The Forest Hides Till Night
It's been nearly a year since I landed here in this damnable forest. I'm not really sure how I got here, but that's not the important part. The important part is that I'm stuck in the forest. I'm not here because I'm somehow magically trapped, oh no, I'm here because of the inhabitants of the town outside of the forest. They aren't keeping me here though, I'm stuck here to avoid them knowing I'm here. I'm sure if the inhabitants learned about me they would problem scream and run in terror. I mean what else would they do if they met an alien creature, but no matter. I've lived here since my arrival and discovery of the inhabitants. Oh did I mention I just made a friend? No? Oh well I'll get to that soon enough. Let me tell you about my first day here.
"The hell is this?" I looked around trying to get my bearing. This was a forest, and not one I ever remembered being in. The trees blocked out the sky and looked twisted and distorted, as if they were evil entities trapped in wood. The air was still and warm, as if there was nothing alive except for you. The plants, were all types you've never seen before. The fruits that hung from the trees were swirled black and white, there were nuts and berries that were covered in thorns that were the color of blood, and a small patch of flowers were nearby that were bright blue, but yet nothing seemed to grow near these plants. I immediately knew I shouldn't even touch anything here.
I checked around once again, finding a backpack of mine close by nearly hidden under a bush. In it were some books of mine, a knife, a phone that was dead, a pair of black shorts, and a grey notebook with some pencils and paper. Nothing too useful, beside the knife, so I switched out of the jeans I was wearing, put on the shorts, and packed everything back into the pack. There was a trail nearby, one that looked like it hadn't been used for a while, even by animals, but that was better than nothing. I started following the trail and wondered why I hadn't seen or heard any animals yet. Even though the forest seemed evil and twisted, there should still be animals, right? I guess not, or maybe I'm in a bad spot in the forest, but that's hard to say without knowing anything about it.
I followed the path for what seemed like an hour, the trees obscured my view of the sky, the winding path seemed to distort my sense of time, and yet still no sign of any animals. Soon enough though, I found myself at the edge of the forest, and by now the treetops had thinned out enough that I could see the sky. It was late in the evening when I got to the edge of the forest. Peering out, I could see what looked like a small cottage with some equally small animals in cages, and farther out I could see the edge of a what looked to be a town. I crept towards the cottage, hoping not to disturb anyone if they were home, and made my way to the front door. Taking a quick look through the window on the front door, it appeared as if nobody was home, and after a minute of deliberation, I quietly made my way inside.
The cottage was nice, but a bit small. There were some cages here and there, a couch, and off to my right and I could see what looked like a kitchen. To my left were some stairs that led to a second level, which I didn't realize the cottage had until now. I looked around trying to find any kind of indicator as to where I was, and noticed a bookshelf. Immediately I spotted a book that stood out from the others. I wasn't sure why, but I could tell that it was what I was looking for. I took the book down from the shelf and sat down on the couch. The book was a deep maroon color, and the face and spine held no title. Opening it up to the first page, I found the title of the book, The Land of Equestria. I was pretty confused as to why I thought this was the right book, from what I could tell, this was some kind of story book, but I decided I might as well go ahead and read through it.
I've always been a pretty fast reader so it didn't take me long to go through the first few chapters. From what I read the place I was in was apparently called Equestria, and it was divided into three races of magical ponies, Earth ponies, Pegasi, and Unicorns, but there was also a separate race of beings, called Alicorns, and were a combination of all three races. Equestria was apparently very divided in its past, but after certain events, the three races were united by the Alicorns. The Alicorns then became the rulers of the land, and the current rulers were two sisters by the name of Celestia, and Luna. The whole thing seemed pretty interesting, albeit unbelievable. I was going to continue reading, until I heard a voice outside. I panicked for a second, before I grabbed the book and sprinted for the stairs.
I heard the door open and the owner of the house enter, just as I got to the top of the stairs. I didn't take the time to look back and see who it was as I ran for the nearest door and found a bedroom. From the looks of it, the owner was female, but I wasn't about to take the time to check everything out. So, I made my way to the window, hoping it was unlocked. To my luck it was, so I quickly opened it to find that it was night time, and that the drop to the ground would be cushioned by some bushes. I hopped out the window and down into the bushes, landing roughly but not hurting myself overall. Removing myself from the bushes I quietly made my way around to the front of the home and had a quick look through the window again. What I saw shocked me.
"What the fuck?!" I said a bit too loudly, looking at a small yellow Pegasus with a pink mane. My comment must have startled her, because she turned around.
"W-who's there?" she asked, seemingly terrified by my voice.
I wasn't going to stay there any longer. If I hadn't already started noticing some odd signs, I would have probably been having a panic attack. Instead, I ducked down and sprinted back towards the forest, all the while still carrying the book. When I made it into the edge of the forest I looked back to see if she had followed me. I couldn't see her anywhere so I assumed I was safe. I put the book into my bag and looked around for the path I originally took to get here. Once I found it I began to make my way back the way I came.My mind was still pretty confused about what I had just seen and read, but now wasn't the time to freak out. I could do that once I had found some sort of shelter. I could also finally hear the sounds of life in the forest. Whether or not that was good was still to be decided.
It took me a while but I managed to find a small cave along the path. I didn't have any type of light with me so I couldn't exactly see where I was going, so I held my arms out in front of me and walked slowly as to avoid tripping on anything. I moved forward for a few moments without running into anything, until my foot poked something soft. What ever I poked must have been asleep, because as soon as I touched it, it opened its eyes and rose up. It's eyes glowed yellow, and resembled a cats. From my position though, the animal was about a whole foot taller than me, and I could tell it was not happy.
