A Fitting Backstory
Chapter 3. A life once lived.
Previous ChapterThings had quiet down in the apartment. The day had been a lot to take in. What had started as a peaceful and bright morning had turned into very cold, dark night.
Fitting had boiled some tea water; he felt they both needed some to ease their nerves.
He stretched a cup to Silver, who accepted it quietly.
He went back into the kitchen and grabbed his own cup, and then sat himself down on the sofa next to the chair Silver was sitting it.
Long day… Fitting started, with a tone showing he was quite exhausted.
Hmmm… Silver sounded as he had the cup to his mouth.
Maybe we can take this tomorrow, if you’d rather get to bed? Silver suggested, he himself was kind of tired.
No, I… You know, with my memory I’ll probably forget half of what I want to say by tomorrow. I’d really like to tell you this now.
If that’s okay?
Silver looked at him with a small smile; Sure, Mr. Wrong turn.
Ha ha, it was one time…
It was 3 times. So far. Silver said managing a smile as he teased Fitting for his bad direction sense.
Yeah yeah, look we got where we were going in the end right?
Heh, yeah we did…
There was a bit of a small silence as the two of them enjoyed what seemed as the first smile the day had to offer.
So?.. What is this hidden background you have kept from me all this time?
Hmm, I’ve been trying to think of a good place to start everything…
And?
Well, I think the story won’t make sense if I don’t first tell you about my family.
So we’re going to be here for ages?
… Yeah kinda. Fitting said jokingly.
Well I’m all ears, you just start talking when you’re ready. Silver said as he leaned back with the cup in his hooves.
Heh, okay then, here we go…
__________________________________________________________________________
It started with the famous, or perhaps infamous family Von Quill.
The Von Quill family was the biggest griffin family in the Kingdom. They were, if not still are the biggest military force in the Griffin Kingdom.
They were a long line of proud griffins with an equally long list of military titles running through the bloodline.
And at this moment in time, my grandfather was the general of the Von Quill military forces, meaning he was the head of the family.
And he was a good leader too. He was talented at everything he did, he was the family’s face out and he was great at manipulating the media.
Was there not a story in the newspapers about the Von Quill’s greatness at least once every month he would announce the Von Quills’ would finance the construction of an orphanage, or a school, he even built a hospital during the great epidemic of the blue flu.
Shortly said, the people of the Kingdom adored the Von Quills.
But of course, nothing stays the same. The Von Quills were still on the top of important families in the Kingdom, but other families were catching up to their wealth.
There was another family of griffins, who were the lead jewel crafters in the land, among other families climbing their way up the ladder to power.
The politicians had always been high ups, but since the last battle the Kingdom had fought in was over 100 years ago, the people saw to them now more than to the military who had little do now.
On top of this there had been a significant increase in immigrants since the victory against the Minotaur’s all those years ago.
These factors worried my grandfather. He was not planning on losing his family’s position or status the last thing he did before his time was out.
But at this time it was highly unlikely that anyone would dare attack the Kingdom. So he saw another way: Marriage.
He himself was already married, but he had his children. My mother, Hilda Von Quill, was his firstborn child. So even though he had sons, he knew she would be the key.
Finding the right family to marry into was though a very hard task. He knew that most of the other griffin families were, like him, greedy. They would most likely try everything to get to the Von Quill’s treasures.
But my grandfather was a smart man. Some would say deviously smart.
He knew that the newly arrived immigrants were having a hard time in the very conservative Griffin Kingdom. Yet one family of unicorns had made themselves quite a name since their arrival years ago.
The Spark family was originally from the vast continent of Equestria. A land well-spoken of since the Alicorn controlling both the sun and the moon lived in its capital.
The Sparks had built themselves an impressive network of trade during their relatively short time in the Kingdom.
Ponies were known to be loyal, generous, and honest creatures. So this is where my grandfather saw his opportunity.
______________________________________________________________________
My father’s family was the Spark’s. The Spark family was some time ago closely related to the Sparkle family. But where the Sparkle family had stayed in Canterlot studying various types of magic, the Spark’s had moved to the Griffin Kingdom, pursuing trade.
My father’s name was Unique Spark. His parent’s named him for his unusual birth.
When my father was born, he already had his cutie mark. A Libra scale with a banner behind it. My grandparents’ were a bit worried at first, this was a very unusual circumstance when it came to foals. Sure some find their special talent much faster than others, but this was extreme.
But the doctors said that he was healthy as could be. And they shouldn't have to worry about his physical condition.
It didn't take long until it showed why he had his cutie mark that early. He excelled at learning the ins and outs of trading and reselling.
He memorized all the lessons his parents and teachers had told him on the first try. When he finished his education it didn’t take long with him in the lead until the Spark’s quite frankly owned the trade market in their city.
Then one day he was greeted by two griffins, both wearing armor with the emblem of the Von Quill stamped on it.
They came searching for his parents; who were on a business errand at the time, they said they had a letter to bring them. He offered to take the letter and give it to them when they returned. To which they declined, their orders were to bring that letter to his parent’s, and Von Quill soldiers never disobey an order in any way.
Luckily the two returned soon enough. The armored griffin’s handed over the letter, turned quickly and flew off.
When father asked them what the letter said they looked baffled and just told him
“We have been invited to dinner at the Von Quill estate.”
_________________________________________________________________________
Long story short: my parents were the foundation of the Spark von Quill family; in charge of the biggest army of the Kingdom, and also since their wedding, the biggest trading emporium known to date.
When my grandfather died, the duties of maintaining the Von Quill military fell onto my father. As previously stated, he had no issue with learning.
He had been taught how to be a general, how to finance an army, and how to keep a good position in the media.
How did he do as the new leader? Well… I suppose this is where I come in.
_________________________________________________________________________
My birth was, like my fathers, quite an unusual occasion. You see, normally when a griffin and a pony have a child together, their offspring usually becomes hippogriffs.
Yet, there I arrived, my mother a griffin, and my father a unicorn. And their firstborn child was purely an earth pony.
No wings, no beak, no talons and no claws. Just a baby earth pony with a mane as blue as the sky…
My family was worried something might be wrong with me, they took me to many different doctors, yet just like the case had been with my father, I was in peak physical condition for my age.
Eventually, the hunt for my deformation stopped. I’m unsure if they just decided to accept me for what I was, or if they thought it useless to keep looking for an answer.
Unlike my father though, I was born a blank flank. And when I reached an age appropriate for tutoring, no means were spared to train me to take over my father’s place.
It was about at that time when I got my first sibling. Greg.
Greg’s birth was mine reversed. Not a hippogriff either, instead a griffin.
In fact: all my siblings are pure griffins. It was as if I had taken all the pony genes from my father’s side, and all the griffin genes from my mother were split among my brothers and sisters.
Sadly, our genetics are probably the only thing my father and I had in common.
Whereas my father knew exactly what he wanted to do with his life, I had no clue.
He learned how to buy a rock with two bits and sell it for 10 as soon as he was able to talk. And I couldn't remember the right order of military ranks even after 4 months of rehearsing…
In the beginning I was taught by expert teachers that father had employed just for us kids in our education. Though, when finally the teachers had had enough and had given up on trying to teach me, father took their place in being my teacher.
I had private lectures with him once a day 6 days of the week. But it wasn't just one time he completely lost his temper and shouted me out for not being able to learn anything.
Anytime I failed an assignment, forgot the right answers, drifted off into my own mind, he would become furious. He couldn't believe someone as idiotic as me could actually be a direct descendant of his.
All that pressure was slowly building up in me. It was many times that I was sent to my room in tears because I’d failed yet another task.
And as I grew older, all that pressure was building up inside me.
And I’m pretty sure that, if it wasn’t because I had one certain pony in my life, I wouldn't be here today. But, he wasn’t actually a pony, he was a zebra.
_________________________________________________________________________
His name was Zecero, he was the head chef of the Spark von Quill estate.
I first met him when I was still quite young.
It was after one of my first lectures with father, it was one of the times my inability to learn had irritated him to the point of yelling me out of the classroom. I can’t remember why I didn't just go straight to my room that time, maybe I was full of thought and wasn't paying attention to where I was going at all.
When I snapped back to reality, I found myself lost, in my own home.
I managed to keep my cool, and I decided to search for my way back.
After walking around for quite a while I found myself smelling an amazing aroma! I started taking faster steps to where the smell came from.
And suddenly I was at the service entrance to the kitchen. I just stood at the door with my eyes closed taking in the different aromas and sounds coming from what to me, was a quite strange place.
I decided to peek my head in and have a look; I wasn't expecting that anyone would see me.
Then out of nowhere, he showed up. He was a big, and muscular zebra. I had never seen anyone like him before. Then all of a sudden he turned and saw me.
I got startled when he did, so I very quickly hid behind the door. Then I could hear hoofsteps coming towards me, I was really worried but didn't know what to do.
Then; all of a sudden, I heard the warmest laugh I've ever heard as he moved the door so he could see me, then he said:
Now, now, don’t be so shy! You little one with hair blue as the sky!
I was quite shocked at his words and tone; I was raised in a high society griffin family. I had been taught a lot, yet I knew nothing of zebras or their culture.
All I could manage to get out were some muffled random sounds.
He just smiled to me and continued:
Now I know everyone here, yet never seen you before, who are you small stallion, what brings you to my door?
At this point I’d collected myself enough to speak somewhat normally.
Ehh, I… M-m-my name is.. Finnith… I was just walking around and then I got lost… Then I could feel something smelling really good, so I came here.
A young one with good taste, pleasure to meet you! My friends call me Zeke, so that goes for you too!
I just stood there, and I think I was smiling.
Now say little one, you in a hurry away? Or would you like a tour of the inside, what do you say?
Oh, yes please!! Oh, ehh I mean… I’d love to, really, but I have to get to my room now, I shouldn’t stay away for too long…
He only gave me another one of his sun-warm smiles and said:
Of course little Finnith, I won’t keep you away. But do you know the right path now? I don’t want you astray.
Oh I… I think I know how to get back. Ehh this is the kitchen right? I could navigate myself easily if I were at the main entrance to it!
Hah! Such big fancy words from someone so little and blue! Now then little Finnith, shall I show the way through?
I smiled and nodded.
The kitchen was not small, nor was it enormous. Unlike the dining hall, this had three tables long enough to sit about 20 ponies next to each other on each side.
When we’d walked through the hall we were at the entrance, and I must have lost track of time more than I thought, for as soon as we were there I met my mother and most of my siblings with her, it was already dinner time without me noticing.
Zeke looked to her and at the sight of her he graciously bowed his head and said:
Ah Mrs. Von Quill, a pleasure bumping in to you like this, may I introduce you to-
Now Zecero, you need not introduce me to my own son! Where have you been Finnith? When you weren’t in your room we got worried!
Hah yeah, we all got sooooo worried. Greg muttered with his usual snarky attitude.
Sorry mother, I got myself lost after my lecture with father… But I met Mr. Zeke here, and he helped me get back on track!
Oh? He did? Well Zecero I owe you my thanks for helping my son in his time of need.
Oh, no no. There is no need to thank me Mrs. Von Quill. Helping your son was the least I could do, and he is a great company as well, so it was my pleasure.
Zeke’s voice had such an immediate change from his rhyming verses, to a much more formal and stiff speech, I had as hard a time getting used to that as his rhymes.
Well then, what do you say Finnith?
Oh, thank you so much for the help Mr. Zeke; I’d still be lost without your help!
Haha, please little blue, just Zeke is enough. Mister is a title that’s way too tough!
My mother gave me a quick nod and started again:
It will only be us today Zecero.
Right Mrs. Von Quill, what about Mr. Von Quill? Should I have some delivered to his study?
No no, he says he’ll eat later.
Okay then, right this way.
Zeke then lead us to our usual dining seats. Farthest edge on the middle table was reserved for the Von Quill family. The middle table was for guests of higher importance
The two other tables were for our more “casual” visitors.
When most of us were near finished, father joined us. And when everyone was ready to go, he told me to stay and talk to him.
It was the usual lecture about how important it was that I learned my subjects since I would become the leader of the Von Quills one day.
I told him I understood and I would try harder next time.
But as we were leaving the dining hall, Zeke stopped us.
Excuse me, Mr Von Quill. But I heard you two talking and understand your son here has some trouble with getting things to stay in his head?
Eavesdropping, Zecero?
My apologies sir. I did not mean to cause any harm, I rather think I might be able to help you.
Fine, I’ll listen, so what do you mean you can help?
Well sir, I’ve learned through many encounters that ponies are all different and all very special, that goes for how they learn too. Little Finnith here might just not be cut out for this sort of learning.
Your point being?
Well, maybe I can try to teach him? I know many different methods that might work better for him to remember what he’s taught.
Mm hmm, so tell me, do you have any military knowledge? Or trading skills? Do you know how to tell if a situation is an opportunity or an ambush?
No sir….
But he does. Zeke said as he pointed to me.
Dad looked at him confused.
Your son is not dumb sir. All the knowledge from your tutoring is still in his head. I might just be able to help him get to it.
And you intend to do this how, exactly?
Finnith. Zeke said and turned to me.
Do you think you could take notes from your classes? And after they’re done, you can come back here?
Ehhh I… yes, yes I could do that.
Good! So if he takes notes, then he comes here, I’ll go through it again with him.
... Do you really think this will help?
I’m sure of it sir.
Father looked pondering for a while. He then continued.
Why are you this interested in helping Finnith?
Hmm, well sir. I can see great potential in him. Just by looking at him I can tell that he will master his future, but only by fighting in his present.
The moment was tense; it felt like you could cut the air with a knife.
Alright Zecero. I’ll give this idea of yours a chance.
Finnith, you will come here the day after tomorrow, after your history lesson. Understand?
Yes father.
Good, go to your room now.
I went to my room, with a huge grin on my face.
My extra tutoring with Zeke saved my education, sorta. I don’t know how he knew all his tricks, but he put all the things I had written on my notes in such a different light and angle I felt like I was learning something completely different.
Yet, the next day, when I had my tests with father, I had 56 % of the right answers!
Heh… I guess 56 % sounds like a joke, so you could imagine how my answers looked before that…
Zeke was my hero; he was smart, strong, funny, loving, and always kind to everyone.
On days when we didn’t have to study we’d go out to the capital and he’d show me around town, he introduced me to his friends, and he showed me a youth center in town that had other kids my age. It was amazing! I had been studying the world from my house for so long but I didn’t have any experience with it.
After a while I started going out by myself, I went to the youth center more often, I actually got friends,
And for that time, things were looking like they were getting better.
But… Nothing stays the same.
My grades had improved by Zeke’s help, immensely. Yet… I never really got good at being neither a military leader, nor a skilled tradesman. I knew the basics and the advanced. But When I was to implement them by myself I couldn’t get them in the right order in my head. I would mix up my tasks, and forget my objectives half way through.
So even though I was better, I still wasn’t good.
I remember, I used to go to the kitchen all the time and talk to Zeke, or just to watch him work. He was a master at his work, seeing him flipping pans, adding ingredients, mixing spices, it was like watching a dance. Every move made, every pan stirred, and every plate served was an amazing display.
A couple of times I got to help him, those were the times in my childhood I felt most alive! I felt amazing, cooking was tricky at first, but I got the hang of it relatively quickly. When I held a pan, I felt in control. I when cooked I had full control over my body. I could see instantly when something had to be flipped, or stirred, I knew whare everything in the kitchen was. Spatulas, spices, and our many ingredients, I knew it off the back of my hoof.
So I had my ups, and downs, but... my horrible story starts with me hitting puberty…
I was 14 years old. I wasn't an adult yet, but long time since I could be considered a child. But there I was, a 14 year old, still struggling with learning, and a blank flank.
I still had my lectures and classes, but with little improvement. I was just average in every aspect of learning. I knew all the most important points, but lesser things about my schooling disappeared instantly, making it so I never got above a middle grade.
Then...
I met someone… Yes I had gotten a big crush of someone I met at the youth center.
We just met and started talking to each other, it was great, we had similar interests, both of us liked cooking, loved sappy romantic movies, and we both had a corny obsession with mini golf… At first I thought we were just really close friends.
But, after some time, I knew I had fallen.
I was so incredibly nervous I couldn't think straight when we were together. I had no idea what I would do, so the only thing I could think of was to ask Zeke what I should do.
When I told him, he shone up like the sun. He hugged me tighter than ever,
.
Ahh congratulations my little blue! You’ve finally found someone who’s right for you!
Hahaha thank you Zeke, but.. I’m…
Now what’s the matter? This is great to hear! Finding some love is nothing to fear!
Well, it’s just… It’s my best friend…
Wait do you mean, ohhhh…
Zeke looked a bit thoughtful, then told me to come with him to his room, we sat in a couple of chairs, and we started talking.
So little blue, are you worried about a friendship?
Ahh, yes…
Well, don’t you trust them?
What? Of course I do!
And you said you’re friends, right?
Well, yes... best friends.
So why worry?
Well… What if they don’t want to be my friend after I confess how I feel?
See this is where trust comes in.
Huh?
My dear little blue, a real friend wouldn't leave you for something like that. If they feel like you do, you’ll be a couple and friends, but if they don’t, you’ll be a couple of friends.
Zeke’s words made everything clear in an instant, he was right, if we were really friends, we would be in no matter what!
So, I called, and said we needed to talk… I was just outside our main entrance waiting. And even though I kept repeating what Zeke had said, I was so nervous I could barely think straight. But, that was nothing compared to when I finally saw him walking towards me.
His dark green coat, scruffy dark red mane, and really bright yellow eyes.. My heart stopped, and I froze in place as I watched him walk up towards me.

Wait, wait, wait….. His? Him?
Ehh Fitting, do you mean you’re?...
Uhmmm Silver, we’ve lived in the same house for two years…. You notice this now!???
But?! How… When??
Well, as you can hear from my story, quite a long while.
But, wait, what about Marice?
Marice? What about her?
Well… You were on that cruise ship together, and that dance?
Ahh, yeah Silver, we danced, we weren’t tongue wrestling the entire night…
Look, don’t get me wrong, Marice is one of, if not the best mare in Ponyville,
She’s one of my best friends, and I love her like a sister.
But, she even has a coltfriend!
But… How can I’ve missed this for all this time??
Heh, well, I’m not too surprised really, you had to have Cracker practically force you onto your first date with Cookie.
Haha ha.
Sorry..
Well, I guess I haven’t been much active on trying to find someone since I moved in with you.
Or rather, since I found Caramel in bed with Berry Punch…
Oh so it was you and Caramel?
Yeah?
Hmmm, I probably owe Berry Punch an apology..
Wait, what did you do?
Well, you seemed very upset at both of them back then, sooooo I kinda, maybe, had Berry Punch’s fruit stand confiscated for suspicion of containing illegal substances…
Wait, what???
Well, I thought she’d hurt you…
That is… One of the sweetest things you’ve ever done for me…
Huh?
Well, you certainly show affection a tad differently than most ponies. But I guess that, according to my Silver – English dictionary, that means; never hurt my friend again.
Yeah.. But still, I’ve never.. I mean, you’ve never seemed like you’d have those feelings for me.
Huh, oh no. We don’t match like that Silver.
Oh ok… Hey why not?
Hahaha, ahh.. Well, it’s… It’s not that you’re not great Silver, you’re the best friend a pony could ask for but, it’s just…
Ehh it’s like, we could be a good set up, but it’s like.. Our polarities are different. Does that make sence?
I understand completely.
Heh good.
Uhm, should I continue the story?
Oh yeah, sorry.
\ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \
Well… Eventually he got up to me, and I was just standing there. My brain had shut down completely. All was just staring at him, and all I heard was a white buzz. And buzzes don’t have colors… So you can imagine what that felt like…
I snapped back to reality when he tried to talk to me.
Ehh Finnith, you don’t look so good, are you feeling alright?
Huh… AHH! Ehhh I, Sorry! Sorry.. Ehh..
Youuuu, are acting really strange… Even for you, that is.
Oh ehh, am I? Hah, haha, I didn’t notice..
Are you sure you want to meet up today? You seem like you could need some serious rest, I could go, and come back tomorrow.
No, don’t leave me!
When I heard what I’d just said I put my hooves over my mouth and turned so red looked like a tomato.
Ehh, ok, I’ll stay…
Finnith, what’s this all about?
I... ahhhh.. Look, Skillet, do you want to come inside?
Ok.
It was a painful walk. I tried to be somewhat of a host and showed him some of the rooms we were walking by. Every step felt like I stepped on a knife…
Eventually we got to my room, I showed him in, then sat myself on my bed. Skillet sat down on the other end of it.
So?
So…
Finnith, I think I know what this is about…
My jaw dropped to the floor as my eyes widened.
You.. You do!?
Yes, you’ve been acting strange for some time now.
Oh.. It’s been that obvious?..
Yes it has, you’ve started to avoid me ever since the 80’s themed dance at UC.
UC was the youth center I was talking about, United Center, lame name, so we all called it UC.
I… wasn’t avoiding you…
Don’t even try that Finnith!
You haven’t been to UC for weeks, you don’t answer the door, you make up excuses not to meet every time I get ahold of you. It’s obvious you don’t like me anymore.
WHAT!? NO!!!
Nice try, you’re mad because I forced you to dance with me and I embarrassed you in front of all our friends.
No!! No, that’s not it at all!
No? Then what is it?
It’s just…
I’m listening.
It’s…
.
.
.
It’s not you… It’s me…
Huh?
You’re right in one thing… It was that dance…
Mhmm.
Before that, everything was perfect… I was doing okay in school, I got to try new activities I liked, I had managed to get friends, and I’d got the best friend in the entire Kingdom… A friend I felt closer to than anypony else, a friend I could share my secrets with, a friend.. Who I knew would stay with me no matter what happened…
And then… He takes me for a dance…
I get to swing myself around the dance floor with him, get to move close to him, feel the music beat in both of us, I get to look into his shining yellow eyes… And I try to, with all my strength, I try to resist it. But with every turn, every step, every swing, I just feel myself fall more and more in love…
Wait Finnith, did you just say?..
Yes… I tried to hold it back, I tried to force it away. But I can’t… I love you.. I feel it every time my heart beats. I love you…
Finnith…
.
.
.
.
.
You are the bravest pony I’ve ever known of.
Huh?
I can’t believe how much strength you had to pull together to tell me this. Way more than I ever had.
What do you mean?
I would never have been brave enough to say something like this, which is, well, why I haven’t.
I don’t understand…
Well, I could never tell you how I felt. I thought about telling you, many times. But I could never bring myself to go through with it. So I did the next best thing I could think of.
That’s one of the reasons I love going to romantic movies with you. It made me feel like we were on a date… Or whenever we went for ice cream, which you can’t eat without making a mess.
And that’s why I asked you to that dance… I knew that that was the closest I could ever come to you without…
Telling you I love you too.
Can you ever forgive me for using dirty tricks like that?
He barely had time to finish his sentence before I had thrown my arms around him.
I was laughing out of tears of joy, he was laughing too. I had never been that happy ever in my life. It felt like there could be nothing in the entire world that could be better than that moment.
Then...
He kissed me…
All those emotions I had were still there, but they had gone in the back of my head, I was just in that moment. And for a second in time, nothing could go wrong.
.
.
.
.
.
.
Then, the door to my room opened…
And there stood my father…
Father!
He said nothing. Just slowly turned out of the room, and walked away.
When he’d left I just stood there, I could feel the walls of reality slowly crumble and fall around me.
I was locked in a never ending downwards spiral. Then, Skillet put his forearms around me.
Take it easy Finnith, he’s your father. He was probably just a bit of a surprised, that’s all.
I bet he’s happy you’ve found a very special somepony.
...Yeahhh, you’re probably right.
Biggest lie of my life. I knew something was not right, but I didn’t want to spend a second thinking of what it could be.
Let’s just… Enjoy the moment for now. I said giving him a smile.
Hmm ok. Well then, let’s pick up where we got interrupted; which I distinctly remember was with you kissing me back.
I tried my hardest to make time move slower, yet, the hours kept running away. When evening had come, I begged Skillet to stay the night…
I never wanted to let go of him.
Relax Finnith, I’ll see you tomorrow. Promise you’ll come to UC when you’re done with school, ok?
I promise, and you promise to be there, right?
He gave me a tight hug and said “I promise”…
I went straight to bed and tried to get to sleep as soon as I possible, but I couldn't sleep.
I was up until 2 am clinging to one of the pillows that was still coated in his scent.
The following day I was incredibly nervous. I had my usual class on military tactics, and father didn't seem any different from how he usually acted.
When school was done I galloped to UC faster than I ever had before.
I desperately searched for Skillet but couldn't find him anywhere.
I tried to ask my friends if they’d seen him… They all avoided me.
Guys please! I need to find him!!
Go away Finnith…
We don’t want to get deported too..
Deported?!
I turned and ran straight to Skillet’s house. My legs were aching, throat dry, vision blurry, but I just ran.
But as soon as I got to his house.. It was empty… No furniture, no decorations, the whole house, completely empty.
It was too much, too great a devastation to handle. My head became light; my knees weakened, then I just collapsed on the doorstep.
I woke up a couple of hours later, still in front of Skillet’s empty house. I rose up, hollow.
There was nothing. I couldn't hear any birds, couldn't feel the wind, and couldn't feel the ground beneath my hooves. I couldn't feel anything, and I didn't want to.
I just started walking back home. I don’t remember if it took me minutes, or hours. I had no grasp of what was happening around me. I just walked.
When I got home, mother was extremely worried about me, I think. I still didn’t register sound; words were nothing but a mash of noises.
I tried to get to my room, but Zeke got a hold of me before that.
He was really worried about me, and I knew he only meant well, but I couldn’t stay to explain.
Though he knew I hadn’t eaten all day, so he almost forced me to eat something so my body wouldn’t crash.
After that I went to my room, I laid myself in my bed, and I hoped I would fall asleep and never wake up again.
But when I lied down, I heard something under my pillow. It was a letter, it was also the last thing I ever heard from Skillet.
My dear Finnith, I hope to Celestia this letter gets to you.
You were sadly right, as soon as I got back home almost all my house was already packed.
Both my dad and mom have been reassigned to a different town here in the Kingdom. And I don’t get to know which one.
They told me I had half an hour to pack what I needed in my room before we left, but I’m writing this instead.
I know you Finnith, and I know you will blame this on yourself. But, please don’t.
If I didn’t ask you to that dance, this would probably not have happened. But if I hadn’t, I wouldn’t have gotten to be with the one I love most in the world. Even if it was only for a day, I will always treasure it.
Your life won’t be easy Finnith, you are going to encounter times when you want nothing more than to give up. But I’m begging you, please fight. Never give up. If not for you, do it for me.
Please... Live!
I love you Finnith. Always have, always will.
// Your Skillet.
I spent the rest of that night crying…
And that’s…
That’s the whole story?
… No, but… I really can’t keep going anymore… You know the basic story now… I’ll…
Tell you the rest some other time.
Ok, if that’s what you want to do.
By Luna, what time is it?
Close to 3 am.
Wow…
Yeah.
Sorry for making you sit through my intensely long story…
Don’t apologize, if I didn’t want to hear it, I wouldn’t have stayed.
Heh, yeah I guess.
Fitting, I see how your life must have been in the Kingdom. And I get that this whole thing with inheriting something this massive from that part of your life must be horrible.
Yeah… It is…
I’ll be here to help you in every way I can. But, can we please get some sleep first?
Hah… I really like the sound of that.
Good, I’ll see you tomorrow.
Silver.
Yeah?
Thank's for sticking with me. You're the best.
Always here for you. Good night.
Night.
