Hold Me
Animal Shelter
Previous Chapter"Bye girls! I'll see you tomorrow after school, I'm sorry I can't hangout with everyone..." Fluttershy sighed and looked down hugging the books to her chest.
"It won't be the same without you Shy. You sure you don't want me to stick around and wait for you?" Rainbow asked again as she leaned up against the nearest locker.
"Oh heavens no... I couldn't ask you to do that. Go hangout with the rest of the girls." Flutters insisted.
"Alright" Rainbow nodded, "I hope it's not too boring for you" Rainbow smiled and headed off with the girls with a small wave.
With that Fluttershy let out a held breath and slowly turned to open the door of the detention room. As soon as she placed her hand on the knob a few thoughts ran through her head. What if she went in there and there some mean kids who bullied others? Or just nasty people? She sure could use Dashie in there with her. Unfortunately, she had to do this alone, so, with a sigh, she opened the door and walked over to Cheerilee.
"I'm uh.. Here for detention Ms. Cheerilee." Fluttershy looked down at the floor, unable to look Cheerilee in the face.
"Oh my, Fluttershy! What did you do to get in here? Of all people, I never thought I'd see you here after school." Cheerilee looked at the shy women who was hiding behind her bangs.
"I was... Really late to class..." Flutters frowned.
"That happens a lot. Sit up front, honey, and do your homework." Cheerilee smiled and directed her to the first table, away from any other people.
Fluttershy took her seat and sighed. It was so awful for her not to have her critters around her; it felt lonely.
Moxie fumbled with the keys Fluttershy gave her as soon as she got to the shelter. She managed to try every single key on the key ring twice nut she still wasn't in the building.
"What the hay..." She glared at the keys and then noticed one marked with 'A.S.' written on a strip of tape. She face-palmed and slid the key in the lock, finally getting the door open. When she nudged the door open Forest, the little conniving fox he was, hopped out of her backpack and made a bee line for the back. Moxie flicked the lights on and headed towards the back as well. As she arrived she noticed the door to the back was already open. She poked her head in and saw Forest unlocking cage after cage, and she swore she could hear the little devil laughing. He first got to the hamster cage, then the cats, and finally, with a bit of hesitation, the dogs. He had managed to let them all out, and, seeing his chance, ran for the rabbits to pester them.
"Oh no oh no oh noooooooooo," Moxie whined.
Everywhere she looked animals were running after each other, knocking things over, and letting out the few remaining animals. It was a disaster! Just as she thought things couldn't possibly get worse she heard the bells above the shelters door ring, signalling the door had opened. Moxie ran to the door as fast as she could. A little too fast, as she had to grab the corner of a wall to turn and slow down. She got to the door just in time to see a couple of cats running for it. Luckily, the guy who opened the door caught this as well and closed it as quickly as he could behind him. The guy was blonde with green eyes and, to be honest, looked a little goofy. Moxie looked to the guy with a sad smile.
"Hello and welcome to the animal shelter... Uhm... We are in a bit of a mess right now. Were you looking for a certain pet?" She said while trying to catch a cat that scurried past her feet.
"Hey... My name is Tara! Do you need help, miss? Usually stores don't let their animals run free..." He trailed off as he spoke.
"Oh no... It's not your job to round these pets up, it's mine.,. I couldn't let you do my job for me..."
"Well just consider it letting me check out my pet before I adopt it." He smiled with a soft chuckle.
"Okay... Any ideas on what to do first?" She wondered out loud more so then asking him directly.
"Miss, a question. When you feed the pets do you do anything special prior to feeding them? Perhaps ring a bell or sing a little tune?" He ask watching a little Corgi run in circles after it's own tail.
"Mhm... We press a button in the back with the cages and it makes a cute little chirping noise. Why do you ask?"
"Well there was this little experiment called Pavlov's Dogs... And, well, just play it louder, if you can, and I'm sure they will come running and drooling." He smiled gesturing towards the door where the animals are normally kept.
Catching the last part of that, Moxie looked at Tara with a questioning glance. "Huh?"
She shook it off and walked into the room, making sure to leave the doors wide open. As she walked in she went to the opposite wall and pressed the small button. Suddenly, a chirping was heard in the store. Within a moment, the store grew quiet immediately followed the sound of a lot of paws hitting the floor at once. The faster animals such as the dogs and the cats made it there in mere moments, skidding to a stop before the women at the button. The dogs backed at her with drool cascading out of their open maws. Moxie looked to Tara and smiled.
"Thank you! Now quickly, close the door for me please. I'll grab the food."
The boy made his way to the door in a hurry, so fast that he tripped over his own feet and landed face first on the floor. A stampeding group of bunnies trampled over the poor guy on their way to the chirping. The boy got up and closed the doors, which were no more then a few feet away. He sighed, knowing full well that the girl had seen how much of a fool he was. He laughed at himself and walked over to the girl.
"I got the door.. But you should probably feed them, they are probably expecting some food." He said, hoping she wouldn't say anything.
"You're probably right! Hey, how do you know these things anyway?" Moxie asked while she opened the closet filled with various types of pet food.
Almost relieved that she didn't notice what happened to him, he smiled. "Why it's nothing special really... I just take Psych in school and this was an experiment."
"Well thank you." She said in a sing-song voice, "Oh, and my name is Moxie, if you didn't know."
"Nice to meet you."
Moxie and Tara went about feeding the animals and luring them back into their separate cages with treats and more food. Moxie didn't like that she was going to have to explain what happened to all the treats, but it was better then letting Fluttershy know all the animals got loose. It took them a while, and Tara began to wonder how he got looped into all of it, but they finally got done around 5. Just as they finished the bells from the front door rang again followed by a soft voice.
"Hello? Moxie, where are you?" The voice called out.
"Oh, I'm back here Flutters!" Moxie called back in her normal happy sounding voice. Right before Flutters got back to where Moxie was, Forest sat at her leg and pawed at it, looking up as if he was begging for forgiveness. Moxie shook her head and picked the little scamp up, cradling him.
"Oh, I didn't realize you were with a customer..." Fluttershy said as she peered her head in and noticed the grey boy next to Moxie.
"Yeah! He came in looking for a pet and he decided to help me feed them. Isn't that right Tara?" She smiled turning to the embarrassed boy.
"Ah well... It was nothing. I figure I don't have much else to do, and I even got a good look at the animals." He smiled, rubbing the back of his head.
"Oh okay... I'm glad everything is okay. If you want you can take Forest out now that I'm here."
"Oh no, he has been a bad fox and he is going to pay for it." She smirked at the fox and the hurt look in its eyes.
Meanwhile a long hair black cat caught Tara's eye and he crept over to the cage and began to pet him. Moxie noticed this and walked over to him with a bright smile.
"His name is Monster! He is the most lovable ball of fluff you will ever know." She smiled, setting her fox back down, this time keeping an eye on him. He didn't stray far from Moxie's leg, clinging to it as if it were his only lifeline. Fluttershy smiled, knowing full well that Moxie had this under control, and walked past the front counter and back into the break room. She smiled, set her bag down on the table and walked back out, ready to begin her day of work.
Author's Note
Okay! To start off I'm going to list the OCs in this chapter and link you to a picture if possible. One reason is just to show off my friends art work lol.. No really it is because I honestly don't think I describe things well.
Secondly, yay for a new chapter!! Sorry about this chapter not having to do much with FlutterDash, but I plan on making this something bigger in the long run. Don't worry FlutterDash will be my main focus :) Love you all. Pavlov
