A passage to The Domain, a databank of the ancient Forunner knowledge has been found at The Ark installation by an Elite archeological mission lead by The Arbiter. The Elites plan to use the knowledge to defend against the quickly militarizing UNSC. MasterChief Petty Officer John 117 travels to the Ark after he is haunted by strange visions of his former AI Cortana. After reveling a transmission sent by Cortana. John realizes she is alive within the Domain itself. John soon finds himself in a strange world with no sign of the mysterious artifact. But with the help of a new ally, John is determined to find The Domain, save Cortana, and prevent the elites from using The Domain against Humanity.

Meanwhile in a galaxy far far away…
The Empire is beating the rebel alliance into submission after destroying Echo Base. Darth Vader reflects on his confrontation with his son Luke when he is interrupted by his master, The Emperor. A strange installation has been found in the outermost parts of the Galaxy by The Grand Admerial Thrawn. The Emperor has sensed a great disturbance, the installation seems to be emanating with the light side of the force. Emperor Palpatine mobilizes a fleet to investigate with the Grand Admiral and Vader in tow. The Imperial fleet triggers the installation, and they find themselves teleported lightyears into a completely unknown part of space.
