Under the Eye of Darkness

Long ago...there was nothing. Nothing but one singular egg. The egg then hatched and from it, came the creator of all life itself- Arceus. Arceus saw the vast nothingness that surrounded him. He sought to change that. It was then that the beings of Time, Space, and Antimatter were created. Using their power, he created a world based on his own design. This world was a world of creatures called Pokémon. He also created other inhabitants which were known as humans. However, they were lifeless and dull. So it was then that the beings of Emotion, Willpower, and Knowledge were created to give true meaning and purpose to these...unique individuals.

Arceus knew that there should be all kinds of Pokémon instead of just one unique kind. So from the very first Pokémon's DNA, he created others. The beings of Sky, Land, and Sea. The beings of Justice. The beings of Truth and Ideals. Even the beings of Dreams. With these "Legendary" Pokémon by his side, they would help him govern all of Pokétopia. And so it remained that way for eons...

The beings known as humans eventually became dominant. They gained far greater intelligence than ever imagined. They captured the Pokémon for their own purposes; such as using them for pets, battling partners, and tools of war. The latter purpose was used in ancient times. Times that Arceus looked back onto his first grave mistake.

Since Arceus was still learning to control his power, it leaked into the world's heart. This was not necessarily a bad thing, for it created life and prosperity. That didn't mean it was all good however. This energy was what caused truths and ideals to clash and wage war. From the negative and positive emotions from the humans along with the powers of Arceus, he unintentionally created the beings of which would one day stand as hope and despair. These Legendary Pokémon were known as Xerneas and Yveltal.

Xerneas was The Goddess of Creation and Harmony, whilst Yveltal was The God of Destruction and Chaos.

Xerneas is a blue and black, quadrupedal, cervine Pokémon with an eight-horned set of antlers extending out from her head, four on each side. Xerneas's coloration changes slightly depending on what 'mode' she is in; Active Mode or Neutral Mode. In Active Mode, each horn is pale gold and adorned with a colorful, three-part glowing protrusion twining through the horn (orange, red, purple, and teal-blue), one side mirroring the other. The colors gradually turn lighter to darker when moving from base to tip. In Neutral Mode, the horns are pale blue and the protrusions the same blue as its upper body. Xerneas's head is blue with two horns on either side of her head, and the root of her horns mark her face, just below the eye and over the nose. Her eyes are the same color as her fur, and her pupils are X-shaped. The blue portion of her body ends at the chest area where the "fur" juts outward to the side, similar to the blue horns on her face. On her breast is an inverted V-shape that is also pale gold in Active Mode and pale blue in Neutral Mode. The inside of the V-shape is black and extends into her lower body. The rest of her body is black with a blue stripe running along her spine; when she is in Active Mode, the shine from her horns decorate her back in small, multicolored spots. She has a slim, fluffy black tail where the blue stripe ends. Her legs are fashioned like blades with forward-pointing "hooks" at the tips, creating a cross shape, with the main "edges" trimmed with the same color as the horns (pale gold in Active Mode, pale blue in Neutral Mode); the trim on her forelegs further map a crude sword-like pattern. Xerneas has the power to share eternal life; this occurs as the horns on her head shine in seven colors. When Xerneas is at the end of her life, she releases all of her life energy into all the living things around herself, and then transforms into a tree to sleep for 1,000 years. Xerneas also has the power to create forests, making Xerneas a benevolent force in nature.

Yveltal was the opposite. Yveltal is a large avian-like Pokémon. His body is dark in coloration and is adorned with grayish patterns along the underside. Yveltal's wings and tails have three points extending along the edges, close to where they meet the body. There are five large claws on each appendage, three of which curve inwards. Yveltal's underside is bright red, with branching, black markings. Similar markings are present on Yveltal's head and neck.Yveltal has a pointed, beak-like snout. Black horns extend from above his blue eyes, with a sharply curved portion pointing forward and thinner prongs facing the rear. A feathery gray ruff encircles his neck and billows out over his back. Yveltal has small, birdlike legs with powerful talons. Like the rest of the underside, the legs are red with black adornments, and the talons are gray. Each foot has two toes facing forward and one pointing backwards. Yveltal has the power to absorb life energy. When he reaches the end of his lifespan, he expands his wings and steals all of the life energy of every living thing around himself before transforming into a cocoon to sleep for 1,000 years.

As the warring humans battled and slaughtered one another, this caused an influx of power in Yveltal. Darkness rose over the Light and balance was shattered in the process. Yveltal thrived in all of this, however, Xerneas couldn't stand such evil and hopelessness. Henceforth, she brought peace to other lands before there was only one left- controlled by Yveltal. The two fought over which should reign supreme: Harmony or Chaos. Not able to reach a decision, Yveltal's patience came to an end and for the first time in generations, he attacked Xerneas! A fellow Legendary being attacked was considered taboo. Xerneas tried to reason with her "brother", but he wouldn't listen to reason. This began the XY War.

Yveltal supported all forces of evil and Xerneas supported all forces of good. They clashed many times over and over. Neither winning nor losing. Until one final day, near the climax of the war, Yveltal and Xerneas took their battle into space and gathered every last bit of energy left in them. They then fired the beams of power at each other and both seemingly vanished in the explosion. Never to be heard from again.

Little did anyone know, the beams of destruction and creation managed to form a planet known as Equi. Here, Xerneas landed her battered form and transformed into her tree form to replenish her energy lost in the battle with Yveltal. This reaction created life all around the world. Forests formed, mountains rose, fields blossomed, and a new type of race was created. The ponies.

As 1,000 years passed, Xerneas awoke and saw what she created. There was so much peace and happiness. Worthy of one word: Harmony. The ponies flocked to her and praised her as their Creator. For many a year, Xerneas was satisfied and was able to rest in peace. But happiness was not to last. For Yveltal, the brother of Xerneas, lived. In the ensuing battle, he was able to land on the moon and transform into a cocoon to replenish his energy. The power drainage caused the moon to be a barren wasteland filled with toxins that made it impossible to live. Yveltal then awoke 1,000 years later (around the same time as Xerneas) and scoured the many seas of stars looking for any sign of Xerneas so that they may finish their battle once and for all.

Xerneas sensed that her brother would arrive and destroy all in sight if he ever came to Equi. Even the excess forces of energy he produced from so far away created vile beasts such as the Changelings, Manticores, Timberwolves, and other foul creatures of the dark. Xerneas knew that going to Arceus was not an option because he believed her dead and wouldn't affair in other's battles. It was then she was struck by an idea. Using her vast godlike power, she created six items known as The Elements of Harmony.

Yveltal finally arrived and Xerneas braced herself for what was to come. All ponies were safely hidden away and watched from afar. The battle then began. Yveltal would not give in to his weaker sibling's power! He'd destroy her, then everything else in her pathetic world! Xerneas fought for her own reasons as well. She'd make sure that the ponies would thrive, spread peace, and let friendship blossom! At last, the moment came. When Yveltal was temporarily weakened by the love all ponies sent to Xerneas, she used the Elements of Harmony to defeat him. As he fell defeated, his power exploded out and created the darker halves of Equi (the places that would be known as Tartarus and the Everfree Forest). To prevent anymore chaos from spreading and infecting the planet, Xerneas created the alicorns. She also entrusted them the Elements of Harmony while she went to the heart of Equi (which would be Canterlot) and exposed all her energy to cleanse the world from Yveltal's poisonous power. She then yet again transformed into a tree and this time, slept in peace for what would soon becom millennia. As for Yveltal, the alicorns took advantage of his weakened state and he was cast away to the deepest pits of Tartarus; never to be seen or heard from again as he could not be destroyed.

Eons past and the XY Battle was a distant memory to all but a few who recorded it in history books. Some say that one day Xerneas would return and spread her warmth to all once more while Yveltal would still be imprisoned. Others thought that the battle would take place again. Those that did, did not know how right they would be...
