Chapter 2
When I was a young filly I remember waking up early in the mornings to help take care of my baby sister Inky because that foal had a set of lungs on her.
But one of my most favorite things I remember waking up too is the day I got to see Princess Celestia up close and personal! I remember that day like it was yesterday come to think of it.
It was a regular Friday morning and outside my house all I heard was “The Princess is coming!” “Get the kids honey the Princess is coming!” My mom was making her famous ‘Gingerbread Pancakes’ a recipe she learned from her mom and her mom before her. The aroma alone can make your mouth water like a faucet, but the thing that confused me was that ‘Why was momma making her famous pancakes today of all days?’ I walked into the kitchen only to see my mom zoom from each part of the kitchen preparing not only her famous pancakes but also her Gingerbread Cookies, Gingerbread Brownies, and her Gingerbread cupcakes.
I walked into the kitchen still alittle groggy from waking up and pulled my momma’s apron. “Momma?” I ask tugging one of her strings while she was mixing a bowl of batter. “I’m kinda busy Binky what is it?” She moved to the stove flipping a pancake into the air only to catch it on a plate stacking it with a dozen other pancakes. “Momma why are you cooking all of this?” I asked politely rubbing the sleep from my eyes. Momma stopped to take breath and looked at me. “Well Binky. The Princess is coming to Manehatten to find some ponies who know how to cook, bake, and fix up each type of course for the royal kitchen crew.” She turned to the oven again and saw one of her pancakes was just about ready and zoomed to flip it onto the tip of the stack. She looks at the pancake and just stares it with pure morose. “Momma?” I ask. “What’s wrong?” She turns off the stove and sets the plate stacked with pancakes on the table silently. “Momma? What’s goin’ on?” I walked up to her looking a pancake with a little crisp on the side. “I burnt it.” She runs her hoof through her mane. “Who am I kidding? The Princess wouldn’t choose some amateur like me to be in the royal kitchen.”
“Amateur!” I exclaim pulling her attention to me. “Momma you are the bestest cook in all of Equestria!” My mom let out a long deep sigh “Binky if I can’t make a stack of perfect pancakes I will most likely not be able to cook for royalty.” She grabs the burnt pancake and holds it up in her hoof. “This! This is the reason I won’t be able to cook in the royal kitchen.” I never seen my momma so sad like that, my momma has always been an amazing cook and to see her so sad over a burnt pancake made me mad. So I did what any filly would do for her sad Momma, I took care of the Problem.
I flew off the ground grabbing the pancake from her hoof with my chomps and eat it. “Binky!” Momma exclaimed “~Burp~ I’m sorry momma but if you think one little burnt pancake is a reason not to try out to be in the royal kitchen then that makes it a bad pancake.” I licked my lips trying to get as much crumbs from the amazing pancake as possible. She looked at me in shock, but that shock quickly turned to laughter. “Binky you are a different kind of filly you know that?” I laugh with her nuzzling her stomach. “I just love you momma I don’t want you to be sad.” She hugged me tight and nuzzled me back. “You know there must have been a mistake cause I don’t think I deserve a filly as amazing as you.”
Momma always knew how to make me feel special, sometimes I think her food is so sweet and good cause she always puts love into her food. Just then a loud ding echoed through the kitchen. “Oh my the cookies are done.” Momma trotted over to the stove and put mitts on her hooves to take the cookies out. Momma set and served the cookies into a little bowl and put all the goodies into a basket. “Well thank you Binky for cheering me up but I still don’t think that I should enter to be one of the cooks. Maybe I’ll just give some of this food to our neighbors so this food doesn’t go to waste.” Momma blew a strand of hair from her face and nuzzled me one last time. “I’m going to check on your sister and get ready to give the food away, get some pancakes you must be hungry still.” Momma shot a smile to me and walked into my sisters room.
I went to the table and got a cookie from the basket. But you wanna know something funny? As I took a bite from that cookie my mouth went straight to heaven. The fluffy cookie’s chocolate chips melted with soft cookie in my mouth. Gingerbread and chocolate combined in my mouth sending my taste buds to a happy world just for them. I knew the second I finished the cookie I couldn’t let my momma give up. Just then my friend Scarlight came into my house. “Binky! Did you hear that the Princess is coming over here?!!” she exclaimed excitedly. “Yeah I heard Scar.” I replied solemnly. “Why aren’t you excited?” Scarlight asked confusingly walking up to me. “Try this.” I grabbed a cookie and shoved it in her mouth. “Try wha—“ Not having time to react she chewed the cookie and stood there. Her eyes dialated and she stared into space for a few seconds before coming back swallowing the cookie. “Binky!! What was that!”
She asked begging me for another. “That was one of my momma’s Gingerbread chocolate chip cookies.” I answered giggling at Scarlight’s reaction to the cookie. “That—THAT WAS THE BEST COOKIE IN THE WORLD!!” She exclaimed still begging me to give her another. “Is your momma entering in the Royal kitchen contest?” My head fell as I looked down kicking the floor. “No. She thinks she’s not good enough cause she burned a pancake.” Scarlight’s face was priceless as confusion mixed her whole face. “Not good enough! Binky. The Princess needs to eat one of her goodies!” “I know Scar.” I turned to the basket. “But momma already says no. I doubt she wants to deliver these anyways.” Scarlight scratched her chin thinking, then a little light bulb turned on over her head. “Well if she doesn’t wanna deliver it then maybe somepony else should deliver it.” She grins rubbing her hooves like a evil scientist would.
“Scarlight you are a genius!” I said jumping on the table grabbing the basket. “Lets go!” I announced jolting for the door. “Wait wait wait Binky!” Scarlight shouted stopping me in my tracks. “What’s wrong Scar?” Scarlight coyly rubbed her hoof on the floor “Can I maybe. You know. Have another cookie?” I giggled rolling my eyes tossing her another cookie. But my momma came out with Inky in a foal pouch around my momma’s body. “Hello scarlight!” Momma said as Scarlight scarfed down the cookie. “Hello Mur ses bodom” Scarlight replied with a full mouth. Momma chuckled nervously “Will you be joining us in giving the goodies to our neighbors?” Scarlight swallowed the cookie and let out a long ‘Uhh’ to momma’s question. I stomped my hoof on the ground and looked at momma “Momma the Princess needs to eat some of your delicious goodies!” Momma looked at me seriously “Binky I already said no.” she demanded. “Well uhh you see momma here’s the thing.” I stood there for a second before grabbing the basket and zooming out of the house. “Binky!” Momma yelled. She turned to Scarlight licking her chomps for any ounce of flavor before she stopped and giggled. Scarlight let out a nervous giggle before zooming out with me.
Me and Scarlight must of ran miles before reaching this massive sea of ponies all eager to see the Princess. “Excuse me. Pardon me. Coming through.” I said as Scarlight and I cut through the crowd of people before coming to a stop at a large stage with huge royal gaurds on each side of the Princess. “Well I’m sad to announce that my time in Manehatten is over. However on the plus side I will be taking some very talented Bakers and Chefs to Canterlot to serve in the Royal kitchen.” Princess Celestia said as she was announcing the names of all the winning Bakers and Chefs. I turned to Scarlight “Scar we gotta get these goodies to the Princess.” Scar nodded thinking. “I got it!” she exclaimed “Lets throw the cookies at her!” I looked at her unimpressed. “Sorry! Sheesh you come up with something.” Then from the back of the crowd I heard momma screaming out for Scarlight and I. “Darn it! My momma is here!” Scarlight scanned for a way to get on the stage. “Binky look!” Scarlight said pointing at a guard rubbing his stomach in hunger. “I bet you twenty bits he could really go for a cookie right about now.” Scarlight was right so I grinned with her as we pushed through the sea of ponies to get to the famished royal guard. “Hey Mr.Gaurd pony.” Scarlight said catching the royal guards attention. “I bet you would really enjoy this cookie.” Scarlight said holding out a cookie. The Guard licked his lips in hunger as he walked up to Scarlight giving him the cookie. While the Guard was busy enjoying my momma’s Gingerbread cookie I ran onto the stage with the basket in my mouth, I set the basket down and the crowd of ponies gasped and murmured as I stood before the very tall and royal Princess Celestia. “Ummm Princess, I know you picked all of your workers but i have something that’s going to knock your crown off.” I opened the basket and held out a cookie, the crowed stared as I held a cookie out to the Princess of Equestria. She smiled softly at me highlighted the cookie with a yellow border of magic lifting the cookie to her mouth taking a bite. “Oh my little filly.” She said in shock taking another bite before finishing the cookie. “Little filly did you make that cookie?” I shook my head with a big smile on my face. “Nope, My momma Ginger Bottom made them. She also makes pancakes and brownies and all sorts of other stuff.” Then I heard my momma scream my name as she walked through the crowd to get on stage with me. “Binky Marie Bottom! What are you doing!” She said before looking at the Princess. “Oh my!” Momma dropped her head to the floor bowing down. “Princess Celestia. I am terribly sorry for my daughter interrupting your important meeting.” Then Princess Celestia did something to this day still shocks momma, she laughed. “Mrs.Bottom you have done an amazing job raising this little filly.” The Princess walked to momma and tickled my baby sister in the foal carrier before picking momma up. “And I’m sure this one will turn out just as good as your other filly.” Momma looked at the Princess with pure confusion on her face. “So you aren’t mad?” Momma asked. The Princess chuckled “Far from it. So your daughter says you made these goodies, is that true?” Momma still in shock nodded her head agreeing. “Well Mrs.Bottom how would you like to work in the royal Kitchen in Canterlot?” Momma’s jaw dropped to the floor. “Yes! Of course Princess Celestia madam!” Momma said kissing the Princess’s golden horseshoe. The Princess chuckled again lifting momma’s head. “Please that isn’t needed.” Momma thanked the Princess one last time. “Well then Mrs.Bottom I now declare you ‘Head Baker’ of the Royal Canterlot kitchen.” The crowd of people all applauded momma as the Princess honored her in front of all of Manehatten.
That day was amazing but what made it even better was what happened just as we were about to leave. The Princess asked me to stop so I did. “And you my little pony I want you to know something.” I gulped in fear hoping she wasn’t mad for ruining her speech. “What you did for your mother took courage and loyalty. I want you to always live your life like that. Don’t be afraid to stand up for what you think is right and don’t be afraid to be loyal to those in your life. I see a lot of good in you Binky.” The Princess lifted my chin up and smiled “Don’t stop being you okay?” I nodded with a smile as I hugged the Princess.
When we got home we started packing for the long trip to Canterlot the next day. “Binky.” Momma called for me walking into my room. “Yeah momma?” Momma sat me down and stroked my mane. “Binky I wanted to thank you.” She said “Well I knew the Princess would love your goodies momma. Everypony loves your food.” Momma chuckled “Well thank you for that to. But what I really wanted to thank you for was for believing me when I lost faith.” Momma nuzzled me “Now I know there was a mix up cause you are too good a filly for me to deserve you.” Momma hugged me gave me a peck on my forehead. “I love you Binky.” She scooted me back into my room. “Now pack your things and go to sleep little one. We got a long trip ahead of us tomorrow.” I trotted back to my stuff and put some dolls and other toys in a box. “Okay momma, Goodnight I love you.” Momma smiled and blew me a kiss. “I love you too baby. Goodnight.”
And that’s how I met Princess Celestia. She’s actually really nice and beautiful if you get to meet her yourself. I’ll never forget that day cause it was my last day in Manehatten. And even though we had move me, Momma and Inky had never been closer. Though I did miss Scarlight a lot we still wrote to each other every day we could and sometimes she came to visit me in our new place in Canterlot. It was days like those that made me the happiest mare in the world. Tell us more stories Grandma Binky! Yeah tell us more! Now now little ponies I have plenty of stories just like that one, you just gotta let me remember.
