*Edited* Chapter 1
Trixie shivers and pulls her blue jacket closer to her body in an effort to keep warm, and for the second time that day she was glad that her mother had talked her into wearing jeans instead of her usual skirt. It was early morning just a few weeks after winter break, and the weather had yet to warm up any, despite what the weather report had to say. She lets out a sigh and continues to look down the street for the bus that will have the new student she was supposed to show around the school.
“I can’t believe they’re making me do this just because I accidently set vice Principal Luna’s hair on fire. It’s not even like she lost all of it.” She thinks to herself while taking a seat on a nearby bench just outside the front of the school. She watched the other students walk by and head into the warmth of the school building, feeling jealous as she shivers again. “Trixie wishes this bus would hurry up, she is cold!” she huffs out closing her eyes.
“Umm excuse me,” a voice calls out.
Trixie jolts up and starts looking around with a hand clutched to her chest.
“Oh, sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you.” The voice says, coming from behind her.
Trixie quickly spins around and sees a young boy about her age on the bench she was on moments ago. She takes a deep breath and releases it, letting her nerves calm. “You didn’t startle Trixie,” she spits out taking a closer look at the boy, who just raises an eyebrow from her remark. He is wearing slightly faded dark blue jeans that cover the tops of his shoes, and is wrapped up in a dark grey pea coat with a black scarf around his neck. Trixie would almost call him a hipster, but his face didn’t portray the look of smugness that most hipsters she knew gave off. His face actually is quite pleasant she thinks, with his black slightly shaggy hair and his dark green eyes, Trixie feels like she could almost get lost in them.
“So you called yourself Trixie right?” asks the boy with a faint blush on his face from Trixie’s constant staring.
Trixie quickly looks away and gives her head a shake, dispelling the blush that had formed on her cheeks. She returns her attention back to the boy. “Yes I am the Great and Powerful Trixie, and you are?” she utters out with a bit of vanity in her voice.
The boy just looks at her dumb founded for a second “Great and Powerful? Righttt,” He finally mutters out. “Well anyway my name is Zack and I’m starting school here today. I received a letter the other day saying a girl named Trixie was going to be waiting for me at the front of the school, so she could show me around the school today.”
“Yes, Trixie is I but…” she stops and looks up and down the street. “Where did you come from? Trixie sees no bus anywhere.”
Zack chuckles for a second “Well yeah you were asleep when the bus dropped me off. I sat there for like five minutes trying to decide if I should wake you up or not.”
Trixie feels herself blush and she squeaks out a light “Oh” before regaining her composure. “Well anyway the Great and Powerful Trixie welcomes you to Canterlot High!” She suddenly yells out, as fireworks shot out into the sky behind her.
“Umm thanks, but where did those fireworks come from, and why were there fireworks?” Zack asks while trying to look behind her for their source.
“No time to explain, Trixie’s got fifteen minutes to show you where your locker is and get to hers as well before home room starts.” She bluntly replies while looking at her watch. She grabs Zack’s hand and pulls him off the bench. She then sprints into the school with Zack trailing slightly behind.
“Now how this works is that we already share the same classes. So all you have to do is follow Trixie around to and from class so you know where they are, and of course ask Trixie any questions you may have about where things are and such. But please try to keep question to a minimum; Trixie doesn’t really like questions,” states Trixie as she digs through her locker.
“You normally don’t do this do you?”
Trixie decides to keep her blue jacket on, and closes her locker door. She turns towards Zack, who is leaning up against the locker next to hers with his books tucked underneath one of his arms. He still had his coat on but it’s unzipped now showing a similar grey colored t-shirt underneath it. Trixie sighs in annoyance, “No Trixie normally doesn’t do this, and Trixie is being punished. Normally Pinkie Pie would be the one showing you around.”
“Why are you being punished? Also do you always speak in 3rd per…?” He is interrupted by Trixie puting a hand over his mouth. She raises a finger to her lips telling him to be silent, as she looks over his shoulder, her eyes lighting up in excitement. She removes her hand and spins him around till he’s facing a dark purple haired girl talking to a blue haired boy on the other side of the hall.
“This is Trixie’s favorite high school drama. You see that girl is Twilight Sparkle and the boy is named Flash Sentry. Now the boy has a huge crush on Twilight but Twilight is completely unaware about it, but there’s another factor in this little drama,” Trixie states as she points to a Rainbow Haired girl who’s staring at the previous two people with jealousy clearly in her eyes. “That is one of Twilights best friends, Rainbow Dash. Now she also has quite a big crush on the girl, In Trixie’s opinion I don’t see the appeal but I guess some people like the innocent school girl look. Anyway like Flash over there, Twilight has no idea about Rainbows feelings for her.” Trixie giggles out. “Trixie actually has a poll going on who is going to confess first if you want in.” Trixie says as she walks down the hall and stops at a classroom door, with Zack closely behind.
“That seems kind of cruel don’t you think?”
“Nonsense it’s all in good fun, now come on. First up is Homeroom with Mr. Discord you’ll like him. He’s also our English teacher later in the day,” explains Trixie as she opens the door to the classroom.
The classroom is like any classroom you would find in the country. With a white board at the front of the room, a big wooden desk with an almost out of date computer off to the side of the room, and several dozen single student desks all facing the white board. There is even a couple of educational posters hanging on the walls here and there.
Zack looks around and sees most of the students just talking among themselves; some were even sleeping with their heads on top of the desks. All of them relaxing and waiting for the bell to start the day. Trixie nudges Zack and points at the teacher’s desk. Zack looks over and sees a tall slender man in a brown pin stripe suit with white slick back hair and a well-trim goatee in the same color, leaning back in his chair with his feet resting atop his desk. He is holding up a newspaper in front of him and is casually reading it as he raises one of his hands and snaps his fingers. Suddenly an athletic looking boy with a silver mohawk walks through the door with a cup of coffee and hands it to the man’s waiting hand.
Zack looks over to Trixie and sees her with an amusing smile on her face. “Thunderlane thinks if he’s at Mr. Discord’s beck and call, then Mr. Discord won’t fail him,” She explains. “Come on, the desk next to me is usually empty.”
The bell rings just as Zack and Trixie take their seats, Discord chuckles and puts his paper down “Ohh you all should take a look at the Derpy and Dinkie comic today, it’s a good one.” He says while walking out from behind his desk and stopping in front of the white board. He looks at the classroom and does a mental roll call. “Alright looks like everyone is here today. Now there are not any big announcements for you today, although we do have a new student named Zack starting today. I guess that’s him sitting by The Great and Powerful Trixie over there,” He says while pointing at Zack. “Now all of you do make him feel welcomed, won’t you? Now there isn't much else to tell you, although if you do see Vice Principal Luna today. Be sure to compliment her on her lovely new hair style,” Discord laughs out as he returns to his desk.
Trixie gulps
“Also Thunderlane how many times do I have to tell you that I like my coffee black,” Discord inquires as he pours out the coffee cup into a nearby potted plant. He smiles a toothy smile at Thunderlane the whole time.
Thunderlane gulps
The rest of the morning went pretty well. The first class of the day was Government with Miss Cheerilee, which Zack found to be very boring, and Trixie had always found to be boring. Next up was Physics with Dr. Hooves. Zack really enjoyed, while Trixie just sat confused in the back of the class like always. After that came Sex Ed with Mr. Bulk Biceps, which they both found to be hysterical, especially whenever Mr. Bulk deeply blushed from the subject matter.
Then came lunch.
“In the Great and Powerful Trixie’s opinion the only slop worth eating in this place is the peanut butter crackers that are in the vending machine…although the fruit salad is decent.” Trixie tells Zack as they wait in the lunch line.
Zack grabs a hamburger and some fries and puts them on his tray. “If you think all the food in the cafeteria is slop, then why are you getting lunch?” Zack asks as he turns to the elderly lunch lady and gives her his money, he then stands off to the side and waits for Trixie to pay for her fruit salad.
“Because Trixie had to be here early to wait for the new student, so Trixie didn’t get to have any breakfast!” she says while glaring at Zack.
“Just think if you didn’t set Vice Principals Luna’s hair on fire then you could have had breakfast this morning,” Zack teases.
“Who told you it was Trixie!” she harshly whispers.
“No one did, it was pretty easy to figure out it was you. I mean every time it’s brought up, you get this cute little nervous look on your face.”
Trixie quickly turns her head away from Zack as she blushes. “Well don’t tell anyone, okay. It was just an accident anyway Trixie’s pyrotechnics had a small malfunction that’s all.” She softly mutters out. She looks back to Zack and sees him nod his head in understanding.
“Yo, Trixs over here!” a voice calls out, Improving Trixie’s mood almost instantly.
“That would be Trixie’s friends.” She says with a smile. It then slips into a smirk of annoyance. “I suppose you can sit with us today, since I’m supposed to be your guide today and everything.”
Zack shrugged in reply and followed her towards the source of the voice.
Zack and Trixie sit down at a round table with four other girls occupying it. There is one girl all decked out in white and dark blue clothes that look like they were meant for a rave. Her hair is blue in two separate tones, but probably the thing that stands out the most is a pair of big purple shades she has over her eyes. The girl next to her is the exact opposite. She is wearing what appears to be a very conservative grey dress, her black hair pulled back into a pony tail, and she currently has her face buried into a book. The girl across from her is wearing a mint green hoodie, and jeans. Her hair is blindingly white. Even with just a glance Zack could tell that she has piercing amber eyes. The girl next to her is probably the most average looking one amongst them wearing just jeans and an off colored yellow long sleeve shirt. If it wasn’t for her navy blue hair with pink swirled into it, Zack would call her normal. Zack just shrugs and takes a bite of his burger.
“So Trix who’s the dude,” asks the girl with the two toned blue hair, as she steals a fry off of Zack’s Tray.
Trixie sighs and swallows the piece of apple that was in her mouth. “Trixie guesses she should give introductions. Girls this is Zack he’s the transfer student Trixie is showing around the school today. Zack the girl who constantly looks like she’s coming and going to a party is Vinyl. The girl with her nose in a book and ignoring all of us is Octavia. The sweet and innocent looking one over there is Bon Bon, and the one currently undressing you with her eyes is Lyra.”
All eyes turn to Lyra on that remark; even Octavia looks up and gives Lyra a glance before she returns to her book. “What? He’s hot!” exclaims Lyra.
“LYRA!” Bon Bon yells.
“Hmm I agree he’s quite the looker but hot might be bit of a stretch,” Vinyl says as she leans over the table to get a better look at Zack. “What do you think Trix?”
“Trixie is staying out of this.” She blushes.
“I’ll take the blush as a vote for hot. That’s good news for you dude.” She giggles. “What do you think Octy?”
Octavia closes her book and turns a fiery gaze at Vinyl. “I think I told you to stop calling me Octy! That’s what I think!” She spits out with venom in her voice.
“Oh come on Octy I know you secretly like it.”
“I do not secretly like it Vinyl Scratch!”
“Oh boy, you used my full name.”
Trixie sighs and pushes her lunch tray out of the way so she can rest her head in her hands. She watches Bon Bon lecture Lyra in not being so openly pervy, and she watches Vinyl and Octavia argue over Octavia’s little nickname. Trixie looks over at Zack who is just watching the girls while he chews on his hamburger.
“They’re not normally like this, Trixie swears.”
“Don’t worry about it. I like them.” He smiles, and for some reason that made Trixie smile as well.
The rest of the afternoon was dreadfully uneventful. With Calculus being a total snooze fest, and with Earth Science and Ceramics being even more boring than the last. Even Mr. Discords English class, which Trixie assured Zack, would be the highlight of the day, was extremely boring with Discord just reading Shakespeare to the class for the whole period. But luckily time passed and the final bell for school rang out, dismissing the students.
Trixie and Zack walk out of the school together, each pulling their coats closer to their bodies for extra warmth. “So does The Great and Powerful Trixie need to show you where your bus is?” she asks jokingly.
“Nah, you’re good. My Mom’s supposed to be picking me up at the front of the school here in a bit. I think your job is done Trixie.” He replies and gives Trixie a warm smile.
Trixie returns the smile. “Alright then Trixie will see you tomorrow Zack.” Trixie says as she turns around and starts to walk towards her bus, but just before she gets on she turns back around and gives Zack a final wave, which Zack then returns.
Zack lets out a little sigh as he slowly starts to make his way towards the big horse statue that marks the front of the school. “Well today wasn’t so bad, well besides it being completely boring at the end and Trixie seems to be alright... She’s kind of cute actually,” Zack feels himself blush from the thought. Zack reaches the Statue and inspects his reflection in the mirror that is attached to it on one of its sides. “Well it looks like I made it through the first day in one piece,” he mentally chuckles to himself. He lets his gaze fall down to the ground as he lets out another little sigh. He begins to raise his head back up but it stops as something catches his eye.
It is a small black crystal like stone. Zack bends down and picks it up. It is smooth to the touch, with not a single crack or sharp edge on it. Zack swore he almost felt warmth coming from it as he stood up. He begins to further inspect the stone, but a horn honking interrupts his concentration. Zack turns his head and sees his Mom waiting for him in her car. He pockets the stone as he gets into the car.
