Reword of: A segment from a chapter in the novel The Postmortal

Applebloom brought a ladder against the cannon, wired the charge, and dropped it in the bottom of the tube. After that, Scootaloo put on her helmet and advanced towards to the pony-missile silo. She turned to Applebloom and Sweetie belle.

"This is gonna work, right?" She asked.

"Absolutely!" Applebloom lied. "That thing'll shoot you right to the heavens!"

"Sweet!."

Scootaloo began scaling the ladder. Applebloom turned towards Sweetie Belle and shrugged. She had no real clue whether the charge would have the desired effect. At the top of the cannon, Scootlaoo jumped into the barrel and slid down to the ground. Applebloom asked Scootlaoo if she was ready.

"Let's fly, I want to touch the sky!"

Applebloom grabbed the charge remote and lept behind cover with Sweetie Belle. She opened the switch. Suddenly, the entire vibrant mood of the scene flicked off, an aura of unease and tension taking it's place. But Applebloom didn't allow it to linger for more than a split second. She plunged the button down, and the bottom of the cannon made a loud sneeze. A few stray bits of Scootaloo flew out of the top and landed on some of the surrounding concrete. The top of the cannon began to smoke, like a novelty-sized cigarette. Applebloom and Sweetie Belle rushed over and knocked on the side of the cannon.

"Scootaloo?"

There was no answer. Applebloom pushed on the side of the cannon until it fell to the ground. The two ponies looked in the opening at the bottom. Some of Scootlaoo remained, the rest was ash, never even close to touching the sky.
