Starting Anew

Awkward Moments and Tight Underwear

Previous Chapter

Knock! Knock! Knock! The sounds of fist meeting wood resounded through my otherwise silent room, causing me to groan in frustration, hoping that whoever was knocking would somehow vanish.

Knock! Knock! Knock! The series of knocks still doing nothing but annoying me. I rolled around in my sheets grabbing a pillow to shield my ears from the knocking.

After a few seconds of silence, I had figured, Hm. Maybe it’s over. Only for a roar of anger to meet my ears some seconds after.

“Spike! Wake up! You have company!” With that I rolled over to face the door whilst rubbing the ‘sand’ from my eyes, then opened them lazily just as the door flew open, wrapped in a coat of purple magic revealing a fuming Twilight, and a shaking teen, who I’d recognized from yesterday as Diamond Tiara. While the situation I was in would seem quite dire, I wasn’t afraid in the least; this happens every Saturday.

“Spike! Get up!” As these words reached me I was lifted into the air, whilst yawning, and dropped gently onto the floor; even when she’s furious, Twilight still couldn’t hurt her ‘Number one Assistant’ and at this I chuckled.

Twilight let out a frustrated groan at my lazy chuckling, mistaking it as being disrespectful or something along those lines, and stormed out of my room, leaving me and Diamond alone. She made her way to my bedside, and decided to speak her mind, “She’s been trying to wake you up for half an hour… she’s terrifying when she’s angry.”

“Well. I was tired, and Twilight’s not that bad. I mean, you saw how she barged in here, screaming her lungs out, and totally angry, right?” I replied, now sitting upward with a smile plastered on my face.

“Yeah?” Her face the picture of confusion, probably wondering where I was going with this.

“Well. When she lifted me into the air, even through all her anger, she placed me down gently. Even when she’s angry, she’s level-headed and somewhat kind; she could’ve slammed me on the ground, but she didn’t.” Happiness filled my voice, as I remembered all that Twilight’s done for me. That girl is practically my mother, so it’d only be fair of me to talk highly of her.

“Oh… okay.” Diamond responded weakly, seemingly put off by my praise, while rubbing her arm awkwardly. It was rather adorable. “S-so like, what are we doing today?”

Maybe she’s just nervous, or something.

“Diamond relax, we’re just two friends hanging out together, you don’t have to be so nervous. Oh, and I’m making you breakfast after I get my chores done.” That seemed to do the trick, as I rose from my bed, stretching, and grinning at the satisfying pops I received in kind. My eyes closed shut while I stretched, something that was more habitual than anything.

As I smacked my lips, I opened my eyes reveaing a heavily blushing Diamond Tiara.

Well, wonder what has her so red…

“Hey, why are you blushing?” I asked, confused by the cute blush adorning her features.

After a second, or two of us staring at eachother, a stray thought entered my mind.

Is it me, or is it a little breezy in… here?… oh no.

As I direct my stare to my own body, and back to the blushing Diamond, finally seeing the connection. I was in nothing but my underwear, another one of my habits that just came back to bite me.

Her gaze was fixated on my well toned body, something I earned helping out AJ with her farm work, while Big Mac was off to college those years.

I could do nothing but blush as she stared at my exposed body. Not saying I didn’t enjoy the attention, but it was cool a minute ago… it was getting a little creepy now.

“Um… I should just get some clothes on… if you don’t mind leaving me alone for a sec. I’ll be fast, just uh, head downstairs, and wait in the kitchen, or something.” I made my way towards my closet to pick out an outfit, but instead settled in a purple robe, a robe that I’d grown quite attached to. Diamond Tiara, must’ve gotten enough of my body memorized, and left me to get dressed.

After looking myself over in the mirror, I was sure that I looked good enough to head downstairs. As I left my room and made my way down the staircase, I could hear girly giggles, and so I decided to listen in. If they were laughing surely they were discussing a joke, or something along those lines, but it seems that I’d receive something far worse.

“I-it was like, huge Twilight!” Diamond Tiara laughed, alongside Twilight, “like, this big!” She paused to gesture, or at least, that’s what I had assumed.

“Yes Diamond, Spike has always been that way, I’ve simply chalked it up to his dragon heritage, but it does~ make me a little proud.” Twilight admitted with a giggle.

Please, by the sweet name of Celestia, please~ be talking about my feet or something.

After breaking into more laughter, I had decided the girls had enough fun, and I made my way down the stairs. Only to see the two of them sitting at the kitchen table, snickering at my sudden appearance. “What’s so funny?” I asked, a bit irritated by their giggles, but I still smiled nonetheless.

“Nothing~” Diamond answered, sharing a devious look with Twilight.

“Good to see you guys are friends and all that, but I have some breakfast to prepare, so if you don’t mind...” I stated, making my way over to the stove, away from the ridiculous giggling.

“Well, it was nice meeting you Diamond, and we definitely need to hang out more, but I have to do... Princess things!” Twilight exclaimed. "Yeah, Princess things."

“You know Twi, if you’re gonna visit that Flash Sentry guy, you only have to say. It doesn’t bother me.” I assured her, she’s not the best at lying anyways. Trust me, I could tell, and just judging by her immediate pause, I was correct with my assumption.

“F-for the last time, there’s nothing going on between us… i-it’d be unprofessional of us to do so…” I looked over with a deadpan expression, she really sucks at lying. Especially to me.

“So what you’re saying is, you’re not going to the Crystal Empire for three days, and you’re just going to go do ‘Princess things’?” As I grabbed the egg carton from the fridge, I didn’t need to turn back to know I’ve won, as I heard the door open, then close.

“What was that about?” Diamond was clearly confused by our little brother-sister exchange.

“She totally has this thing for one of the guards in the Crystal Empire; this happens every other week, too.” I grinned as I continued pulling items from the fridge.

Diamond gigged at this. I really liked her laugh. “Spike, do you have a thing for anyone?... Like, anybody at all?”

Well. That was out of the blue

“No… not at the moment, why do you ask?” I looked back from cracking the eggs in an attempt to meet Diamond’s gaze, but once again, she avoided mine.

“No reason. I was just, like, curious is all.” Her answer was understandable, so I just got back to doing my thing.

“Does anybody have their eyes on you?” I guess she was just trying to converse, so I saw no harm in giving in.

“Well, I heard, that Sweetie Belle had a crush on me for a while, but I guess that was because I was around a lot... back… then.” Just as the words left my mouth, my thoughts moved to darker places. Memories of Rarity came flooding back.

“What do you mean?” She asked, completely oblivious to my current emotional pain.

“I… used to help Rarity make dresses. I used to come over just about every day. I helped her get known too, but I couldn’t tell her that… I just wanted to see her smile.” I chuckled sadly, getting back to the task at hand.

“Oh… sorry I brought that up. I was being dumb, and I’m so-” Before she could finish an apology, I had cut her off. Couldn’t have her thinking it was her fault, now could I?

“Stop! You didn’t do anything wrong, I mean, you couldn’t have known the answer to something like that if I never told you it.” I paused as I emptied what I had mixed onto the stove, and continued making breakfast.

“So Spike, what do you, um, like to do? I mean, we barely know anything about eachother, and I’m sitting here while you’re making me breakfast.” I shrugged passively at this.

“Well, I like to play piano, read a lot, play games, do chores, help out with chores, make lists, send letters to the Princesses, practice sword fighting with my brother, dance, eat gems, watch foals, watch pets, write stories, write poetry, visit my pet phoenix, and other stuff.” I stated proudly, glancing over my shoulder, to find a slack-jawed Diamond Tiara, sitting there. “Uh… Diamond, what’s with that look?” I asked snickering like an idiot.

Damn, I knew I had a busy life, but come on! She’s slack-jawed! I’m not that~ cool. Am I?

“Wow. I didn’t think you were so… just… wow.” Her words caused me to grin sheepishly. I wasn’t somebody who was frequently praised, even if I saved an entire empire from being enslaved, and earned the title of ‘Crystal Savior’ the praise never came.

“Gee, thanks.” I replied, grinning ear from ear.

How could anybody hate this girl, she’s really nice and stuff. People are just idiots, I guess.

“You know D, I don’t know all that much about you.” I said while flipping some pancakes that I had put on the stove soon after the eggs were done. I would throw in gems, but I doubt Diamond will be happy with choking to death.

“Well, what do you wanna know?” She asked from the table, I paused for a second to turn around with a dumb grin on my face.

“Absolutely everything.” Damn, I am a smooth operat-

“That’s like, really creepy, but okay.” She giggled.

Or~ not.

“Well, I’ll just tell you starting from when I can remember.” She added, grinning at me, as I turned back to flip the pancake before it burned.

“Well, before you tell me this, do you want some french toast too?” Judging by the audible rumbling from her stomach, the answer would be a yes.
