It was a sunny day in Ponyville, birds were singing, wind blowing ever so gently through the treetops and the sound of hoof steps every now and then passing by the house. The town had that certain calm about it that Ponyville somehow, though its decent amount of citizens always seemed to have.

Of course there was the occasional highly stressed times, you never knew if an Ursa Major would come stomping down the town, or if a swarm of parasprites would come and eat… Well everything.

And yet any time something like that happened, it got resolved eventually.
And everypony who had been panicking one day, would just talk of the events with a relieved smile the day after.
This town was really something.

It was a Saturday afternoon. Fitting was free of work at the restaurant for the weekend, he had taken the morning to clean up a bit in the house while he was alone.

Almost the whole house was shining when he was done.
All of it except Silver’s room, and the cellar. Silver had told him long ago that he valued his privacy, and Fitting was not the type of pony who would spy on his roommate. The cellar and that room was Silver’s so he thought nothing of them.

Of course he was curious at times… Many times. But Silver was his best friend, and he wouldn't risk that for a sneak peek at his diary, no matter what juicy stories it might have in its bindings.

Fitting was just considering if he had the stamina to deal with cleaning the windows when he heard knocking on the door.
He trotted over and opened it to reveal Silver shore and one of his fellow guard colleges standing side by side at the entrance.

"Oh, hey Silver!" Fitting said with a smile widening across his face. Though his smile was short lived as his longtime friend showed no sign of happiness, or any emotion for that matter in his gaze.

The next thing he heard gave him a wondering and worried expression.
"Fitting, you’d better come with us."

"We’ve encountered a trespasser in Ponyville" Silver shore said with his gaze nailed straight forward.

"He has been vandalizing both public and private property, threatened civilians and guards alike. We took him under arrest and this is where you come into the picture."

Fitting was confused to say the least, he had no idea who this pony was, and he had even less of a clue as to why he would be involved.

"We’re here"

They were at the Ponyville guard station. Not a massive building, a bit bigger than the average house, but not as grand as the town hall. The house looked very “Manehattan”, so it stood out quite a bit from the other houses in Ponyville. It was colored with a blackish blue color, and had the Ponyville flag in the yard in front of it.

"Soo, why am I here? I have no idea who would do something like that, and if you already caught him what am I sus"--- Silver put up a hoof towards him and cut him off.
"When we got the culprit under control he told us he was here to find somebody"
Fitting was waiting for an explanation.

"He said he was searching for his older brother, though we have a hard time believing his description"

Fittings face went from his previous look of confusion, to a much paler look of chock as he started to understand who could be behind the walls.

"Whatever the name was he spoke, his description was quite exact. I quote 'A gray earth pony, with hair as blue as the sky *he was chuckling when he said that* and a cutie mark with a dirty piece of kitchen wear on it'!"

As he heard that Fittings hind legs gave up on him. His bottom fell to the floor and landed with a thud. His head was aiming straight
at the floor, his eyes were empty, he was completely wrapped in his thoughts at this point.

"Fitting? Silver was standing closer to his friend and with a hoof on his shoulder. His face was a bit friendlier now.

"We’re going to need you to confirm if you know him.

Fitting was sitting in silence for a while.

"I think I know who he is. He said weakly.
"I’ll identify him for you."

Just as he had suspected, there he was. Sitting in a chair, eyes closed with his head tilted down at the table, hind legs crossed and his forelegs in handcuffs at the table. He had certainly grown since the last time Fitting saw him. He had gained at least half a meter in height, his talons had grown big and sharp. His fur was still a dark shade of brown. His feathers had though gotten much darker than the cloud white feathers he used to have, the ones on his wings as well as the ones covering his head. His beak’s edges had been sharpened in true von Quill fashion.

"Yes, I know him"… Fitting had a very uncomfortable look in his eyes. As if he was trying to hold back tears, or hinder himself from throwing up.

"His… His name is Greg, Greg von Quill." Fitting said with a cold tone.

(von Quill)? Silver was sure he remembered that name from somewhere. He was standing in the same room, but the pony asking question was another guard.

"How do you know this griffin?

"He is, or was my brother. The oldest of all my younger siblings."

"Do you know why he wants to find you?

"I have absolutely no clue; I thought they would never bother searching for me, especially after all this time.

"How long ago was it since you were in contact with him or anyone else from the Griffin Kingdoms?

"7 years.

Silver was eagerly listening to every word being spoken. He had his role as a guardian on the outside. But he cared for his friend, and he had no idea something like this could happen, especially to Fitting. Keeping his mask on was a harder task than he had thought.

After about 5 minutes of questioning Silver started to notice the captive’s ears flickering, almost as if he was trying to eavesdrop on the conversation in the room they were in.

He didn’t think much of it though, he knew both rooms have had their walls soundproofed. And when he locked the captive at the table he had a glance at the one way mirror which clearly gave him nothing but his own reflection.

Then all of a sudden the griffin raised his head, opened his eyes slightly, and with a smug grin across his face he said:

"Well there’s a beat I haven’t heard in a looooong time, hello there dear brother."

All of the guards were in chock; they ran around checking if the microphone was on, windows, the door, cracks in the ceiling, every possible way sound could have gotten to the other room. But Fitting’s face just froze in a stern look
!Hello, brother.

Fitting turned to one of the guards, avoiding eye contact with Silver.
"Can I go in and talk to him?

The Major looked at Fitting with an uncertain look.
"Eh I guess so. But we need one of our guards to go with you.
"Captain Shore, you’re hereby assigned with keeping this citizens safety.

Fitting’s face gave of a brief twitch, but Silver caught it.
"Yes sir. Silver replied.

As they were walking out of the door, Silver grabbed the key to the interrogation room. The two of them walked the short distance across the corridor in silence. When Silver was just about to unlock the door Fitting put a hoof over his and with a very low but still sincere tone said:
"Silver, I…

Few were the times that Silver had seen his roommate in such a dragged down expression. Seeing him like that brought out the few bad memories they’d been through, as well as the good ones.

He remembered back to when Fitting had just moved in to the apartment, it had only been about a week or two and he had noticed that Fitting was really down. Like, extremely down.

It had made him think about the choice of letting Fitting be the one to move in with him. When he had put out the advertisement for the open room he had a couple of offers, some of the ponies seemed nice enough, he even had a mule come with an offer who had quite the sense of humor.

Though when Fitting first came by, Silver had just thought it was the right choice. He seemed like a stand up pony with good morals, which he appreciated both as a guard and by his own standards.

But now that he was acting this way, Silver thought that he might have chosen one of those ponies who went around depressed all the time.

He didn't want to have to be around that sort of pony all the time and the thought of maybe replacing him had even come to his mind.

But Silver did not want to be the sort of pony to judge someone just on a first impression. He had made a choice to leave his bitterness behind him. And he knew that to do it he needed to act differently than he was used to.

He knew of sadness, but he did not know what had happened to Fitting to make him this sad.

He collected a few words in his head beforehand and then went to see his new roommate.

He had caught him just when he was walking out of his room, he still had the gloomy look in his eyes. They were in the corridor and Silver was walking towards him, though he failed at the last second to speak, but Silver pulled his strength together and turned around.

"Eh, Fitting?
Fitting come to a stop and turned to Silver.

"Um, yes Silvershore? Is there something you need help with?
"No no, it’s nothing like that. Eh…

Fitting looked a bit confused at Silver before he spoke again.

"Look Fitting. You've seemed quite sad the last couple of days.

Fitting was a bit chocked. And with a more stressed tone than Silver was hoping for he almost rambled out:

"Oh, oh no I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to make you worried or drag you down with me… I, I just, I was..-

"Hey, hey! Easy ok? I didn’t mean it like that.

When Fitting started to breathe at a normal tempo again Silver continued:
"Look I just wanted to know why you’re sad, has something happened?

"Oh, um. Well… No, it’s stupid anyways. It’s nothing that important.

"You sure? You have been really actively moping around for a while now.

Fitting got a shameful facial expression,

"Sorry"…

"Don’t be sorry for being sad. It’s a natural emotion."

"Heh, sorry. Fitting said with a small smile being hinted on his face."

"Are you sure you don’t want to talk about it?"

"Hmmmm… It’s a long story."

"I have time."

There was a bit of a pause before Fitting finally spoke again.

"It’s… well, my… Special somepony"…

"We... Broke up."

"Ohh… I see"…

Crap, Silver was hoping this wouldn’t be the case. He had little experience in this matter. His old life in the griffin kingdoms had been packed so full of other events and duties he had never had time to get a girlfriend.
His new life in the guard was not really any better, the guard took up a good amount of time and energy. Though he surely enjoyed life in the guard more.

"Well, um, how long had you been together? If I may ask?"

"Oh it’s ok… We were just about to hit 3 months together. I had moved in with them 2 months ago, but then they said we could use some more time apart…

"That’s why I needed a new apartment. I was foolish enough not to get the point… Though in my defense they never said that we were breaking up"…

"Ok… so that is why you got so down first now?

"Well yeah… I finally got it 3 days ago…. I went to their apartment and caught them in a very intimate situation with someone else"…

"Ohhh. I’m so sorry.

"It’s…. fine. It’s their fault… I… It’s…

Silver could see the tears in Fitting’s eyes build up faster and faster. In the end he couldn’t keep them in anymore, they came pouring down his face like waterfalls.

Fitting’s back legs had collapsed in on themselves, he was sitting on the floor crying out his broken heart.

Silver felt guilty for being what had lead Fitting to feel this way, he was unsure what to do. But he pulled his mind together and walked calmly towards Fitting. He sat himself next to his weeping roommate, then he just raised his hoof and put it on Fittings back.

"Let it all out.

After some time of crying, Fitting had stopped himself, Silver was wondering if it was because he felt better or he didn’t want to cry in front of him.

"How’re you feeling?"

Fitting let out a small sniff.

Hmm actually, a lot better.

Silver could actually see a smile under the wet fur in his face.

"Silvershore".. –

"Look, you’re starting to get me bored with my own name, you could have started calling me Silver long ago."

By Celestia, he was actually laughing!

Fitting pulled himself away from his laughter.

"Heh.. Thank you, Silver, I feel much better now." Fitting said looking at Silver with the biggest smile he’d seen since that pink pony had welcomed him to Ponyville.

"Well you did most of the work you know."

"Yeah, but just having someone who care by my side felt amazing."

"And hey I bet there’re lots of mares in this town who’d be way better for you than one who’d cheat on you!

Fitting didn’t respond directly, he just sat and tilted his head down ever so slightly with the smile still intact.

"Hmm, I appreciate the thought Silver.
"I don’t know how I’ll do in the future, but right now I’m just happy to have a friend like you here.

"Any day.

"Look Silver, if you follow me in here you will most likely hear things about me that even I wish I hadn’t heard"…

"Fitting, whatever I find out about you now will be from your past correct?"

"Uhmmm, yeah."

"And you do remember that the past is in the past right?"

"Yeah I guess, but Sil"..-

"Shh, guards orders."

"…"

"Now, let’s go see what your brother has to say.

…..

"Don’t call him that.
