Bringing chaos, this was the only thing that Discord knew how to do. His name meant chaos, literally, look in up in the dictionary and you’ll find it! With Discord being a creature of chaos, that meant there would be others that would try to contain him, ahem, Princess Celestia and Princess Luna. They imprisoned the draconequus in stone for a thousand years. So of course when he was free, he had to, how to put this delicately, have some fun, yeah, something along the lines of that. While Discord was enjoying himself, he did notice something obscure. While he easily managed to trick the other five ponies who bore the elements of harmony, he could not say the same for one. No matter what tricks Discord pulled from his sleeve, the mare just politely rebuked everything. You have no idea how infuriating that was to him. Eventually he had to change her himself, but after that, Discord became interested with the yellow pony. His freedom was short lived however, he became stone AGAIN, so that ended any more observation, for the moment being. For a minute, the draconequus thought he would have to wait another 1,000 years for his next taste of freedom, but that would prove to be much sooner that he thought. Soon, Discord found himself back in Ponyville. Princess Celestia felt that Discord could be reformed, and used for good. Honestly, Discord would have seriously thought about it if she begged him to, but alas, that didn’t happen. Instead, Princess Celestia’s idea was to have the same ponies that imprisoned him be the ones to reform him! As much as he hated to admit it: it worked, all because of that same yellow pony. Fluttershy was the only one out of all of them all to give him something that he never thought he needed: friendship. Well now that you know that, let’s stop getting emotional and get to why you’re here. All that happened a while back. Fast forward to now, and Discord is living with Fluttershy. Although he’s had to tone down a little, wait, that’s not right, he had to tone down a lot; never mind that, the point is that they have been friends for a while. So when he discovered that today was Fluttershy’s birthday, he felt that he had to celebrate it in one way or another.
“Are you sure Discord? I can stay here with you if you want.”
“Spend your birthday, with me,” Discord replied, “I’m flattered Fluttershy, but I know you want to be with your friends, besides, they already planned so much for you.
It was important for Fluttershy to just be with her friends for two reasons: he was only like this around Fluttershy. He was a creature of chaos after all; he had a reputation to maintain! Secondly, this gave Discord enough time to find something to give to Fluttershy as a present. He could have just created something out of thin air, but it felt too easy; if Discord was going to give Fluttershy something, he was going to give her something that showed her how much he appreciated her as a friend. Whoa, did Discord really just say that? Maybe being with Fluttershy really is taking an effect on him!
“Well, okay then. Just promise me you won’t do anything while I’m gone.” Fluttershy said.
“Of course not Fluttershy! Your house will be exactly as you left it. This guy however I’m not so sure.” Discord said while nodding toward Angel.
He should have learned by now to not joke around with Fluttershy’s animals. A few minutes of continuous, “I’m sorrys” later, Fluttershy was off, and Discord was alone.
“Alright, you know the drill,” Discord said to Angel, materializing a bowl of carrots, “you don’t say anything to Fluttershy and these are yours.”
Rather than accepting the carrots, Angel stuck his head up in defiance. “You’re a feisty one aren’t you? Fine, I see you drive a hard bargain.” With that, Discord made the carrots disappear and instead materialized a salad like the ones Fluttershy made for him. With that, the bunny gladly accepted the bowl and scurried of into a corner to enjoy his prize. Now with Angel out of the way, Discord could take care of priorities.
Going to the Ponyville marketplace is a hassle all by itself, add the fact that you’re a draconequus, it’s nearly impossible! You can’t get five minutes into a conversation without somepony saying “Oh please don’t hurt me!” or “Don’t destroy my tent!” or his favorite, “Don’t turn my house upside down again!” Well he couldn’t blame them, but did everypony had to close their shop as soon as they could see him? It’s like they forgot that he was reformed; their loss, he could have become a frequent. When he thought that all hope was lost, there was one last stand that wasn’t closed, no matter how close Discord came! When the draconequus approached the merchant, the merchant simply asked how he could help him.
“So you aren’t going to close in front of my face? Like everypony else?”
“Well I sell to anypony who’s willing to buy from me, that’s all.” said the merchant, a little uneasiness found in his voice.
“Well in that case let’s have a look shall we?” Whilst looking through the merchandise, Discord made little remarks such as too sparkly or too dull to annoy the merchant, just for fun. Finally Discord found something adequate and so he gave the merchant the proper amount of bits and went off to Fluttershy’s cottage; she would be back any minute now, and he didn’t want to spoil her surprise.
It seemed that Discord came right in the nick of time; as soon as he entered, Fluttershy opened the door. Thank goodness she had a back door!
“Hi Discord, I hope that everything went well!”
“Of course, Fluttershy...can I ask for a minute of your time?”
“Sure, but why do you ask?”
“Well, as you know, today is your birthday, and I just wanted to give you something, a little thanks for everything you’ve done for me, letting me stay in your house, and you being my friend.” With that being said, Discord produced a small box, which enclosed what he bought from the merchant a little while back.
“Oh my, I don’t know what to say...thank you Discord,”
“What are you waiting for Fluttershy, open it!”
Fluttershy carefully opened the box, first untying the bow, then taking off the wrapping paper. When, she opened the box, she was at a loss for words.
“My goodness Discord...I-I don’t know what to say!”
