01: The Test of Stress

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

I woke to the sound of my alarm clock, also known as Kayla. She was slapping me with a pillow. I don't have my own alarm clock. Her cell phone has an alarm, but that isn't loud enough to wake me up, so she smacks me upside the head with said pillow. I reached out for her face to try and grab it.

"Shut up, mom!" I yelled. I kept trying to grab her face but the light in my eyes blocked me from seeing anything.

"Alright, fine," she said. "Ya happy that I stopped smacking you like every day I do this?"

"A little. I swear, you're going to give me brain damage one day."

"It's just a pillow." she threw the pillow back to her bed at turned her attention to her iPad 4. "It's not like you'll die from a pillow."

"Actually you can. Suffocation."

"You can breathe through a pillow."

"Depends on how dense it is."

"You're such a nerd."

"I prefer 'hardcore student who is a Brony and Whovian who fangirls every time something amazing happens,' thank you very much."

"You're insulting yourself. You know that, right?"

"I prefer complimenting myself." We stared at each other for a long time and soon she started playing Flappy Bird somehow, even though it's a newer version of iPad, and Flappy Bird was deleted from the App Store five years ago. I never had much interest in it. I saw how much she raged whenever she died, so I promised myself to never play that. I Pinkie promised. I think I made the biggest mistake of my life, knowing that it would come back to me one day.

"Flappy Bird," she began. "It would be fun they said. You'll want to keep playing it they said."

"How are you even playing that?"

"I used iCloud to transfer my data from my iPad to my iPad 4."

"Well, In case if you forgot, we have a test today."

"Why must you ruin my day with your 'We have a test today's?!'"

"I told you, I'm a hardcore student. How long will it take you to comprehend that?" We sat there in silence. Whenever we did something like this, we would always be silent for a while. We just sat there for a few minutes, then the bell rang.

"Ah!" I jumped at the sound and fell off my bed, hitting my nose. "Ow. That hurt," I said.

"You're hardly prepared for anything."

"Except tests." I said raising my finger.

"You didn't study didn't you?"

"Not at all, my dear friend! I am a hardcore student, therefore, I do not desire to study."

"Wouldn't a hardcore student study for a test?"

"Studying is for nerds," I shot back.

"Known as you."

"Please stop this nonsense of calling me a nerd. I'm clearly not a nerd. I told you, I'm a hardcore student."

"Then why aren't you studying?"

"Shut up." I grabbed my things and left in a rush, and I thought she would come for me with a pillow, but I left the room to fast for her to react quickly enough, although she did hit my foot with her projectile. I then proceeded to walk towards the classroom, seeing that I was about 10 minutes late. I hope I could do what I saw as a GIF.

Once I approached my classroom, I entered walking backwards, and when the professor turned around, I moved forward, and instead of falling for my trick, he wrote me up. So close…, I thought to myself while walking away from his desk towards mine to take the test. I noticed how my test was already on my desk along with working paper; this was a math test after all.

I made it through most of the test without panicking, oh, and Kayla came in about five minutes after I did. She came in and the professor didn't even notice her coming in. I call complete bullcrap.

I watched as she picked up her pencil and began scribbling numbers and variables and mathematical symbols on her paper. She soon reached a part which I believed frustrated her. You could tell in the way she reached up for her head and grabbed her hair furiously.

Eventually, I reached a part of the test that really, and I mean really, ticked me off, and soon, I too had grabbed my hair in frustration. I believe it was the same part that ticked her off as well. No matter what I tried, I couldn't figure out how to solve the problem. It's as if I had missed a whole day of class. Oh, how I wish Twilight was here, or maybe the Doctor.

I felt like I was going to explode if I didn't solve this problem. I looked over to Jacob and I noticed he was having the same situation as me. I was at the point of pulling my hair out until I felt something click inside me.

Eventually everything became a blur and I thought it was just my vision pulling tricks on me. Soon, I realized that no one was moving except me, so I got up from my seat and decided to look around. I walked towards the professor and he was in the middle of stacking papers; I went to my classmates and their pencils were in the middle of wrting formulas and answers; I finally walked around the school and saw spitballs frozen in mid-air, teachers and students frozen in their tracks, and birds in the air frozen in their position.

I eventually realized that I was the only one who was able to move and had the idea of cheating in this frozen time period, so I went to my room and looked at how to solve the problem. When I picked up the book, I found that items that I interact with can move as well, as long as I keep them in my hands. As soon as I started to understand what was done wrong, time began to continue at its original pace, and I heard the chattering of students and yelling of teachers.

"Wait a min- nonononononono!" I exclaimed as I ran down the hallways after I threw my book onto my bed. I ran down the halls as swiftly as I could to get back to the classroom. Once I got back, Jacob wasn't there anymore, and the professor stared at me with a strange look on his face.

"I have no explanation for what just happened," I told him.

I still had trouble with the problem, and I looked over to Kayla to see how she was fairing, but when I looked, she was no longer there.

Pretty soon, something clicked inside me and I disappeared from the classroom and found myself in front of a Pokémon. I had no idea what was going on, but I was staring straight at Professor Oak.

Soon, he asked me the most ridiculous question in the history of riduculous questions.

"Are you a boy or a girl?" he asked me. I just stared at him with disturbance in my eyes.

"What do you think I am?!" I asked in sarcastic rage. "I mean seriously! Why do you ask that question whenever it's completely obvious and in front of you?! It's your stupidity! I mean, really! Are you blind?!"

"Well, uh-"

"Just who do you think I am?! A transgender woman?! I am Jacob Farsley! The name should tell you everything about my gender!" And a second later, I was swept away again.

Pretty soon, I was back in my classroom. "And one more thing Oa-" I looked around and took in my surroundings. "Ooooooohhhhhh." I took a deep breath and prepared myself for the lecture that was about to come out of the professor's mouth and into my ears. "I was just talking to Professor Oak in the Pokémon universe with a Charmander, Squirtle, and Bulbosaur watching me yell at him for asking me the stupidest question in the world."

"Well," he began, "it's one thing to lie to your professor, but it's another thing for you two to disappear out of my classroom and come back with no explanation," he gestured towards Kayla, "and be carrying over and conversation with a, uh."

"Video game character."

"Right. Now, because you two have done this, I, as a professor, have no idea what to do."

"Let us continue our test?" Kayla asked.

"Um. Alright, but I want you two to see me after class for this"

"Yes, sir," we responded.
