkway looking around herself.

“And the bad news?” Rarity asked speaking into her mic.

“Well, as much as I’d hate to bring this back up. This blue print isn't exactly accurate. So we have no idea if your really close or far away.” Twilight's voice spoke from her headset speakers.

“Well, then I suppose I should press on and hope that the warden's quarters is close.” Rarity replied as she walked forward.(Play Halloween H20 now)

Rarity looked around herself as she walked looking for any sign of movement the entire place was quiet not a sound which made her even more uneasy as she pressed on each step making a faint echo in the darkened maximum security block. “Is it supposed to be this quiet usually?” Rarity asked in an uneasy tone at which point Twilight looked at Richard.

“Is it supposed to be that quiet?” Twilight asked curiously.

“There are multiple sections of the maximum security block chances are she appeared in one of the vacant ones.” Richard replied.

“According to Richard, there's a good chance you appeared in one of the vacant sections of the Maximum security block.” Twilight replied into her mic.

“Well I suppose that's good. Makes it easier to spot someone if they try to sneak up on me.” Rarity replied in the same uneasy tone looking around herself still as she continued to walk through the hall.

“Are you sure this is such a good idea Richard? I mean the killer may be right in that very same place and we wouldn't know till it's too late.” Twilight said to Richard turning off her mic before she said this.

“It's not like we have a choice in the matter. Besides you told her to get out of there if she saw any movement right?” Richard replied.

“Yeah, but still...” Twilight replied with a sigh.

A sudden gasp from Rarity caused her to switch her mic back on though.”Are you okay?” she asked in a worried tone.

“I-I'm fine. I thought I saw something move but it's just my imagination I suppose.” Rarity replied as she shinned her horn light over the wall to her right which had a sign that read. “Warden's Quarters.” with a large arrow pointing in the direction in front of her.

“Great news Twilight! The warden's quarters is just ahead!” Rarity exclaimed in a happy tone, broke into a sprint keeping her horn light focused on the right stone wall causing Twilight's eyes to light up in excitement.

“She found it!” Twilight exclaimed happily as Rarity stopped just in front of the door that read “Warden's Quarter's” on it.

“Okay Rarity. The security override requires three steps to activate and should be located in the very back of the room.” Twilight's voice spoke into Rarity's headset as she opened the door with her magic.

Rarity slowly stepped in looking around the Warden's room. Near the door sat a large desk with many papers on it along with a typewriter on it with a small cushioned chair neatly just behind it. To the right of the desk sat a large filing cabinet and to the left a small flag that brandished the Ponyville's banner on it. To the other side of the room at the very back looked to be a glass cabinet door with a device just behind it. Rarity assumed this was the security override and walked over to it.

“Okay, I'm at the security override.” Rarity replied into her mic using her magic to open the glass cabinet door.

“Okay. First you need to shut the system down. You should see a large red button that says only use in case of emergencies.” Twilight said.

“I see it.” Rarity said however a faint cluttering sound made her whirl around. Rarity looked around herself breathing heavily now. She knew she hadn't imagined that but she couldn't see anything. Fear began to fill her as she looked around.

“Rarity? Is something wrong?” Twilight's voice spoke up snapping her back to her senses.

“Uh..no..” Rarity lied. She was so close to helping everypony escape this psychopath and maybe her nerves were just getting to her. At least that's what she told herself as she turned back around and looked back at the device.

“Okay. You need to hold that button down for ten seconds. After ten seconds you should hear a faint click and a red light should appear over the words,system disabled.” Twilight said at which point Rarity placed a hoof on the red button and pressed in,held it there and sure enough a few moments later a faint click was heard and the red light popped on.

“Okay. The red light came on.” Rarity said, and whirled around again at another cluttering sound. Rarity could feel her heart beating very fast now thumping loudly against her ribcage now.

“Okay. Now step two is a little of tricky. You need press the green button located in the upper part of the device that reads,reboot system, wait three seconds, then press the yellow button immediately after that reads, lock in power source. If you don't time it just right nothing will happen so don't worry. But if you time it right you should seen a light green light pop on above the the words, system enabled.” Twilight explained snapping Rarity once again back to her senses.

“O-okay.” Rarity said in a scared tone trying to calm herself as she looked for the two buttons found them, pressed the green button, held it down for three seconds, then pressed the yellow button immediately afterward at which point the light green light popped on. “Okay. It's on.” Rarity replied.

“Alright the final step is cake. When that light green light came on you should also seen several small yellow lights next to a set of blue buttons. These reset the individual security systems. You can't just jump to the end of the list though you have to start from top to bottom. Press each button for five seconds at which point the yellow light should turn green.” Twilight explained.

“Okay. Here I go.” Rarity replied looking along the list. The steel door system was at the very bottom of the list much to her annoyance. She then began to press the first button on the list while Twilight and the others sat waiting.

“Any sign of miss scary killer Twilight'?” Pinkie Pie asked as Twilight fidgeted where she sat.

“No, thank Celestia for small favors...” Twilight replied.

“Oh yeah, Rarity is awesome!” Rainbow Dash exclaimed as the lights flickered back to life in the room.

“Wait a second....the security system isn't tied to the power grid like this. There is no button that turns the lights back on...” Richard said in a uneasy tone looking around.

“Rarity. Have the light come back on where you are?” Twilight asked as Rarity was pressing the second to last button.

“No, Twilight. Why do you ask?” Rarity asked curiously as she lifted her hoof off the second to last button and pressed it.

Twilight's eyes widened as she frantically scanned the blue prints. The main power room was just a mere few feet down the hall from the Warden's quarters according the the blue prints. “Rarity. Get the hell out of there now! The killer is just down the hall from you!” Twilight exclaimed however at this point all she heard was static. “Rarity?! Rarity can you hear me?! Get the fuck out of there!” Twilight exclaimed in a frantic tone causing Richard, Rainbow Dash, and Pinkie Pie to look at her in alarm.

“Something must be interfering with the radio signal.” Richard said looking at Twilight who's eyes widened in horror as she tried again and again to get a hold of Rarity to warn her.

“What was that Twilight? I couldn't make that out. You're breaking up.” Rarity replied as the last yellow light turned green, took her hoof off the button and closed the glass cabinet door and was about to teleport out when yet another cluttering sound made her whirl around and look around the room.

Rarity shined her horn light around the dark room frantically looking for any sign of movement until she stopped an saw a mouse knocking over small objects on the warden's desk. “Oh thank goodness it was only a mouse.” Rarity said with a sigh taking a few steps forward towards the desk.

Rarity let out a sigh of relief as she wiped her forehead sweat off with a hoof. “Twilight. What's going on? Is this thing broken?” Rarity asked aloud tapping her headset.

“Rar...get....there...killer....down....hall....you.....” Twilight's voice came through the headset even though it was garbled she could make out those words which made her eyes widened in horror.

“Twilight. Did you say what I think you just said? Can you hear me?” Rarity asked in a fearful tone.

“No one will hear you scream....” A distorted voice said coming through her headset clear as day causing Rarity to let out a gasp of horror and in the next moment cried out in horror and agony as her horn was slashed strait off her head leaving only a fraction of it left as fresh blood spurted from it. As if on instinct Rarity recoiled and threw herself to the wall looking now through the pitch dark as she sobbed loudly in pain. “Please...no.... don't kill me...please...” Rarity said between sobs as blood trickled down her face.

Rarity saw a faint outline of something come at her and dodged out of the way causing the killer's knife to slash open her shoulder as she dodged. In the next Moment rarity felt her hind legs slashed open by the knife causing her to fall to her chest and began to crawl with her front hooves leaving a smear of blood behind her as she moved slowly sobbing loudly.

Meanwhile Twilight was still trying to reach her. “Rarity?! Can you hear me?!” Twilight exclaimed into the headset as the static slowly cleared up.

“Twi-Twilight...please....help...me...” Rarity's voice came through pained between sobs causing Twilight's eyes to widen in horror.

“Use your magic to teleport back here!” Twilight exclaimed standing on all four hooves now as a overwhelming sense of dread and horror filled her.

“She...cut...off...my..horn.....my horn.....” Rarity's voice replied between sobs of pain.

The headset could then be heard rustling as if it had been yanked off her head. “Are you going to save her Twilight? You wouldn't want you're friend to break her promise to you...would you?” A distorted voice spoke.

“You fucking bitch.....let her go! I'm the one you want! Not her!” Twilight exclaimed in an angry sob trying to hold back her tears.

“Aww...but that's no fun Twilight.....you read Brandon's work...that's not how the game works at all.” The distorted voice replied.

“What do you want from me you sick fuck?!” Twilight shrieked into the headset.

“I want you to beg for her life...” The distorted voice replied and after a few moments Rarity could still be heard sobbing in both pain and horror the mic seemingly put next to her face then moved away so it could barely be heard.

“Please....i'm begging you...don't kill her....take me instead....i'm the one you want....please...don't kill her....” Twilight said in the most sad and begging tone she could muster despite her rage she was feeling at the moment towards the killer.

“Not bad....” The distorted voice replied trailing off however in the next moment Rarity's shrill screams of agony and horror could be heard clear as day along with sickening stabbing sounds.

“Nooooooooooooooooo!” Twilight shrieked into the headset tears flooding from her eyes now as she began to sob loudly.

“But not anywhere good enough.....maybe you'll do better next time.” The distorted voice said and a few moments later a loud clattering sound could be heard as if the headset was tossed to the ground.

“Rarity! Can you hear me?! Please answer me!” Twilight exclaimed into her mic between sobs.

Rarity could barely hear her voice now as blood began to pool under her body. With all she could muster she dragged herself over the headset and held the mic to her mouth. “Twilight....help....me.....please....i....don't...want...to....die....!” Rarity said in a weak tone between sobs however moments later let out a dying gasp as the killer stabbed the knife strait into her back.

Twilight listened to this and fell to her knees sobbing as she listened to Rarity's multiple horrific gasps for a few moments before she let out a sigh and a deathly silence could only be heard now with the faint sound out hoofsteps walking away.

Twilight yanked the headset off her head and chucked it to the wall causing it to break into fragments. “Rarity's dead! And it's all my fault!” Twilight exclaimed , walked over to the wall where the headset lay and began to punch the wall with her right hoof. “I couldn't do anything to help her!” Twilight exclaimed between sobs in an angry tone.

Richard walked over to Twilight whirled her around and slammed her against the wall much to everypony's shock. “Now you listen to me Twilight Sparkle! Rarity knew the risks! She knew the danger she was putting herself in! Don't you dare blame yourself for her death! You hear me?! If I blamed myself for every single victim I couldn't save then I wouldn't be where I am today!” Richard shouted looking into Twilight's eyes which were in shock at the moment.

Twilight however shoved him away from her hard knocking him to the floor. “That's easy for you to say! None of those people killed were you're friends! All you had to do was file out some damned paper work!” Twilight exclaimed however Richard walked over to her and slapped her open hoof style knocking her to the ground at this.

“I lost my brother to that fucking maniac! That's what made me take that case! He killed my brother! My brother was only a few years older than me! He was a Pegasus with a life head of him! And that psychopath killed him!” Richard yelled at the top of his lungs angrily only to get sucker punched by Rainbow Dash to the ground mere seconds later after said this.

“Touch her again and I’ll drop your flank from over a hundred feet in the sky bucko!” Rainbow Dash exclaimed looking pissed as hell at the moment looking at Richard as she stood in front of Twilight.

At this his eyes widened as he looked at Twilight who was holding her bruised cheek with a hoof tears of shock in her eyes.

“Oh dear Celestia...I’m so sorry Twilight....I lost my temper there.” Richard said in a genuine tone.

The first black and white picture Twilight saw in that portfolio came rushing into her head at this time.
“Your brother was his first kill....wasn't it?” Twilight said after a few moments.

“How could you possibly know that?” Richard asked in a shocked tone.

“Somepony threw a portfolio on my head when I was trying to figure out who the killer was when Fluttershy killing ponies...the first picture was of a Pegasus....it's what made me accuse my friends of being the killers the first time around.” Twilight replied getting to all fours now.

“Lets head to your house then. The rest of you stay here. Keep an eye out for anypony coming from the prison. I don't care if it looks like me. Apprehend any who come out.” Richard said at which point every police pony nodded.

With that Twilight, Richard, Pinkie Pie, An Big Mac headed over to Twilight's house. They could only hope that looking over the portfolio again would give them the clues they needed to stop this killer once and for all....
