"Do you know why you all are here?" The young fillies and colts exchanged confused looks. The blue mare standing in front of them brushed her rainbow mane out of her eyes. "You're here to learn how to fly." She said, a smile slowly forming on her face. "My name is Rainbow Dash and I will be your instructor for the rest of the school year."
The white filly looked around curiously, her cyan mane swishing from side to side. She turned to the colt next to her. "Do you know where Ice is?" He glanced over at her.
"Why do you care about him, Cyan?" Her face turned slightly red as she looked away.
"I d-don't....I was just wondering why he isn't here....." She said quietly. The colt grinned as he stepped forward.
"No, I don't know why your little coltfriend isn't here." He giggled slightly then turned to the pony next to him. He whispered something and the filly giggled, then pointed at Cyan. Her face flushed red and she turned away.
"Now everypony, STOP TALKING!" Rainbow Dash yelled before blowing her whistle. Everypony quickly looked forward and the crowd of ponies went completely silent. Rainbow grinned and looked at all the fillies and colts before her. "Our first lesson is ta-AH!" She screamed as something hit her, making her fall onto the cloud.
Ice slowly stood up, rubbing his head as he looked around. "S-sorry I'm late...." He rubbed his eyes and turned around. "Where's the teacher?"
"Ow....." Rainbow said as she sat up on the cloud. "Be more careful, kid." She got up and looked down at Ice. "Where's your parents?"
"Oh...um....my dad kinda lives in Manehattan.....and my mom was asleep when I got up...." He looked down.
"Why didn't you just wake your mom up?"
"S-she......was......k-kinda........drunk......" He barely managed to say. Everypony started laughing, pointing at Ice. Rainbow Dash looked at him, shocked.
"Drunk....?" She shook her head and looked at all the giggling ponies. "STOP LAUGHING!" She screamed, but nopony listened. They continued mocking the young colt as he put his ears back.
Cyan, the only other pony besides Ice and Rainbow that wasn't laughing, stepped forward. She walked up to Ice and embraced him. He looked up, revealing the tears in his eyes. "W.....w....what.......a-are......you....d-doing....?" He whispered to Cyan as he hugged her slightly.
"Hugging you...." She replied quietly, squeezing Ice a little tighter. Ice took a shaky deep breath as he closed his eyes.
"T-thank you....." Cyan continued hugging him for several minutes before his crying stopped. Rainbow Dash looked over at both of them. She thought for a moment.
"Cyan, do you know how to take off...?" She pulled away from Ice and looked back at Rainbow.
"Yeah.....why?" Cyan replied, confused.
"Show me." She nodded and flapped her wings hard, slowly lifting off the ground. Rainbow Dash watched for a moment before scribbling something on a clipboard.
"Good job....and Ice, I already know you can fly.....just not very good. You two go back to the classroom while everypony else practices taking off."
"O-okay...." Ice said. He sniffled softly and started walking back to the classroom with Cyan.
"MOM! GET UP!" Ice screamed as he shook the bed violently. His mother groaned and rolled over, ignoring him completely. Ice grunted and backed up until he was at the door. He took a running start and jumped up onto the bed, landing directly on top of his mother.
"AH!" She yelled as she shoved him off of her. "What?! What is so important that you had to wake me up!?" Ice said nothing as he simply pointed to a clock. "It's 9:30. Wake me up at 12." She closed her eyes and lied her head down again.
Ice nudged her back, irritated. "I'm late for the first day of school! Don't you remember, Cirrus!?" He yelled, emphasizing on her name, knowing it would make his mother angry. She turned her head so she was facing him. Cirrus stared straight into Ice's eyes.
"First of all, don't you ever call me Cirrus again. You refer to me as Mom. And second, if you yell one more time, you're grounded for a month, got it?" He didn't respond. "I said.....GOT IT?!" She shouted. Ice quickly nodded and jumped down off of the bed. "Now go get ready. I'll be out in a few minutes to take you to school."
Ice trotted out of the room silently, stepping over empty beer bottles on his way to the kitchen. He yawned as he looked inside the refrigerator, grabbing a box of juice off the top shelf. "You're so disgusting Mom....." Ice muttered. He took a box of cereal off the counter, and walked into the living room, sitting down on the couch. He started eating, waiting patiently for his mother to come out and take him to school.
A few minutes passed and Cirrus still did not come out of her room. Ice got up and walked into the room. "Mom...?" He noticed his mother, sleeping peacefully on the bed. He took a deep breath, about to scream, but held it in. He sighed and walked over to Cirrus. He hugged her slightly, then quietly left the room, closing the door behind him. "Bye....." Ice said, knowing his mother couldn't hear him.
He trotted out the door and onto the porch of the small and messy cloud house. Ice nervously spread his wings as he looked up into the sky. It's only five minutes to flight school, he thought. What could possibly go wrong?
