As she waited for her train, she thought about the past week, graduating, visiting her family and now a place on an expedition! She was with a group of ponies on their way to an archaeological site in the old city, to see study a ruined library. Looking around at the others she reached up and fiddled with her mane to cover her sharp horn.

LATER

As the train rumbled along through the moonlit forest Dusk Glow sat by a window watching the trees zip past. She knew that she should be asleep by now but she just couldn't settle down  using her magic to take a notebook and pencil out of her saddle bags she began to write. This book was the latest in a long line of journals; this book had observations, notes and even personal entries in it. Opening the book she began writing about her day.

Day one of the expedition, night time

This morning we set off for, before boarding the train professor Dry Text gathered us together and went over the plan again. I am thankful for the job but he certainly lives up to his name! One white Pegasus almost fell asleep in midair! That said when the professor isn't teaching he is very nice, lively even if artifacts are involved. Anyway we are well underway and will reach our stop tomorrow morning then walk to the site.  However something about this expedition feels off, like something will happen soon, but I don’t know what.

THE NEXT DAY AT THE SITE

AFTERNOON

The sun shone brightly on the ruins of a large city, in the remains  of a big old library  many ponies  worked to find ancient treasures. Dusk was working in a side room with walls covered in bookshelves when a tile shifted under her hoof. looking down she pushed the tile aside, she had found a hidden chamber! Carefully searching the cubby she noticed a small chest tucked into a corner, the chest was wooden, four hooves long, three hooves wide and deep. lifting it out gently with her magic she noticed a latch and opened it up. inside the small chest were books, INTACT ANCIENT BOOKS! With a small squeal of glee she cast a shrinking spell on the chest putting it in her saddle bag. After searching the rest of the  room she went back to the rest of the team in the main room as they began heading back to camp.

On the way way back to camp everypony was excitedly discussing their finds when a growling was heard, looking around Dusk Glow noticed a rippled section of air that did not seem to match the air around it. Looking closer  she noticed a manticore on the other side! Spotting the group of ponies the beast came charging through the barrier to attack! Just as she was yelling a warning the white Pegasus mare from the day before reacted as well. the mare started giving orders to the group of ponies. “guards! Block that thing! the rest of you if you can help, if not get back to camp!” the mare yelled. At that command the group split, most running for it while Dusk joined the others as they tried to stop the manticore.
