The 35th Annual Equestrian Battle of the Bands*

She lives with her best friend/best roomie Octavia, who is a cellist, though Octavia is growing impatient with Vinyl's overstuffed ego. How dare she take 3 seconds to sign several posters and pose for pictures with fans.

One day her friend and co mixer Neon Lights brings her a cd of a band (GREEN DAY PONIES). He plays one particular song that Vinyl starts to dig at first, until she hears the lyrics

Someone kill the DJ. (Shoot the fucking DJ!)

Someone kill the DJ. (Shoot the fucker down!)

Vinyl doesn't react much more, which worries the both of them. When the song ends she calmly takes the record, tosses it out the window and blasts it with a shot of magic. Uber-violently. NOW SHE'S RIP-ROARING PISSED!

Reacting to her furious anger she crashes an underground rock club to have a violent word with the band.

This happens.

Shots are traded until both are at each others throats.

"Said the pony of electronic farts!"

"At least my electronic farts are punk!"

Eventually a three on one brawl ensues between them.

As the weeks turn into months, the news breaks out that they are now musical nemeses and the media has field day after field day with it.

Vinyl is still in a bad mood with Octavia failing to console her friend.

Neon swings by again, with good news this time. He shows them a flier for the 35th Annual Equestrian Battle of the Bands*. The asterisk means that "band" branches out to solo artists so as not to leave anyone left out.

The winner of the contest receives bragging rights made official by Princess Celestia herself. You don't want to know how they convinced her to do it.

(They just asked nicely)

"Whoa..."

Vinyl heads down to sign up at the exact same time as GREEN DAY PONIES do. Both vow victory against the other with a bet on the side. Octavia tries to stir her straight but Vinyl is too blindly mad at "those not-punk heads" that she accepts.

Loser (or whoever loses first in the contest) must admit their inferiority to the other and give up music FOREVER!

Actually they don't do that because that's stupid and overly dramatic. So they settle on buying the other one dinner. Loser's choice.
