"Ah, my new high school life starts today! I'll probably meet tons of new ponies." I say as I stretch, it was morning so I might as well wake up my body for the coming day.
I walk up to my cabinet and set-up my clothes, I grabbed a towel and went to the bathroom to, as obvious as it sounds, take a bath.
I walk out of the bathroom and I gussied myself up. I was fixing my bag as I heard my mum, telling me that breakfast was ready. I went downstairs and headed straight to the kitchen, I was met by the smell of waffles and syrup, as well as the two smiling figures.
"Good morning, dear." greets my mother, a blue coated unicorn, as she levitates and pours a glass of orange juice for both me and dad.
"Mornin' kiddo." says my dad, also a unicorn, reading the newspaper as usual. Sometimes I wonder if every dad reads the newspaper every morning.
"Morning mum, morning dad." I said as I took a seat opposite of dad's. I started quickly eating my waffles as dad set down the newspaper by his side.
"You better stop inhaling those waffles, unless you want nature to call you early at school today. Try drinking in between breathes." he joked as he grabbed his glass of orange juice and drank it. I also grabbed my glass, and as I felt the orange-y goodness hit my newly brushed teeth I felt ecstasy flow over me... wait, did I say newly brushed? Yes I did.
I coughed out some of the drink that mixed with the taste of toothpaste, I glared at my dad, who was looking at me with a stupid grin. That grin eventually turned into laughter as he slapped his knee.
"Ha! You fell for it!" he said as he finished his glass.
"But..." I could still taste that vile mixture. "how did you not taste it?" I sat there flabbergasted as he looked at me with mirth.
"Well, I didn't brush my teeth, that's all there is too i- Ow!" He looked up at mum, who held a rolled up newspaper, glaring at him.
"You mean to tell me that you haven't brushed your teeth!?" she exclaimed as she readied for another strike, seeing that she was about to hit him, he covered his face as the mare hit his arms. "Go to your room and brush your teeth." She levitated his plate of waffles away from him.
"B-but..." He was immediately shushed by mum.
"Not until you brush your teeth," He looked at her with puppy dog eyes. "not working."
"My waffles..." he sighed as he trudged upstairs.
"So," my mum started, apparently changing the subject. "you're going to your new school today huh?" I finished my waffles and drank some water.
"Well yeah, I suppose. Unless it's supposed to start tomorrow and I'll just waste my time going there and back." I joked.
"You have a point there, but it's a monday today, first day in a school year always starts on a monday." She laughed as she picked up my plate.
"Not really, but it could happen." I looked at my watch and noticed that it was almost time for school. "Well, gotta go, see you mum." I waved at her as she waved back as I straightened out my shirt and walked out of the house and looked at an open window upstairs. "See ya dad!"
"Yeah, see you son!" came out a garbled reply from dad, obviously brushing his teeth.
As I walked the path to Ponyville High, I heard a strange whooshing sound behind me, I looked back and saw a cyan coated pegasus with a rainbow coloured mane flying in my direction. By instinct I jumped out of her way, not even hearing an "excuse me" from the mare.
"Well that's incredibly rude." I said as I continued my way to school. After trudging along the road, I was standing at the front gates which also had several ponies in uniforms along the gates, I walked closer towards one of the uniformed ponies.
"Um... is this Ponyville High?" I asked, you can never be too sure about these kinds of things.
"Yes, are you a new student?" asked the grey coated earth pony. She had a noticeable Trottingham accent, kind of like me. She had grey coat and a coal black mane she was wearing a light grey blazer, with a white undershirt and a black tie. She wore a simple black skirt that, if I knew any better, would mean that she would be part of the student council.
"Yes I am... wait, am I late?" I asked nervously, I couldn't live myself down knowing I was late on the first day of my high school life.
"Oh heavens no." She laughed. "You actually arrived pretty early, so you can visit the cafeteria while you wait for the bell to ring." I nodded at her as I walked forward. I was immediately stopped though when a hand on my shoulder pulled me back. I looked back and saw her holding a pamphlet in front of me. "I kind of forgot to give this to you." She laughed nervously as she handed it to me. "My name is Octavia by the way, and welcome to Ponyville High."
I continued my way to the cafeteria and wasted some time until the bell rang. We entered the gymnasium where our general orientation will take place. We all took our seats as the principal started talking...
That was the most mediocre orientation I have ever attended. No seriously, I applaud the whoever made the speech and planned the topics for actually making the most mediocre orientation ever, and we haven't even started the class introductions yet.
So I walked out of the gymnasium, along with a few hundred students. I felt somepony tap my shoulder, and as I turned around to see who it was, I was immediately hugged by a brown pony.
"Ahahaha! Finally we meet again, eh Mister Droopy?" said an all too familiar voice. I got out of the hug and smiled at the grinning earth pony.
"I see you're as energetic as ever, Sir Boomic." This is Sound Boom, we used to be classmates a couple of years back years back, he had to move here to Ponyville with his family.
We shared a laugh at our old nicknames for each other.
"So how's the orientation? Boring right?" he asked me as we walked.
"Well, not really boring, it was just mediocre... like, really really really mediocre." I said as I made a "so-so" gesture with my hands.
"Isn't that the same thing?"
"Well, boring generally me-" I was cut off as we heard the bell ring, signalling the start of the next session.
"Whelp, I gotta go. I'll see you at the cafeteria later at recess okay?" He left before I could say yes, and I followed suit, running towards our respective classrooms with a promise to meet-up later.
Oh, how terribly rude of me. I haven't introduced myself. Ahem, Hello there readers and viewers and Watchers alike, my name is Dream Loop, and before you make any assumptions, no, I don't go around looking at dreams, I only do it upon occasion... Anyways, on with the story!
We introduced ourselves at class, most of my ponies in my class seem very friendly, though there are the jocks that spout out their achievements like a leaf blower. After my introduction, I heard some of the jocks snickering at the back. Something along the lines of "wimp" and "easy target".
The bell rang and we all dispersed out of the classroom, I headed straight to the cafeteria. I walked up to the brown earth pony waving at me. I sat on the opposite side of the table, and then we started talking about how the first day was for us.
"So, how was your class introductions?" he asked me, full of curiosity as always.
"Well, it went okay. But the jocks were..." I trailed off while drinking my orange juice, trying to find a proper way to describe my "encounter" with them.
"... a bunch of flankholes eh?" He laughed as the orange juice I was drinking went through the wrong hole.
You were..." I coughed. "always more verbal than most ponies." I said as I wiped my mouth with a towel.
"That I am Droopy, that I am." he said as he sipped from a cup of coffee.
"I still can't believe they sell coffee here." I said as I looked at the store where he bought his coffee from.
"Why would you be? I mean, it's not illegal or anything." He took another sip.
"I know, but we're in high school, and too much caffeine is bad."
"So I should feel bad?"
"Yes, yes you should."
After sharing a laugh together, we continued talking about how each others lives were, what happened during each other's absence and such, the bell rang right before he could tell the punchline of a joke he was telling me. As we said goodbye, I felt uplifted, for this looked to be a very promising school year for me.
"Hello there~" sang a thin, middle-aged colt with a white coat and a slightly grey mane. "I am your Homeroom teacher for this school year, and my name is Fine Print. You can call me Mr. Print or Father Fine, whichever is okay with me."
"Sir," said a low, gruff voice ask as he saw a student raising his hand, probably to ask a question. "why are you called Father Fine? You aren't a cult leader I hope." he mocked, trying not to giggle. The student stood up, revealing himself to be a tan coated earth pony.
"I don't like your tone there mister, but I'm glad you asked! Students started calling me Father Fine because of how fatherly I am to them." He looked at him with and smiled. "Does that answer your question?" he asked in a condescending tone.
"Yes..." I heard a small giggle coming from his direction. "yes it does."
"Okay, after that rude interruption, let us continue with class!"
After being introduced to my teachers for the school year, it was finally dismissal time. I packed up my things and headed for the gates.
"You have emptiness in you." I turned to the voice and saw that it belonged to a small little unicorn mare. She was dressed in a Coltorian age dress, with the frills and everything, there was also a strange and serious vibe around her. She was so small and pale that I thought she was a little mannequin at first.
"Emptiness?" I asked as she walked up to me.
"Would you like to know how fast you fall in love?" she asked, ignoring what I said.
"Wait, what?" This girl was seriously giving me the creeps.
"5 centimetres per second." She stared directly into my eyes, as if looking for something inside my soul. She blinked and slowly walked away. "You will feel that in the future."
As she left I found myself dumbfounded from what I heard.
'This will certainly be quite an interesting school year."
Afterschool means trip to friend's house!
I trudged to the gates, but before I even passed them, Sound Boom was already there waving his arms towards me.
"Hey, what took ya so long?" he asked as he walked towards me.
"Was I really gone for that long?" I asked with disbelief and shock. "And you never told me you'd wait for me at the gates!"
"No, not really. You were only gone for like, three minutes. I love the face you did though." He laughed as we started walking down the path.
"So... where do you live now that you're in Ponyville?" I asked as I was sightseeing around town. Who knew they had an arcade? Sweet.
"Oh, just around the block, it was rather easy to find when we got here last year." He said as he scratched the back of his head.
"Heh, likewise." I laughed.
As we approached Sound's house, I saw a familiar cyan figure was standing in front of his house. She noticed us as we approached the front gate.
"Hey, Sound! Can I crash at your place today?" the rainbow-maned mare asked, with a brash and confident voice that, for some reason, fit her perfectly.
"Ah, Rainbow Dash! So good to see you." He smiled at her knowingly. "Have you been acquainted with my best friend here?" he said as he patted my back.
"We have not been properly introduced yet, but I know her." I said in a slightly joking manner.
"Oh, must've heard about the one and only Element of Loyalty and the champion of the Best Young Flyer Competition held last year in Cloudsdale?" She said as she smiled cockily.
"Um... no. I actually caught a glimpse of your mane and coat when you flew right past me earlier before school started." I deadpanned.
"You were that guy!?" she said in shock, then quickly replaced by a bow. "I'm so sorry about that. I was in a hurry to meet my friends at school."
"Well, you apologised for it so everything's good and done now." I smiled as I realised something. "Wait, you're an Element-bearer!?" She stepped back at my sudden outburst, then quickly replacing that action with a laugh.
"Y-you just realised that--" She giggled some more. "n-now?" She continued laughing front of Sound's house as he joined in on the fun as well.
"Yeah, he is pretty slow like that." He snickered.
"H-hey! I'm not slow!" I exclaimed, denying this ruthless barbarian's accusation towards my brain's processing speed.
"Hey, did you just call me a barbari-- wait that's not the point here." He composed himself as he turned to the cyan coated mare. "You were asking if you could stay at my place?"
"Yeah..." She suddenly looks at him mischievously. "unless you want me to be alone in bed tonight." she said in a sultry tone.
I was shocked to say the least, I wondered why the air of friendliness suddenly turned into awkwardness. I looked at him but he just stood there undeterred.
"I'm getting real tired of your shit, Rainbow." He deadpanned as she laughed it off. Wait, did I hear slight hesitation in that laugh? "Anyways, you two can come in." I declined his offer but he insisted that we should relax for the real school days to come. Safe to say that I'm with him on the relaxing part.
We entered his house and I saw that they had it good here. They had all four of the main Ponystation consoles, they even have a NexBox. I saw sat on the couch in his living room as he went off to the kitchen to get some refreshments. Rainbow sat by the telly, booting up the PS3 as she opened a closet by the side of the television containing a load of PS3 titles. I think I saw an Unchartered 3 Premium Edition in there...
"In comes the guests; out comes the refreshments!" exclaimed Sound as he walked out of the kitchen holding a tray of lemonade. He placed them on the coffee table as he glanced at Rainbow Dash. "Hey, are you even paying attention?"
"To your lame one-liners? No thank you." She laughed as she started up a game that I was too distracted to care about. Sound sat by me as we drank lemonade together, with Rainbow too distracted playing some sports game.
"So, how goes the past year; when you first moved here?" I asked as a surprisingly loud "Goal!" came from the telly. 'What is that mare playing? And why's it have to be so loud?' Seeing my annoyed face, Sound picked up the remote and lowered the volume to a more tolerable one. We garnered no response from the mare.
"You could've just lowered it yourself, you know. When she starts playing FEFA, ain't nopony gonna get her attention." He poured himself another glass. "To answer your question, I realised just now that we didn't really emphasise on what happened between the last time we met two years ago and today..."
"Yeah, that's right." I nodded my head in agreement.
"Well, I didn't really do much in your absence. I did get to befriend the six Elements of Harmony though." Just like earlier this morning, I almost spat out the contents of the glass I was drinking. This led to him laughing at me.
"Hey, could you blame me if someone said that they met and befriended the Element-bearers?" It took awhile for him to stop laughing, but he finally stopped.
"Well, no. Honestly though, I wasn't that surprised when I met, or even befriended them." He smiled. "I guess I can handle surprising things more than you do." His smile slowly turned into a smirk for a reason... something sinister I bet. I turned around and was met by a loud screeching noise and a figure came out of nowhere, effectively making me shout like a little girl. I damn these vocal chords yet again!
As I opened my eyes, instead of being met by a a scary figure, I was met by two laughing ponies on the floor. Didn't they know I almost had a heart attack!?
As the laughing died down, I sat there and grumbled something about not going back here again as they both sat down on the couch.
"That was absolutely childish even for the both of you..." I deadpanned at their silly antics. Still though, it was a refreshing break from my serious classmates last year. But I almost had a heart attack...
"Aw, come on! It was just a silly initiation you had to go through." Sound smiled at me.
"For what exactly?" I asked, still not believing what they were thinking when they did that stunt.
"Just making sure you're still the same Droopy two years ago and not some product of distant friendship."
Well that escalated quickly. I thought for sure it was just some prank they would pull on any unsuspecting victim.
"Oh, okay then. Glad we cleared that out."
"I agree with this guy right here!" Rainbow exclaimed as she patted my back. I kind of felt good... wait, what am I saying!?
"S-so... what do you guys often do when you go here at Sound's house?" I asked. I mean, of course they'll go here when they're bored, but they got to go here for group projects and studying... right?
"We just laze around unproductively. My house is a haven for those who seek an end to boredom, if only for a moment." Sound proclaimed proudly. Way to get your own hopes up, Dream.
So after those interesting chain of events, the three of us talked about our different interests and hobbies. Of course Sound's hobby was music, he was into rock two years ago, he learned and listened different artists and genres at the time. I wondered if he got into another genre, so I asked him just that. I have to say though, what he said slightly surprised me.
He was into all of them.
Now, I would expect that from somepony like him, but to actually know it as a fact... it surprised me somehow. He never was someone you could predict well...
So after a couple of hours, I had to say goodbye to both of them since it was getting late. I went back home and I realised something.
My parents are gonna ask me about my first day aren't they?
