Out of Time, Out of Place, Out of Mind
She was trapped in a place like no other. In fact, it was as if she simply ceased to be on her home planet, instead trapped here in some bizarre plane of existence, meant only for a unique brand of purgatory.
"Here" was simply a cityscape. From towering skyscrapers to large blocks of two and three story residential and commercial blocks stretching as far as the eye could see. The most unique aspect of this place was that fact that all of the buildings were crystal.
Topaz, aquamarine, emerald, amethyst, ruby, opal, and beyond forming what could be considered a dragon's wet dream. She'd call it her wet dream as well if it weren't for the fact that she was trapped in this place and therefore it was useless to her.
The beauty of the crystal city, however, held nothing when compared to the glory of building in the very center of the city. It was a towering diamond building, reaching far up into the heavens that it would take seeming days to reach the top of it. Not even the tallest buildings dotting the cityscape could compare to the hight of it, like a bunny or cat in front of a full grown dragon.
It was in this very building that she woke up in, in the board room at the very top floor. Curiously enough, once she had left that room, she could not, no matter what, get back into it.
The other curious aspect of the city was deserted. No ponies, no gryphons, no dragons, no diamond dogs.
The sun never sat as well, remaining in a fixed position in the cloudless, breezeless sky and keeping track of the time was done only by counting your own heartbeat.
It wasn't hot, but it wasn't cold, either.
Nothing worked in any place, but food and power were abundant.
Not so much a 'dead' city as it was a comatose city, waiting for someone, anyone to breathe life back into it.
She had set out in random directions from what she called the "Grand Tower" only to find that no matter what route she took, they all returned right back to the tower.
And it was here, at the plaza center, in front of the Grand Tower that she sat facing it. Not looking at it, mind you, but facing it.
In the plaza in front of the tower, there was a rather large pony made pond. Shaped like a heart and filled with the most crystal clear blue water imaginable. At least, that's what it normally looked like. Now it was filled with a thick, black, tar-like substance. Little ripples of purples, oranges, and reds spread from the center like some was dripping something in it.
For awhile, she sat at the bast of the heart pond wondering just why it changed to this. Having been quite literally everywhere else, she could easily say this had never happened before.
So she sat and looked at the black pond.
Walked clockwise around it.
Walked counterclockwise around it.
Finally, after hours that could have been days of contemplation, she stood up and walked away from it. Turning around, she cast a quick look to the Grand Tower, took and deep breath, and galloped toward the black pond.
Hitting the ledge of it, she jumped up, and with a flourish, landed in an undignified bellyflop in the center of the tar-like substance. AS she began to sink into it and feel the icy black water engulf her, he realized with horror that it might not have been the best of ideas.
She opened her mouth to scream, but was drawn under before she could even make a sound.
Within seconds of absorbing her, the black substance of the pond dissolved away, leaving the pond with its usual pristine blue water.
