My Little Pony: Spike's Time Off
Spike has been Twilight's little assistant ever since he was hatched. Although the baby Dragon was loyal and a good brother/friend to Twilight, sometimes or more often than not, Spike gets overworked, left behind, etc. He was feeling a bit mistreated. Things changes after the defeat of Lorcan as the baby Dragon has defeated his brother in combat.
Spike was busy doing his thing when Twilight calls her adopted brother in, wanting to have a word with him.
"So Twilight, what is it you wanted to talk to me about?" Spike asked off in what Twilight wanted to say to him.
"Spike, I've been thinking about something, & it's concerning your part in it?" Twilight spoke with sounding somewhat in sorrow, but calm & serious tone.
"Oh no, don't tell me I did something wrong and you're upset about it!" Spike yelped in thinking that he did something wrong to be getting a lecture.
"No, quote the opposite. You’ve been through a lot, from helping with my needs, plus the Crystal Empire stunt, and from when you fought Lorcan." Twilight held up a hoof to calm Spike, stating the good things, nothing bad.
"Okay, so where are we going with this?" Spike calmed down in seeing he's not in trouble, but what was this about?
"I've decided that you need some time off for all your help that deserves it." Twilight smiled in wanting to give Spike a nice gift, much to the baby dragon's confusion.
"In short Spike, you getting a vacation." Phobos slyly pointed off the quickest way for Spike to get the picture.
"A vacation," Spike responded a bit surprise; it's his first time hearing that word with him involved.
"That's right, mommy believes that you need it Spike." Nyx nods with a smile that her brother of her family needs time off.
"By the way, when was it you had time-off or a vacation to do whatever you wanted to do?" Ben Mare asked off in asking when Spike last had a vacation to relax & have fun.
"Oh that's....no wait, that was Twilight. Well there was...no, that wasn't it. No wait, got it! It was....nah; that was for the Princess." Spike was trying to think up when he last had a vacation, but in truth...he really hasn't experience it himself. "I guess in truth, I never had a vacation to take time off to goof off. I've always just been a helpful assistant." He shrug off in giving his answer for all.
"So ye're sayin', ye never took a vacation on yer own?" Applejack raised an eyebrow in what she's hearing from Spike here.
"I suppose when we took time off, Spike was only with us, but he never had much time relaxing on his own." Rainbow Dash thought off for a moment in guessing what happened with them at the time.
"Holly-Cake-Droppings; not going off to have fun on anypony's own vacation for happy & excitement is like not throwing a surprise party!" Pinkie Pie yelped in thinking the horrible outcome of it all.
"Oh dear, not having any time to relax must be stressing on one's self!" Rarity yelped to gasp at such things to go through.
"Well, at least now, Spike can happily spend his first real vacation to do whatever he wants. Um...if that's okay," Fluttershy shyly stated in thinking they agreed on the subject...kinda.
"Well as long as he doesn't go through another greedy dragon trait, I'm good with it." Twilight reminded Spike who made a sheepish smile of being greedy on his birthday that made one out of control dragon issue.
"But still, what should I do on my own spare & deserving time off. I don't know what to do or where to start off on my own vacation." Spike shrug off his shoulders in not having any thoughts on how to spend his vacation.
"Boy, aren't you hopeless?" Phobos rolled his eyes in hearing Spike say such things, which earn a frown from the baby dragon to glare at this guy. "If you want some advice, why not head on off for Dragon Shores?"
"Dragon Shores," Everybody responded off in hearing this with surprised eyes of puzzlement.
"What's that Phobos?" Nyx asked her pet pal in what such a place this Dragon Shores was.
"Eh, before I was in the Army of Tadaka, much of us Dragons love to go to that place. It's where we relax, kickback, enjoy sun, surf, sand-building, a regular beach fun time. Why last I was there was...." Phobos was explaining the nice stuff of the place that be great for vacation time, but when he tried to recall his last visit....he was left surprised upon realization. "Hugh, almost about a thousand or so years ago before I got stuck in the moon with the other jerky Moon Dragons." He hasn't been to Dragon Shores in so long, now he was surprise to learn the news.
"Then shoot, ‘dat there sounds like 'de perfect place fer Spike to getaway fro' all 'de hard stresses?" Applejack smiled in thinking they got an answer here.
"Ge girls, that's nice and all, but are you sure?" Spike asked off if this was oaky with everyone here?
"Spike, everypony has respect & appreciation for you now, & are giving you your needed space. You should totally go for this." Rainbow Dash noggin Spike's head in stating the little guy should do this.
"Rainbow Dash makes a good point Spikey-Wikey, after all, you deserve this as much as any pony or Dragon for that matter." Rarity nods in upmost sincere thought about Spike's need for time off from work.
"Still, would you all miss me if I was away?" Spike asked off in wondering, would he be missed if he was away.
"Well of course we would, and when you get back, we can throw you a 'Welcome Back Surprise Party' on your return." Pinkie Pie smiled in stating what they do for their little pal when he returns.
"But, when would he be back?" Nyx asked off in thinking that they don't know when Spike return from his vacation time off, it could be a week or a month.
"Don't know, we'll just throw it when he does." Pinkie Pie shrugs off to happily state this answer which earn many strange reactions from the others.
"Well, that was randomly selected." Rainbow slowly responded in what the pink pony just gone and did there.
"Still, we can help you get ready if you want to...of course, if you don't want us to bug you, that's fine." Fluttershy shyly requested that they help Spike pack for such a trip, but if he doesn't need their help, then they won't mind.
"No, no, I never said that, it's just....I'm kinda experienced in my lonesome travels, I just don't wanna make you worry so much about me." Spike held up his arms in stating how he's experienced travels before, it's that when he leaves, he may make his friends & the citizens miss him.
"Spike, no matter what, you have a home here with us and with those of your friends and family." Twilight smiled to nuzzle her head on Spike's cheek side in letting the baby dragon know this.
Spike smiled from feeling some form of love and appreciation in the air before looking around. After a brief moment, he let off a sigh of relief breath before looking taller than ever.
"Okay, then I better get ready to pack up then for my first Vacation Trip!" Spike nods in understanding this and prepares to get himself ready now.
"Not alone you ain't," Phobos interrupted to state a surprise twist here.
"What do you mean?" Spike asked off confused, where was Phobos going off on this?
"I'm coming along too. What? You need a guide, and I need a vacation after so long, so it's a win-win." Phobos stated that while Spike's on vacation, he'll take one too while giving a guide around Dragon Shores.
"I don't know." Spike scratched his head in being unsure about Phobos being a guide for him.
"If it's okay with you Spike, I'll help in the travels; my Triforce Magic can get us there & back to save much travel." Ben Mare offered to give the dragons here the chance to get to the spot for the vacation that they both want.
"Really Ben, but...what about Twilight, Nyx and everyone else," Spike responded surprised, but will this stallion be fine coming along.
"No sweat, besides, I...gotta get some materials from that shore place for some of Twilight's experiments, plus maybe get some souvenirs for everypony?" Ben Mare held up a hoof to say all is fine, and while he's at the place, he'll pick up stuff for those that want souvenirs, etc.
"Well okay." Spike shrug off his shoulders in seeing if this guy wants to come along, who's he to argue about it?
While Spike went back to continue packing, everyone else watched him. Then Twilight came near Ben's ears to silently speak to him.
"You wanna go to just make sure he doesn't get into trouble?" Twilight ushered under her voice of concerns in what her love is actually thinking about doing.
"Yeah, it'll be his first vacation, and if some mean Dragons or some enemies try to ruin it for him, it'll be hard on him. Don't worry, I'll be fine, you know that, right?" Ben assured Twilight that he'll be fine and he wants to make sure Spike has a nice vacation...without much problems as possible even.
"Yeah, thanks Ben." Twilight smiled in feeling thankful that Ben Mare was thinking for her surrogated little brother here.
Soon Spike has gathered enough of his supplies (and so did Phobos while Ben Mare packed light) to be all set. The Mane Six, CMC, some of their other friends gathered around near the outskirts of Ponyville. This was something much of the crowd found surprising to hear that Spike, the baby dDagon that saved them from his evil brother Lorcan, is leaving to go on vacation. Many didn't know what they do if the little Dragon would leave, but it was explained that Spike needed some R&R time, and he's heading for Dragon Shores to get some.
"Yew think Spike would be okay?" Apple Bloom asks her friends in concern.
"He should. After all, Spike has gotten into some crazy trouble before." Dinky Doo remarks with a giggle. "Plus, Ben and Phobos will be with him."
"Here's hoping that Spike would be all right." Cheerilee said to Big Macintosh with a nod.
"Shucks, the little feller will be all right. As long as no one tries to hurt him done," Big Macintosh remarks with a nod.
"Sister, you sure you don't wanna come with him?" Sweetie Belle ask Rarity, wondering why the mare chose not to come with Spike.
"Now, now, this is Spike's vacation, not mine. I will only be slowing him down." Rarity insists to her sister with a giggle. "Besides, I will give him another 'vacation', if you know what I mean."
"I don't think I wanna know about that."
"Okay, I'm all set!" Spike spoke off from finishing the last packing of his things.
"So am I, I'm hoping to have packed enough snacks!" Phobos stated from checking his back for the package of snacks he has stash away.
"Why, doesn't that place have food?" Spike asked confused why they need snacks when the place they are going should have plenty of food.
"Yeah, but I could get extra hungry during the trip." Phobos responded to say this was for the trip, which made Spike almost face-fault.
"Okay you guys, hop aboard." Ben Mare instructed these two little Dragons to get on his back already.
Soon Spike and Phobos climb up after setting their sattle bags on Ben's back since he was carrying their travel needs, including the stallions own. Once the two dragons sat on this pony, it was shown that he wasn't having problems holding on to such weights, considering the Power hthat is Triforce Cutie Mark grants him.
"Ye'll hav fun now, ye hear!" Applejack spoke off in wanting the group here to have some fun while they are away.
"Rock out there for me, you guys," Rainbow Dash pumped up her hooves in wanting Spike & these guys to have a fun time.
"Um, stay safe?" Fluttershy shyly spoke meekly about these groups having to stay safe during their stay at their shore place.
"Throw a party while you're there." Pinkie Pie bounced around to throw sprinkles of party flavors all over, why she did that is anyone's guess.
"And do so see if there are any gems nearby, I might just use them in my next line of work." Rarity requested that if they go, to bring back some nice gems, Dragon Shores must have loads of them, even if those are meant to be eaten.
"Take care, all of you, especially you Spike!" Twilight spoke to come up near Ben to wish Spike the best of his time.
"It's okay Twilight, I'll have a great time there, but I will be back." Spike nods with a smile in saying he'll be back soon, she'll see.
"And if we got to, we'll drag him home." Phobos issued off to say what they do if Spike was not compelling to come home.
"Phobos," Nyx sternly scold her pet pal for even suggestion such a thing.
"What! Just a suggestion," Phobos looked lost in what he did or said wrong.
"Boy, these two dragons are comedians." Ben Mare rolled his eyes in seeing that watching over Spike & Phobos, even if this was Spike's vacation, will be a handful.
"Take care Ben, I'll see you when you return with Spike." Twilight spoke to her love with much thought on his return while watching over the baby Dragon.
"I will." Ben nods with an honest smile to not let Twilight worry.
"Also, watch for any action Phobos might try." Twilight secretly whispered that Ben should keep an eye on Phobos if he causes any mischief.
"Believe me, I will." Ben Mare nods while trying to contain the urge to chuckle on that comment.
"All aboard the pony train!" Phobos announced off in feeling raring to go now.
"Bye everypony!" Spike waved off his hand for all the ponies to see, he's about to head off.
"Okay, here goes...." Ben Mare slowly spoke as he closed his eyes, and then...his cutie mark began to shine, "Triforce - Warp Gate!" He spoke off in announcing this out of nowhere here.
"Thruspvhmmm...." Suddenly to many other ponies’ surprises, something formed in front of Ben's party that looked like a golden triangle figure of his cutie mark with the center being the entry point. "Wrsupvhmmm-Brisipsvhmm...." Then once Ben, Spike & Phobos walked through it, did the portal flash before vanishing before the crowds. Many were amazed to see such an advance teleportation spell; a 'Warp Gate' travel spell really is the best way for travel in their minds.
"Man, Ben's magic to even transport himself and any of us seems to have gotten better." Rainbow Dash smiled in quoting how seeing that pony do a spell that good, was definitely something out of this world.
"Boy howdy, it has. He's been learning a few new stuff during his spare time." Applejack nods with a smile in seeing that Twilight's special pony got some nice new stuff to be using now.
"Oh, I wonder what surprise he'll show next." Pinkie Pie perk up in pondering what other stuff Ben Mare has to show them from his Element: The Triforce.
While this went on, some of the Mane Six began to notice how Twilight seemed the most quiet out of everyone that was all chatty.
"Twilight darling, are you well?" Rarity spoke with concern in seeing her friend was not looking as active after Spike left.
"Yeah, I guess I'm just missing Spike & everyone right now." Twilight tried to make herself not seem so depress over seeing her baby Dragon go off, and taking his vacation time...she actually didn't expect to miss him so much after he left along with Ben & Phobos.
"We understand Twilight, we're here for you." Fluttershy smiled to approach her fried in assuring the girl, she has her friends to help get over these type of problems.
Twilight smile in having to see now that she can't get sad over Spike's leave, he'll return, he said that he would. So she just has to think of his happiness and that will make her feel happy that he's happy on his trip to having a nice vacation.
Now the scene opens to a nice beach shore where after a flashing light, what should appear then from a golden triangle that disappeared afterwards...but Ben, Phobos and Spike entering their arrived destination. They looked around, Dragon Shores was beautiful, clear sands, clean waves, tropical trees, and an active volcano while hot springs were all over, plus the finding of gems in the ground. For any Dragon, this could be seen as a paradise for dragons to rest & relax themselves.
"Boy Phobos, you weren't kidding about this place!" Ben smiled in giving comments that the Moon Dragon wasn't off about this place.
"Told ya so," Phobos smirked proudly in liking to rub this in the stallion's face in being right here.
"Man, I can hardly wait to start here!" Spike smiled in seeing so much of paradise all around him, this is gonna be a great place to have his vacation in.
While these three were marveling at their arrival at Dragon Shores, Spike was looking both ways to see if anypony was coming and move only for a hoof to stop him as a pony going really fast as the pony says , "It is always wise to look to the left once more just in case is somepony comes by. Now you run along little Dragon
Spike then head off to follow Ben and Phobos, thinking that it was just a pony helping out. The pony himself, says in his mind, "I better get back on my task and wait till orders come from Prince Golden Heart."
With that he heads back in the crowd. The vacation moves onward to the beach. The group put down towels and all that stuff. Spike sighs as he sat down; this is one vacation that the baby Dragon is going to enjoy...
Well, Spike would've except he yelps as a huge wave came from the ocean and splashes him, getting the Dragon all wet. As Spike spits out the water, Phobos comments, "Oooh, too close to the ocean."
"You think?" Spike remarks sarcastically as he shakes the water off of himself. The baby Dragon moves his stuff away from the water before sitting down. "There, must..."
Spike was interrupted as somehow the ocean splashes him once more. Ben and Phobos tries their best not to laugh as the annoyed Dragon got seaweed, crabs, shells, etc. on himself.
"See, looks like you aren't a hero anymore. You're all wet!" Ben laughs a bit making Spike scowls.
"Just be glad you are Twilight's colt-friend." Spike groans as he shakes himself clean. "Well, I ain't getting a tan anyway. Well, is there a surfing thing around here?"
"Over there; Race ya!" Phobos laughs as he rushes over to the building where the surfboards will be rented at.
"Wait for me!"
Spike got to the rental place first...but was run down by folks rushing out. He got up and groans a bit...then was knocked down by more folks rushing in and out again. As Ben and Phobos came over, Spike got back up.
"Oh man, that was a drag." Spike said as he and the others came into the place. Needless to say, only 2 surfboards are left...and Phobos took one that looks good. The baby Dragon stares at the other that looks like it has been through Tartarus. "Aw, scales!"
"Relax, Spike! I will show ya the ropes or water!" Phobos laughs eagerly making Spike sighs a bit.
Ben Mare sat on the sand as he watches the Dragons surf on the water. The stallion calls out, "Looking good, guys!"
"Thanks, hey Spike; check me out!" Phobos laughs as he did some surf moves in the wave.
"Cool!" Spike laughs as he did the same thing, going up high in the wave. "Whoa!"
"Got yourself a big wave there, buddy!"
"Awesome"
Spike kept on performing...until the wave disappeared; The Dragon yelps as he fall downward...and hit a bunch of rocks, bouncing up and down on them like a ball, getting injured. Soon Spike hits the water and is send forward like a torpedo until he hits the sand, digging uncontrollably until Spike hits a sandcastle...that was covering a rock.
"Ooh. Spike," Ben said in concern as he trots over to Spike, coming out of the sand while holding his head in pain. "You okay, little guy?"
"Ouuuuuuch," Spike groans a bit. "I will say that now surfing and sand castle building is definitely out."
"Now now; you don't even know if sand castle building isn't your style..."
Suddenly a bunch of sand fell onto Spike, resulting in a huge castle being built. Ben blinks and saw Phobos, smiling while dusting off his claws. He say, "Okay, fortress done!"
"Then again," Ben said with a slight sheepish chuckle.
After getting Spike dug out of the sand castle (and dealing with complaining from Phobos), the group decides to collect some souvenirs for the others back home. Things appear to be doing fine now especially when Spike got some interesting ones for his friends.
But when it comes to Rarity, Spike decides to head to the gem field where gems magically appeared. The baby Dragon collects some gems, smiling. Rarity will love these.
"Okay, we should get some more then we will head on out." Ben suggests to his Dragon friends with a smile, "Spike? Are you done?"
"Almost...there's this big one over here." Spike exclaims eagerly as he rushes over and pulls on a huge gem, though it is stuck tightly. The Dragon frowns as he pulls some more, "Come on, come on; Why won't you move?!"
"Uh, Spike?" Phobos asks Spike uneasily. "You may wanna leave that alone."
"Why?! It's mine to give to Rarity! COME OUT!!!"
Suddenly Spike yelps as he finds himself risen in the air...and on the back of a gem back tortoise like creature who glares angrily at him. The Dragon realizes that the gem that he's pulling is on the thing's back.
"That's why. Those Gemtoises get cranky when some Dragon tries to steal their gems." Phobos explains to Spike.
"Now you tell me!" Spike yells out frantically as he runs off with the Gemtoise in pursuit. He rushes by more of the creatures, who were sleeping until he woke them up. They join the chase, looking angrily.
Ben and Phobos cringe as they hear beating up noises big time. The stallion sighs, "I better go save him."
"Wow; that gotta hurt!" Phobos exclaims in surprise as Ben rush in to save Spike who is getting twisted like mad.
Twilight and her friends were having a get together at the library when the door opens up, much to their surprise. Nyx spoke up, "Daddy? I thought you, Spike and Phobos were at Dragon Shores."
"We have to come back. Spike has...a little incident." Ben said sheepishly. He moves aside to reveal Spike, covered in bandages, especially on his head, while on clutches.
"Spike," Twilight gasps and gallops over to her assistant/brother. "Oh Spike. What happened?"
"Got into a run-in with some Gemtoises," Spike groans a bit. "During my little vacation, I got splashed on, run down, bouncing off rocks, buried and almost mauled."
"Oh poor Spikey Wikey," Rarity said as she hugs the injured Dragon. "That must've been a terrible time!"
"Actually, not really; we did have some bit of funs...though with some rough parts."
"Got you some souvenirs," Phobos laughs as he drops a lot of souvenirs onto the floor.
"All right," Rainbow laughs as she looks to see which one's hers. As the ponies picks some out, Spike pulls out some gems, giving them to Rarity.
"Sorry, it's the best that I can do after my run in with the Gemtoises." Spike said to Rarity sheepishly.
"Oh, Spike, it doesn't matter. My best souvenir is seeing you okay." Rarity said while nuzzling Spike, making him chuckle like a fool.
"Time for a welcome back party," Pinkie giggles as she rush off, making her friends laugh. As usual, that pony is random.
Twilight apologizes to Spike, "Spike, I was so sorry that your vacation was cut short and ruin.
The baby dragon responds in saying, "Vacations are cool and all, but I feel that it's more fun having it...with friends and family than by one's self." Spike groans a bit. "But if you don't mind, I wanna stay away from Dragon Shores for a while."
The gang laughs. And let that be served as the lesson Spike's come to learn today in Friendship.

Poor Spike but at least he tries to have some fun, right? In the next fic, it's an origin story; Here's the details...
"MLP FIM: Life with Ben: Go back in time before Ben disappeared as the Demon Pony. In school, he and Twilight do some fun things and some other interesting moments for the two of them. Boris and his goons try to discourage Ben to be with Twilight, but failed every time."
