Smoulder has been living in an orphanage since she was five years old. She was often sneeking out and spending days at a time at her childhood home, getting into all sorts of trouble and just making bad choices. Now when she is fifteen her older sister comes for a visit. But when she sees Smoulder broken and bloody on the ground of her past home, she does what any responsible sister would do. She takes Smoulder to live with her. But why hasn't Smoulder ever left before? Why has she chosen to stay in that horrid city? And why can't she seem to trust her only family?

Prologue

I could hear the eerie sound of his hoofs on the cobblestone road. They were uneven and sloppy. His muffled voice repeating my name over again made my stomach hurt. "Open the door." His commanding voice demanded, if I don't open it he will find a way in. It a guaranty. When I got to the old wooden door he walked in like he owned the place drunk. As soon as he saw me his eyes widened and he smiled, an evil smile that sent shivers down my spine. His light brown horn started to glow.
"Hey babe, come 'ere I gotta present for you," he sang picking me up with his magic and pushing me up against the hard wooden wall. My hoofs were held back with a vibrant green aura that would not let me go.
"Let go you Bastard." I spat tying to get it to stop but he wouldn't. His eyes flashed me pure hatred. I flapped my wings, trying to escape but it was useless, he had a firm grip, his face closed in on mine, I could feel his hot breath on my face. I flapped even harder. Thats when he punched my left wing hard, I could hear all the little frail bones cracking under his force. I yelped in pain, trying to calm myself down. "We broke up! Now go away!" I yelled kicking around, but the more I moved the more my wing hurt.
"Stop. Squirming." He whispered in a deep voice that made my mane stand on edge.
"Fuck you." I whispered back spitting in his eye,
"You shouldn't have done that little filly," Then it all went black.

I opened my good eye hazily, trying to understand my surroundings. It was morning, the birds silent, almost as I they knew what happened last night. Almost as if too keep it all a secret from me. I tried to stand, but my leg was big and swollen, implying a fracture. My flanks were burning, the crusted blood on the mudded ground showed me what he had done, the white heart that was once my cutie mark now has two parallel cuts on each. Marking a "X" right through them. My wings were broken, shattered. All the picture frames in the house were thrown into a pile and burnt. My siblings as fillies with my parents beside them. Their faces cracked through the broken glass. The tears re-wet the blood, they were unstoppable.
"Smoulder?" A quiet gentile voice called.
"Fl-" Was all I could muster before she saw me, her turquoise eyes filled to the brim with tears. The one time she visits me it, it has to be like this.
"Smoulder! Oh dear. You'll be okay ill go get help." She said still quiet as ever, as she fluttered her wings
"Stay." I mumbled closing my eyes. Hoping she would. She stopped and did what she always did when I couldn't sleep when we were younger, she sang me a lullaby.
"Hush now, quiet now
It's time to lay your sleepy head
Hush now, quiet now
It's time to go to bed."
Her voice was as sweet as butter milk and as smooth as silk, it could bring anypony to sleep, even if they are in this much pain. I could feel the hot tears falling faster, blurring my vision completely, her soft pale yellow hoof brushing my messy mane made me feel all the more better.
"Your coming to live with me, this place is no good for a still growing filly. Mom and dad really messed up this time," She mumbled still stroking my mane. "I'll half to tell the girls, about this, do you have a hospital near in Manehatten?"
"Girls?" I asked half asleep, totally forgetting about the pain.
"You'll see," she answered placing a kiss on my forehead. Her soft pink mane was all I could see as I closed my eyes once again.

The smell of hospital filled my nose as I opened my eyes to find myself strapped to a hospital bed, my nose has tubes giving me oxygen and my I.V packet has blood going into my system.
"Hello?" I mumbled into the white room, my eyes barley just adjusted.
"Well look who's finally awake." A unfamiliar voice said smirking. I looked around and finally found who said it. It was a cyan pegasus with a rainbow mane. She was beside a purple alicorn I have never seen before.
"Dash don't talk like that." The purple alicorn scolded Dash.
"Well she is awake," Dash mumbled.
"Who are you! Where is my sister!" I yelled interrupting them. My hoofs were strapped down with leather straps, the same goes for my wings. The purple one turned to look me in the eyes.
"She can't come see you right now." She said as simple as ever. This isn't just something I can ignore. I need her now. More than ever.
"Where are your parents?" She asked me worriedly.
"None of your concern! Where is she!" I demanded, my throat tightened and I could feeling the hot tears fall.
"How long have you been living by yourself?"
"If I answer your stupid questions Alicorn, will I get to see her?" I asked practically spitting each and every word. Thank Celestia I'm strapped down or her horn would be broken.
"Yes, and my name isn't Alicorn it's Twi-"
"I don't give two shits what your damn name is. My parents are not in my life, I have been living alone for as long as I can remember. Now get her."
"Were you attacked Smoulder?"
I could feel the blood leave my face, it just hit me. He came back.
"Hey there little filly are you lost?" A kind colt asked me. He wasn't that much older than me maybe four five years.
"I'm not a filly, I'm ten." I answered meanly. He smiled a evil smile but soon replaced it with a gentile sigh.
"Okay young mare, where do you live?"
"I know where I live idiot!"
"Where are your parents?"
"They left."
"How long ago?" Too meany questions. None of his concern. I turned around and walked towards my house, a little wooden shack on the outskirts of Manehatten.
"Wait up squirt." He called. I didn't wait. What a jerk.
"N-no. I have no idea. And what's with the twenty questions. I want Fluttershy. Now."

Thanks for reading my second story. This one has been in my brain for a bit now but it took me awhile to get it up. I'm sorry I haven't posted since "A dark day" finished. My Internet has been down until recently, I did have three chapters written and everything all setup for this story but my computer crashed and everything was gone. Yay. But I am sorry. I know it's a dumb excuse but ill try to upload soon. I am writing three stories right now, two on wattpad under my name Helphappy and one more on Quotev under jer.090. None of these are about mlp but if you want something to read go check those out. Anyways be safe, take care and have a good week.
