Diamond Tiara sat alone in the schoolyard, as usual. Her cyan blue eyes scanned the area nervously. The teacher, Mrs. Maple, trotted over and sat down next to her, adjusting her small glasses before speaking. “Diamond, are you okay?” The kind teacher asked her student. Diamond managed a fake smile and nodded. “I’m fine. Just tired.” She said, faking a yawn. Mrs. Maple nodded and stood up, obviously buying the act. “Alright, just call me if you need anything.” And with that, he trotted back into the schoolhouse.
“Are you ready to depart Mrs. Tiara?” Asked a deep voice with a thick Canterlot accent. The pink filly flicked her ear and looked up, seeing her butler, Alfred. “Yes.” She replied wearily, standing up and following her butler as the trotted to the Rich Mansion.
Filthy Rich was outside the mansion, waiting for them. He looked solemn, like always. Filthy didn’t care much of his daughter, he cared more about his money. “Diamond Tiara.” He greeted his pink daughter.
“Father.” Diamond Tiara said simply, then trotted inside, seeing her great grandfather, Stinkin’ Rich laying limp in the chair. Just like Filthy didn’t care for Diamond, Diamond didn’t care for Stinkin. Though Stickin’s name was meant to mean that he was really rich, he sure did stink. Diamond Tiara wrinkled her nose as she trotted past the smelly old stallion and upstairs to where her mother usually made jewelry. The only pony she cared for truly was her mother, Diamond Song. She was inspiring in many ways, as well as an amazing singer and an amazing jewelry maker.
“Filthy, I told you I didn’t want to-” Diamond Song began in an irritated voice as she turned around, only to stop in mid sentence. The pony standing there wasn’t Filthy. it was Diamond Tiara. Song trotted over to her daughter and hugged her tightly. “I’m sorry I thought you were Filthy..” She said, stroking Tiara’s mane. Tiara looked up at Song, slightly confused. “Don’t want to what?” She asked, letting go of her mother. Song hesitated a little before replying. “Your father and I aren’t getting along that great..” She said slowly, almost sadly. Her once glowing diamond blue coat seemed faded, and her once bright purple eyes seemed dull and lifeless. Sighing, the beautiful unicorn mare sat down on a couch in the corner and motioned for Tiara to sit with her. As the pink filly trotted over, Song untied her toothpaste like mane, which was a gray-ish pink.
Song’s mane was like Tiara’s, and Tiara smiled when she saw Song’s mane. Tiara thought her mother was beautiful, and wanted to be just like her one day. It made her happy that she resembled Song instead of her father with his greasy black hair and trash brown coat.
“I don’t know if Filthy told you this, but you two might be moving to Ponyville.” Song began, awaiting her daughter’s reaction. Tiara’s happy smile faded into a frown, her eyes wide. “B-but why? Can’t I stay here with you? Can’t you come with us?” The filly whined.
“I...I’m afraid I can’t. I would like you to stay with me but Alfred has been telling your father and I that you are alone at school. Your father and I both think it would be best if you try and start over in Ponyville.
Suddenly, Tiara’s vision went fuzzy as her eyes welled up with tears. It was true, Tiara was bullied at school for being a blank flank. She’d never wanted her parents to find out, especially her mother. And now they knew. Tiara felt a hoof rubbing her back, and she looked up, seeing the fuzzy blue outline of her mother. “Why didn’t you tell me?” Song asked her filly, her voice cracking with sadness.
“I....I just...I didn’t want you to be sad!” Tiara replied through sniffles and sobs. That ‘plan’ had sounded better in her head..
“It makes me sad that you didn’t tell me.” Song replied, wiping her daughter’s eyes with a tissue. “Now, go clean up. Your father has a friend coming over.”
Diamond Tiara nodded and slid off the couch, rushing to her room where she could cry while she washed her hair and her hooves.
After about an hour of sobbing and cleaning, Diamond looked in the mirror at her newly styled mane. She had brushed it flat, then put it up in a small beehive style. She then added the finishing touch; a diamond barrette. The pink filly placed it next to her ear and admired it the mirror.
“Diamond Tiara!” Called the stern voice of her father from downstairs. “Come down here right now!”
Diamond nodded and trotted out of her room. Though she knew she had done nothing wrong, she still got nervous when her father spoke like that. Skipping down the steps, the nervous filly confronted her father, half smiling. “Y-yes...?”
“The guests are almost here! You should’ve been down here a while ago.” Filthy scolded then went back to what he did best, ignoring Diamond. The pink filly sighed and stood regally next to her father, her head held high. A few minutes later, the doorbell rang throughout the house, snapping the filly out of her daydream. Filthy nodded towards one of the butlers, who opened the door. A large, dark blue stallion with a black mane trotted in, and so did a young filly. Diamond’s eyes widened and her jaw dropped, seeing her worst bully, Obsidian. Obsidian rose her eyebrow and pursed her lips, looking Diamond up and down. “What are you doing here?” She asked, disgust in her voice.
“I live here.” Diamond Tiara said through gritted teeth, her eyes narrowed in hate. Filthy looked at the two girls. “Why don’t you take your friend upstairs so you can play?” He said, though it was more like a command then a request. The pink filly sighed and began to trot to her room, when she tripped over something, landing on her face. Looking up, she saw Obsidian with her hoof outstretched so she could trip Diamond. Obsidian pulled back her hoof and grinned at Diamond before trotting up the stairs, not waiting for the pink filly to get on her hooves again.
“What is this?” Obsidian asked, wrinkling her nose as she looked at one of Diamond’s designer dresses. Diamond rolled her eyes. The dress was top quality everything! Brand, jewels, fabric, stitching. “It’s a dress, duh.”
“Sure it is.” The purple coated brat replied, tossing the dress on the ground. She then turned, focusing her cerulean eyes on the other filly. Flipping her light pink mane off her shoulders, Obsidian began to speak. “You are such a loser, you know that right? I mean, your clothes, your house, your blank flank..” The filly began. Diamond’s ears went limp.
“And your hair!” Obsidian laughed and took some scissors from Diamond’s ‘craft desk and quickly snipped some of her mane. “Now it’s even worse!” She said while laughing.
“Wh-” Diamond began but she couldn’t finish, she just couldn’t. Her once long, cupcake frosting like mane was now shoulder length and unevenly cut. It didn’t look that bad actually, but the jagged edges made it look like she had gone to a careless hair dresser. Diamond furrowed her brow and stomped her hoof. “Out! Get out!” She shouted, raising her hoof and pointing it towards the door. Obsidian looked surprised, even a little scared. “F-fine. I don’t want to be here anyway. Being around blank flank losers like you makes me sick.” And with that, the petty filly stomped out of the room, her nose lifted high in the air. As soon as Diamond heard her hooves on the last step of the stairs, she raced over to her mirror, trying to find a way to fix her hair.
Diamond Tiara went to bed with her mane fixed. She had clipped it so had a curved point at the end. The style matched her tail, and she thought it looked quite good like that. But, she could only wonder what her mother and father would say. Would they question her? Would they punish her? If they did question her, would she make up a story or tell the truth? Diamond’s head was spinning, so she laid down on her bed and tried to go to sleep.
The next morning, Diamond Tiara leapt out of bed, brining some of her covers and blankets with her. She opened her closet door and chewed her lip. How was she supposed to pack all of this on her own? “Alfred!!!!” She shouted. She would definitely need the help of her butler.
Alfred walked into her room, bowing slightly before speaking. “Yes, Ms. Tiara?”
“I need help packing my stuff.” Diamond replied, grabbing some suitcases and bags from the closet shelves. She never thought she’d use these.
“Ah, thats right. You are departing this afternoon. Well, I will help you, and we will have this done in no time.” Alfred replied as he began to levitate her belongings out of the closet and organizing them into different catogories and eventually, suitcases. Diamond helped him as best she could, grabbing dresses and folding them, placing jewelry carefully inside boxes and then in the suitcases. After about a half an hour, they were done. Diamond smiled. “Thanks Alfred.”
“You are very welcome Ms. Tiara. Shall I call the others to help you with the rest of these?” Alfred asked. He had already levitated five bags, and it seemed he could not carry anymore. Diamond nodded. She wanted to help but she knew her father would get mad. “Yes please.”
The butlers were there in no time, picking up the bags and placing them on their backs or carrying them with magic. Diamond followed them to the door, then stopped, turning to look at her room. It was completely empty, except for the bed and the dresser. Sighing, the pink filly trotted after the butlers, who were waiting for her at the stairs. She skipped down the spiraling staircase, finally reaching the bottom. She saw her mother and father there. Her mother was smiling and her father was discussing business with a butler. Diamond ran up to her mother and hugged her, sniffling a little.
“You’ll see me soon. I’ll always come to visit you.” Song said as she comforted her daughter. Diamond nodded and looked up at Song, half smiling half frowning. “I love you.” She said then pulled away. Song nodded. “I love you too. Now, you must get going. The train is going to leave soon, I’ll accompany you there.”
They reached the train station all too soon. Diamond Tiara stepped onto the train, racing towards the window so she could wave to her mother. Sorrow kept a frown on her face as she waved, though she tried to smile. The train started moving and soon, Diamond had to move her head all around to try and get a good view. Soon, all too soon, she could not see her mother anymore. The pink filly sighed, climbing down from the window and hurrying to her private cart so she could cry in peace. Once she reached the cart, the tears started flowing. Tiara had barely gotten her butlers out in time. Slamming the door, the young pony jumped onto her bed, her face landing in the pillow.
Diamond awoke to the sound of loud, squeaky trains brakes.
“Diamond Tiara! We’re here!” Called the stern voice of Filthy Rich. Tiara groaned and pulled herself out of bed, slowly trudging over to the mirror and looking at her mane. It was messy, and a little moist, as expected. So, she picked up a comb and gave it a quick brush before trotting out of her cart and towards the door. “Can I leave?” She asked.
“Yes, yes. Go.” Filthy replied, not even looking at her. Diamond smiled and opened the door, trotting down the steps and onto the train station platform. Looking around, she saw an orange pony, a green older looking pony, and a young filly with a red mane. She seemed to be about her age. The red maned filly skipped up to Diamond, a wide smile stretched across her face. “Howdy there! It’s Diamond Tiara right? Mah Granny Smith told me all about y’all!”
Diamond was a little taken aback, but she managed a nod and a few words. “Y-yeah...um, how does your granny know me?” She asked.
“Simple! Yer dad does business with our family! We sell him Zap Apple Jam every year!”
“Maybe you should introduce yourself.” Said the orange pony. She then turned to Diamond, tipping her hat slightly. “Ah’m Applejack. And this here is Applebloom. She can get a little, ‘excited’.” Applejack said with a chuckle.
“N-nice to meet you Applebloom..” Diamond replied slowly.
“Nice ta meet y’all too!” Applebloom said. “Oh! Oh! Can Ah show Diamond around?” She asked Applejack and the granny. They both nodded. “As long as its okay with ‘er parents.” The older mare said.
“My daddy will be fine with it.” Diamond replied. Applebloom’s smile grew, which Diamond didn’t think was possible. “Yeehaw! Lets go!” Applebloom raced off, leaving a trail of dust behind her. Applejack rolled her eyes but didn’t say anything. Granny seemed interested in a bee that had landed on her muzzle, so it looks like Diamond was on her own. She began to trot after the other filly, as fast as her small legs would take her. She wasn’t looking where she was going, and soon she hit something with a thud! The pink filly stumbled backwards, almost losing her balance. Rubbing her eyes, she saw that she had bumped into a silver filly with a light gray mane and baby blue glasses. Diamond noticed her flank was blank as well. She was pretty sure Applebloom’s was too! This made her smile. She was glad she wasn’t the only blank flank in town.
“I’m so sorry!” The silver filly said, adjusting her glasses which had become crooked upon impact. “I’m Silver Spoon.”
Silver Spoon. That seemed fit. “I’m Diamond Tiara. And, I’m sorry. I wasn’t looking where I was going..” Tiara replied, dusting herself off. Silver nodded. “Red mane, pink bow?” She asked.
“Yeah, how’d you know?”
“She’s one of my friends. And she just ran by, I figured you were following her. She went that w- or not.” Silver began, looking in the direction that Applebloom had run off in. Diamond turned to see Applebloom racing back to them. She skidded to a halt when she reached them, almost running into the two. “Ah see y’all met Silver Spoon! She’s really cool! And she’s got a big house too! Its neat!” Applebloom said between pants.
“Cool! I have a big house too. Well, I’m going to.” Diamond said with a smile. She wasn’t usually one to brag but...well this was a perfect moment. She could see her and Silver Spoon becoming great friends in the future! Oh, and Applebloom too.
“So, do you guys wanna come over?” Silver Spoon asked Diamond Tiara and Applebloom. Diamond nodded quickly, along with Applebloom. “Yeah!” They squealed in unison. Silver Spoon giggled and trotted as fast as her little legs would take her towards a large mansion that could barely be seen from where they were. Diamond noticed her butlers following her, and she rolled her eyes. Stupid Daddy. Why does he have to send the butlers with us? As they got closer to the mansion, Diamond Tiara noticed they weren’t following her. They were heading towards a mansion that was placed right next to Silver Spoon’s! Diamond stopped walking an squeed with delight, bouncing. “We’re going to be neighbors!” She said to Silver, who bounced with her a few times. “Yay!”
“Wow! You’re lucky, Ah live at the edge of town, waaay far from here.” Applebloom stated. She was still walking, and the two other girls quickly caught up with her.
“Really? That seems far..” Diamond replied. She didn’t know how big Ponyville was, but Applebloom made it sound far away. Applebloom just nodded as they continued walking. “So, um, are there any...bullies here?” Tiara asked the two nervously. That was one of the things she had been worried about, more bullies. Both of the fillies stopped walking and looked at each other, then started laughing. “Bullies?” The both asked. “No way! Everypony here is really nice. There are a few rude fillies and colts here and there, but they definitely aren’t bullies.” Silver Spoon explained as a butler opened the door for them. Diamond nodded and trotted in, looking around with awe. Crystal chandeliers, stained glass windows, stained glass paintings, mahogany furniture. Everything was neat, clean and in order. “Wow...” The pink filly exclaimed with bright blue eyes.
