The Animal Within
The Vice Principal and Getting Home
Previous ChapterRainbow just stared at him as Lykos finished his story about his encounter with the wild beast. She knew this guy was tough but to take on a full grown wild animal? This dude was a whole new level of awesome.
“So then after the attack, we moved here where it’s less likely for that to happen again. I still wonder what animal that was because it was like nothing I’ve ever seen.” He said to her.
“Really? What did it look like?” She asked him. He took in a deep breath before answering. “About… 5-6ft tall at the shoulder, looked around 200 pounds, oily black fur, glowing red eyes, and the head of… like a dog or a wolf.” Rainbow’s eyes just widened at the description he gave her. Before she could ask any more questions, the bell rang which signaled the end of the class.
“Sorry but I’m gotta go to my next class now. Maybe I’ll see you around some time Rainbow.” He said as he exited the gym. As he tried to walk down the crowded hallway, he felt a gentle hand touch his shoulder, causing him to jump a bit. Turning his head slowly, he saw a woman with deep blue skin and flowing light blue hair. Her eyes were a light ocean blue. She was wearing a dark blue jacket with black outlining and a pair of dark blue jeans.
“Sorry if I startled you, but you wouldn’t happen to be Lykos now would you?” The woman asked in a calm voice. Lykos blinked a few times before he nodded. “I’m Vice Principal Luna. Not only am I the Vice Principal but also the guidance counselor. I was wondering if you could spare a few moments to talk about yourself?” She asked him.
“Um…. sure.” He replied.
“Excellent. Please come with me to my office.” She said as she began to walk back through the hallway, Lykos quickly began to follow. After a minute of bumping into students, he finally made it with her to her office. As soon as she opened the door, he noticed that the room was dark, a lava lamp lighting the whole room.
Whoa. Creepy a bit, but I like it. Lykos thought as he watched the woman that was his Vice Principal walk to her chair and sit in it. “Now then Lykos please sit.” She beckoned to a empty chair that was in front of her desk. Lykos shrugged and sat down in it as the questions started to flow.
“What did you do before you came to Canterlot High Lykos?” She asked.
“I was homeschooled.” He replied.
“Do both of your parents have a career?”
“My dad’s a mechanic and my mom’s a zoologist.”
“Where do you live now?”
“314 Midmoon Avenue.”
“What are your parents names?”
“Crea and Steel Wrench.”
“What color is the lava lamp?”
“What?”
“I’m asking the questions. Now again what is the color of the lava lamp?”
“Um….. blue?”
“Good. That will be all for now Lykos. I shall give you a note allowing you a free pass for your class so you won’t be tardy.” Luna told him as she gave him a note that she had scribbled on. She passed it to him and he grabbed it.
“But before you go, I have one more question.” She said. “What’s your favorite video game?” She asked.
“Changelings V.S Soldiers.” He said as he left the room. He thought he heard Luna make a remark that suspiciously like “good choice” before he left. He then hurried down to Doctor Whooves room and made it just in time as he was just finishing roll.
“Ah a fresh brain for us to dissect.” The teacher said which made Lykos drop his jaw.
“I’m joking my lad. I am Doctor Whooves, your new math professor. Might I ask for your name good sir?” The man asked in a British voice.
“Lykos. I-It’s Lykos.” He stuttered as he shook the professor’s hand.
“Ah. It’s nice to meet you my good man. Now, please go ahead and take a seat.” Whooves said as he patted the student on his back. Lykos saw that nearly all the seats were taken except for one next to the lavender girl he met in his first class. He widened his eyes as she smiled and pulled up the chair next to her. Shrugging his shoulders he sat right next to her. He then turned his head and saw a light blue girl with white hair and a pale yellow skinned girl with yellow and red hair next to him.
Oh boy. Now this is going to make for an interesting class. Lykos thought as he stared at both of the girls.
An hour had passed and finally, the last bell of the school day had rang, signaling freedom. As Lykos watched the rest of the class leave before him, he noticed the two girls he met in the beginning of class, who were named Trixie Lulamoon and Sunset Shimmer, were giving him a wicked glare for some reason. He shrugged but never realized that they both had placed a ‘kick me’ sign on his back. Twilight noticed this and tore it off him.
“You really should be more careful around those two.” Twilight said as she showed him the piece on paper.
“I was wondering why Sunset patted me on the back. Thanks.” Lykos said with a small smile as he followed her out of the classroom. “So… Twilight, do you know which bus gets me to 314 Midmoon Avenue?” He asked as he watched the girl open her locker door and get a purple backpack with a violet star in the center out of it.
“Yeah it’s bus 522. Wait…. that’s my bus.” She said as she turned her attention back to him. Lykos sighed with relief as he felt his luck go up.
“Hey there buddy!” Only to have it plummet down as a familiar high pitched voice walked up behind him. Lykos turned around, hoping he was wrong about who it was, and saw that Blueblood had indeed met up with him.
“Blueblood, what do you want?” He groaned.
“Just wanted to say that I hope you had a great day here at Canterlot High and good luck throughout the rest of the year!” Blueblood replied with a smile on his face.
Somebody please kill me! Lykos prayed in his thoughts.
“Blueblood, don’t you have somewhere to be?” Twilight asked him making the teen gasp.
“That’s right! Auntie Celestia wanted me to help her with the Fall Formal set-up!” He replied as he zoomed off with a dust cloud vanishing behind him. Twilight sighed as she turned towards Lykos.
“Sorry about that Lykos. That guy is such a major douche.” She said with a smile.
“Ah it’s fine. Every school has at least one of them.” He told her.
“So Lykos, why did Vice Principal Luna call you into her office?” Twilight asked as the two went down the stairs.
“To tell me that she’s the school counselor and asked me a few questions. The last few were weird though.” He replied as he remembered the lava lamp question. They arrived at the bus and just sat and talked a little while they headed back to their respective homes.
“So what do you do?”
“Eh I just come to school but I really need to get back home.”
“Why? What’s going on there?” Twilight asked him which made Lykos draw in a deep and dramatic breath as the bus stopped at their street.
“Babysitting my little sister.” He groaned which gave him an ‘awwwwwe’ from Twilight. They then got up from their seat and walked off the bus. But before Lykos could take a few steps forward, he heard barking which made him freeze. He looked down and saw a purple dog with green ears, light green eyes, a black nose at the end of his muzzle and he had a spiked collar with a heart tag growling at him.
“Spike no. Down boy.” Twilight said sternly to the dog which made it back down and walk back into the house soon after via a small doggie door. “Spike gets a little defensive when strangers get near the house or me.” She explained to Lykos who just shrugged his shoulders and nodded in understanding. Twilight waved good-bye as he walked back to his house. He looked back towards Twilight and saw Spike who was still growling at him.
What’s up with him? He thought as he then watch the mutt show off his fangs. He ignored it and continued up to his house, which was white with a black roof, and opened the door. He placed his backpack on the coat hanger and began his way upstairs. He already heard the sound of his sister starting to cry and hurried up stairs. He arrived at the door and opened…. only to see a giant black creature leaning over her.
“GET AWAY FROM HER!” He screamed as he readied a punch. But as he swung, his fist went through the monster and he slammed into the wall. He then watched as the monster vanished into the air with a growl. What in the name of- before he could finish his thought the sister started to cry in earnest again. Acting quickly, he got up and picked up his little sister.
“Ssh. Ssh. It’s alright Silver. Big brother’s here.” He cooed as he gently rocked his infant sibling in his arms. After a few minutes, she calmed and began to giggle as she reached up for her brother’s face.
“I know. Just let me do something and we’ll play okay?” He asked as he placed her in a bouncer. Lykos then turned his attention to the calendar which was nearly crossed out. So he grabbed a black marker and crossed out Sept. 30.
