Victor had finally caught up with his monster. “Now I have you Monster” he spat at him as he raised his rifle. “Now after all this time you die”.
“Yes, now we both die” the monster retorted.
“Monster, whatever do you mean?” Victor asked angrily.
“Neither of us has enough supplies to get all the way back to the main land. No matter who dies here the other will soon fallow.”
Victor took a quick glance at the various supplies in both their modes of transportation, the monster was right both of them would die in this frigid environment.
“Victor, don’t move” the monster told him.
“Why Monster?” he asked puzzled and angry.
The monster told him “Look down”. Victor did so and saw a huge crack, they where both standing on what appeared to be the covered up top of an enormous chasm.
“Great” Victor retorted “if I shoot you I fall to death, if I don’t shoot you we fall to death, if we try not to fall to our death, we fall to our death.”
“It is quite a dilemma isn’t it, Victor?” the monster replied.
“This is your fault Monster” Victor spat.
“How you’re the one who created me?” the monster explained.
“We wouldn’t be here if you hadn’t strangled my wife!” Victor shouted, and then he cringed and looked down as he heard the ice crack.
“I wouldn’t have strangled her if you hadn’t thrown what would have been my wife into the ocean” the monster yelled, and then his eyes flickered down as he heard another crack.
“I wasn’t going to create a race of monsters that would have tried to one day destroy my own” Victor said trying not to shout.
“And look where that got us.” The monster retorted, calming himself.
Suddenly one of the monster’s dogs howled and Victor turned towards him “I really hate you Monster”.
“I hate you too, Victor” the monster replied.
There was a tremendous crack as the packed snow under Victor and his monster looked down and saw the snow give way.
They were falling faster than Victor thought possible “why does life hate us” the monster shouted to Victor as they fell.
Victor shouted back “Because one of us created it and the other is unnatural”.
“How long do you suppose we’ve been falling” the monster asked.
“About half a minute. How deep do you suppose this chasm is?”
“I have no idea” the monster said.
But Victor wasn’t paying attention to his monster; no he was looking down at the bright thing at the bottom of the chasm. “Monster, what do you suppose that is?” he asked pointing down.
“You don’t suppose it’s Hell and we managed to fall to the only chasm that will lead us directly there?” the monster asked in terror.
“Well looks like we’re about to find out.” Victor yelled in terror.
Victor and his monster clung to each other as they neared the light, they where yelling as loud as they could. There was a flash of light as they fell into the light.
They were rolling and screaming as loud as they could, dirt was flying everywhere. They role into a river and where making such a racket that they attracted the attention of a farm pony who threw a lasso and got them. She reeled them in.
“What the” she said as she looked at Victor and his monster.
The monster broke the rope and ran into the nearby woods. Victor took off his winter coat to reveal his handsome face and his new formal attire. He had a light brown coat and a dark brown mane.
“Who are you?” he asked then covered his mouth, this wasn’t his voice, it wasn’t even his accent.
“Why, I’m Applejack” the pony said.
This was the first time Victor had looked at her, and then he looked down at his hands, no not hands, hooves. He wasn’t in the best mental condition and fainted right then and there.
Victor woke up in a cold sweat; he rose quickly and looked around. All he saw was a small foal with a bow in its red mane.
Victor looked at the décor of the room. He didn’t recognize it “Where am I?” he asked the foal.
“At Sweet Apple Acres, sir” she said pleasantly.
His eyebrows arched “Sweet Apple Acers” he said hesitantly. “How sweet can an apple be, the majority of apples I’ve tasted weren’t that sweet?” he said puzzled.
“Well you’ve never tasted our apples” she said assuredly. Then she turned and called out the door “Sis that stallion you pulled out of the river is awake”.
Victor herd clopping and a few moments later an orange mare entered the room. “How do y’all feel” she asked him.
“I’ll live, but tell me have you seen my…ah…” he was searching for a word that wasn’t monster “companion?”
“You mean the big fella?” she asked him.
“Yes” Victor said quickly.
“No sorry, he ran off as soon as I pulled y’all in from the river” she told him apologetically.
Victor was elated, maybe his monster won’t be discovered and then they can try to find a way out of here.
Victor tried to get out of the bed, after fidgeting a little he managed to get out. He landed on all four hooves and wavered, the orange mare ran to him and put her head under his hoof to stabilize him. Victor pulled away “I need to do this myself.” He told her.
On wobbling legs he made it to the door, he looked down the hall and headed towards the stairs. He was at the top of the stairs. He turned around to see the orange horse and little foal where watching him. He began to descend the stares backwards.
“You walk like me” as shrill voice said as he reached the bottom of the stairs and he nearly leapt back up to the top of the stairs. He descended again and when he turned he found an old pale green horse sitting in a chair. Next to her was a tall red stallion.
The orange mare had descended the stairs she asked him “are you sure y’all can stand?”
“No” he said bluntly. “I need to find my companion” he continued, he hobbled to the door and tried to open it. He simply couldn’t he wasn’t use to using hooves.
The orange mare walked over to the door “here, let me get it” she said.
Victor was contemplating his next move, he needed to make as much friends here as possible, so he turned in the door way and said “forgive me, but I’m afraid I didn’t get your names.”
The orange mare started “I’m Applejack, this is Applebloom, Granny Smith, and Big Mac” she said with a sense of pride about her.
Victor memorized their names for future reference. He turned to see a cyan mare in front of him “AJ who’s your friend” she said then walked past him into the doorway. As she passed him he noticed wings sticking out of her side.
Seeing how the other horses were reacting to this he simply acted like they weren’t there and hobbled past her. Then there was a multicolored flash and the cyan mare was in front of him. Before she could even say a word Victor fainted again.
“Now look what y’all did!” Applejack scorned her. “He’s darn fainted again.
The monster had run into the woods to escape capture and he was smacking himself because he should have taken Victor with him.
He had an idea of where Victor was because he had followed the mare that had reeled him and his creator in. but now he was off the orchard and was terrified that Victor may reveal his existence to the residence here.
The monster was getting thirsty and made his way back the river that they were in. He got somewhat lost and ended up next to a lake. He was thirsty and his immune system was the strongest ever so he figured he could drink from the calm water. He took off his winter gear and went to drink. As he lifted his head over it he saw himself for the first time. He still had the cross stitching but he also had a single horn in the center of his forehead, he jumped back and he felt feathers on his flank he turned his head and saw wings and a odd amount of cross stitches in his thigh. He looked at his other side and saw the stitches were there as well. This was the only symmetrical thing about him, how odd he thought to himself.
He heard a rustlings sound, he turned to see a pale horse with eyes as dark as the night. “Glad to see I’m not the only freak in Equestria” it said with distain.
The monster asked him “who are you?”
There was a silence for a few moments, then the pale horse said “you may call me Lich, I’m heading to the badlands, do you care to join me? The ponies here clearly drove you away too.”
“Ponies?” the monster asked.
“Yes ponies, that’s what the residents of Equestria call themselves” the pale pony told him.
“Tell me more, for I am new here” the monster demanded.
“Very well the first thing you need to know is that there are three types of ponies” the pale pony began “the Earth Ponies, the Pegasus, and the Unicorns like me, there is the fourth race the Alicorn but they are rare, I see your one of them, but I digress” . The pale unicorn told him so much about this place.
After about an hour or so the pale unicorn got up and said “that’s all you need to know to get by. Now tell me do you wish to accompany me to the badlands or not?”
“I am sorry but I must find my creator so we can escape this place” the monster told him.
“Well if you find a way out or change your mind you know where to find me” the pale unicorn told him then disappeared into the woods.
Victor came to, but before he could open his eyes he heard a voice. It was a somewhat annoying voice “But why can’t I throw him a party?” the voice asked.
Victor heard the voice of Applejack “Because he’s in no condition to have a party.”
He heard a quiet voice “Oh, I hope he feels better.”
Then he heard the voice of that cyan pegasus “I say we wake him up, and ask him who he is and why is he so determined to find his companion.”
Victor was about to open his eyes when he heard a new voice “Rainbow Dash, we have to give him the benefit of the doubt.”
Without opening his eyes Victor got up, and rolled over to land on his hooves. He opened his eyes and began to leave the room. “Where do you think you’re going?” the cyan pegasus demanded.
Victor was annoyed “Well, Rainbow Dash I’m going to find my companion then I’m going to get out of here.” He pushed Rainbow Dash to the side “Now, get out of my way wretch!” he shouted as she tumbled through the air.
Rainbow got up quickly and charged him. But Victor had already turned the corner and she smacked into the wall of Applejack’s house.
Victor knew this pegasus wasn’t going to give up easily, he had met the type in university. He knew he couldn’t outrun her, he had seen her get in front of him without a problem. This would mean he would have to out think her.
But then again he needed to make as much friends as possible. He had made it out of the house when the pegasus slammed open the door, she charged him. He didn’t move, she collided with him and they both rolled into a tree.
She was on top of him “How fitting that your that color” Victor said calmly.
“What do you mean?” the statement was unexpected.
Victor looked into her eyes “You’re a lot like one of my friends from university, this was her favorite color” he said softly gesturing to her cyan coat, trying desperately to woo her. Of course this plan was only a temporary solution; if she really was like his friend then she would try to kill him as soon as he told her he didn’t like her. However he wasn’t promised to anyone anymore maybe this could be a new beginning. Nah, it was better just to use this to his advantage as long as he could.
“What kind of friend?”
“Well you’re a smart horse. You tell me.” He said assuredly.
Rainbow’s eyes widened as the realization hit her; she blushed then climbed off of him. “Sorry”.
“It’s perfectly fine…” he paused “My Dear”.
There was the sound of a throat clearing and Victor and Rainbow Dash turned to the entrance of the house. “Can I ask you something” a purple unicorn asked him. Then she flew over to him “What is your name?”
Victor hesitated “My name…is Victor Frankenstein”.
It had been two days since victor had first awoken at Sweet Apple Acers and he had been trying to learn how to walk on all fours. He was leaning on a tree, eating an apple, watching Applejack and Big Mac work. He had discovered that he was a unicorn yesterday when he he'd tripped head first into a tree and was stuck in it for about thirty minutes before rarity had helped him get it out.
It was a beautiful day outside, there was a rainbow in the sky, his thoughts wondered to the last time he had seen a day like this in Geneva. That reminded him of his dear beloved, who was killed by his own creation. This brought him to think of his monster that was no doubtedly going to be a problem if he wasn't dealt with. But another thought crossed his mind we have mutual need, perhaps ewe can work together to ensure we become free from this backwards land of magic . This thought brought him to the days of his youth, when he had studied to be an alchemist. Wait, this is a place of magic, my informal training may very well be put to use here .
He looked up at the rainbow and he had seen it was growing. He knew the weather patterns where directly controlled by the pegasus of this land. His face flashed as the realization of what the rainbow was hit him. He moved back into the shade of the tree. Whenever Rainbow Dash was around things got awkward, his attempts to woo her where a bit to successful, and he was pretty sure that she thought he was playing "hard to get".
Suddenly the rainbow stopped right in front of Applejack and Big Mac, Rainbow Dash was talking with her back to Victor. Big Mac dry heaved and Applejack nearly threw up as her hat fell off. What could be causing them such distress Victor wondered.
Applejack was pointing in Victor's direction and Rainbow Dash looked at him. She flew over to him and was in his face, she backed off with a blush. "Victor" she started "you have to come to Ponyville with the Apples".
Victor was puzzled "why?"
"There's been a murder and the mayor wants all the ponies to come to town".
Victor's mind was reeling A murder, of who, on don't let this be like Geneva. "Who was killed?"
"Diamond Tiara, just a foal!" Rainbow Dash said starting to sob.
"You were close?"
"No"
Victor was truly puzzled now, her reaction to the death of a fellow pony was genuine, perhaps if man where like this then I could have revealed my monster before Justine had been put to death, or even before my brother had been strangled. But this reaction also told him yet another advantage he had over these ponies. He could and would lie to protect himself.
"Then we are to go into town" Victor said trying his best to sound mournful. The truth of the matter was that he was hoping to take advantage of the trip and see how the other ponies lived.
----------------------—-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Victor was leaning on Big Mac as they strolled into the town. "So who is this Diamond Tiara?" Victor asked half heartily.
"She's Filthy Rich's little girl" Granny Smith answered.
"And he is..." Victor trailed off hoping one of them would finish his sentence.
"The richest stallion in all of Ponyville" Applebloom finished.
"Were you and this poor foal friends?" Victor asked facing her.
"No" Applebloom said bluntly.
"Oh, I see. Was she really that bad?"
"Yes!"
"Now, now. You shouldn't speak I'll of the dead, sis" Applejack told her with an authority that Victor had not seen before.
Victor was distracted by something else he had seen. "What's the name of that forest?" he asked pointed with his hoof to the Everfree forest.
"Oh that's just the Everfree Forest. Don't worry none of the things that live there come out, usually."
"Yes, I am completely convinced by your certainty." Victor said sarcastically.
He looked back at the forest, there was a large creature on the edge of it. Victor didn't have to be smart to see exactly what had happened. His monster was hiding in the forest. "This is Geneva all over again" he murmured under his breath.
"Pardon?" Applejack asked.
"Oh nothing." Victor said quickly, not realizing he had said that out loud.
"What's Geneva?" Applebloom asked, apparently having heard him.
"Geneva is the place where I was raised and were my family comes from" he explained deflecting from the rest of his earlier statement.
"Never heard of it!" Granny Smith said a little too loud.
"I wouldn't have expected you to" Victor stated "Geneva is very, very far away in a land called Switzerland."
"Where's that?" Applebloom asked giving him some of the widest eye' she had ever seen.
Those eyes compelled him to tell the truth, but he knew he couldn't "it's deep in the mountains, and far away" He answered vaguely.
"We're here" Applejack announced to Victor.
Victor looked around the tow and found it to look rather quaint. "So, where is this investigation taking place?" He asked half heartedly.
As soon as he had said that another voice came from a In the town "Applejack you're here" it was the voice of Twilight Sparkle. He had been informed of her royal status so he bowed to her, even though not a single pony ever did.
"Howdy Twilight, you remember Victor" she said as she pointed to the bowing Victor.
"Hello Victor, I've told you, you don't need to bow to me."
"Forgive me Princess” Victor said apologetically.
Twilight rolled her eyes, Victor had apologized before for this but he still always bowed to her. “So Applejack, I assume you are the here for the investigation?”
“Yah, can you believe that poor Diamond Tiara was the victim?”
“May I talk to you alone Aj” Twilight whispered in her ear.
“Sure Twilight” she said puzzled.
I don’t like where this is going Victor thought to himself.
“Aj, there are four suspects” Twilight said as soon as they were out of ear shot.
“What? Who?” Applejack stammered.
“There are four suspects and two of them live with you” Twilight said calmly.
“Which two?”
“Big Mac and Victor. It was determined that a stallion was the killer, and they don’t have alibis.” Twilight said explaining to her.
“When was the murder?” Applejack asked.
“It was soon after night fall.”
“Well, there ya’ll go Big Mac was with me and Applebloom around that time.”
“What about Victor?” Twilight asked stealing a look at him.
“He went to bed early” Applejack said.
“Are you sure, that’s a very lose alibi. The investigator won’t like that”.
“Who is the investigator anywise?”
“Sherlock Holmes”.
“That investigator who appeared out of the blue after we destroyed that weird army?”
“That’s the one.”
Victor had wondered off and was walking by an alleyway when he was grabbed by magic and dragged down the alley. Victor tried to open his mouth but it was sealed by the magic.
“Victor, you have no idea how hard it is to find you” said a familiar voice.
“Monster? Why have you done this?” Victor demanded.
“How else was I to get you in town? I made the kill look like you could have done it but I planted that foal’s tiara on another stallion. Don’t worry, you won’t be discovered.”
“Monster, how have these last few days been to you.” Victor asked.
“Well enough but we need to get back to our realm, this place is apparently one of the focal points in between the realms.”
“How do you know this?”
“I met a pale pony who was in the same boat as us. Apparently when he tore a hole in the realm, this realm had been tearing holes into others and sucking things in, like us.”
“So there are more ponies like us hiding among the others?”
“Yes, just thank good god almighty that these inhabitants of Equestria don’t ask to many questions”
“Monster I must go lest they get suspicious of me” Victor said quickly.
“Yes I agree” the monster nodded then disappeared out the back of the alleyway.
“There ya’ll are, we’ve been looking everywhere for you.” Applejack said as he exited the alleyway. “Why were ya in there?”
“Oh, I just saw something peculiar” Victor said vaguely.
“Well the investigator wants to see you” she said.
“Well best not keep him waiting” Victor said with a wink.
“Hello my name is Sherlock Holmes” the investigator said to him. The investigator was wearing a black coat and had a pale blue coat of fur with a black curly mane.
“You’re an Englishman!?!” Victor shouted in surprise.
Holmes recognized his accent and he said calmly “And you’re Swiss.”
“How did you end up here?”
“Shush, Come with me.”
Victor fallowed and so did a stallion that had been standing next to Holmes. This stallion had a pale yellow coat of fur and short cut blond mane. They stopped in an alleyway “Why are we here?” Victor asked.
“By the authority of the land Watson and I are not allowed to discover where we come from in public and we are to pass that message on to anyone we meet along our travels. Now listen I’m not going to condemn you but I have to know, did you kill this foal?”
“No but I know who did it…”
“Don’t tell me I’ll get it was it the red stallion?”
Victor’s face went grim “Sir, My name is Victor Frankenstein and…”
“It was your monster wasn’t it?”
Victor went cold “Ho...How…di…did…you…kn…know…ab…about…my…mon…mon…monster?”
“You’ll meet a captain and he’ll write down your story and publish it. It’s actually a good read.”
“Oh, please I beg of you do not revel my monster to the ponies here” Victor begged.
“I have no such intentions, but tell me is there a reason that I can pin this on someone else. The ponies here do not like unsolved cases…”
“No you don’t like unsolved cased Sherlock” the other stallion said grumpily.
“Watson don’t interrupt” Sherlock scorned.
Sherlock turned towards Victor “Listen I’m going to send a slip to my bank in Canterlot they will send a sum of money to you. You need to make a house on the outskirts of town and begin using your knowledge of alchemy to create a portal to get us all home. But first tell me have you met the pale pony Lich yet?”
“No but my monster has” victor replied.
“That unicorn tore the first portal open and he tries to help us the best way he can” Watson said with bitterness in his voice.
“You know I’m an academic, not an alchemist.” Victor said clarifying.
“Yes, but in your life story it was shown that you spent many years studying to be an alchemist, well here you can put those skills to use” Sherlock said assuredly.
“Watson we’ll be returning to our flat in Canterlot once we are done here, and Victor the funds to build a house should arrive in about two weeks.”
“Right” Watson said as he turned and went away.
“Where’s he going?” Victor asked curiously.
“He’s going to procure train tickets to Canterlot” Sherlock explained to Victor.
“Now I need to pretend to look for the killer, so we can go as soon as possible”.
“Did you notice that she is missing her tiara?” victor asked.
“Of course” Holmes said insulted.
“Well, my monster said he planted evidence in the house of someone he figured that was strong enough to have killed her in that way.”
“It’s a backup plan if they don’t like my excuse to return to Canterlot”
