The Huntsman

Jacob Rivers was a reclusive man who chose a life of self-reliance alone in the woods. He had a homestead where he lived and prepared the various game he had killed in the woods. Often times he would help out local herdsman and ranchers who had any sort of pest problem, local being relative to a couple of miles away from the forest. He chose not to use guns as part of his code of self-reliance, he could not craft bullets and would not buy them, so instead he opted for a longbow, a spear/atlatl combo depending on his location, and oddly enough a rapier that is used to quickly end his hunts suffering. The sword was an heirloom given by his father and his father before him, and so on.

One day he was tracking a wolf that had been killing one of his "neighbors" flock of sheep. While searching for it he came across a strange creature that seemed to be part snake part. . . . everything else. The beast looked to him and suddenly appeared above him announcing, "Yes you'll do just nicely."

Then with a snap of its strange fingers a light appeared around Jacob, and in the very next moment he was alone but, the woods had completely vanished.
