Warrior Cats: First Harmony
III- Part of the clan
Previous ChapterEvery cat stared at what they saw, eyes wide with delight. There were cats everywhere, sharing food and purring conversations as they groomed each other.
All the cats were sat in a clearing, or 'camp' as the warriors called it. It was pretty large; there were boulders down the side, a large thorn bush near the centre which looked like a den of some sort, and more den-like places around the edges. The camp protected by more bushes of gorse and a number of tall-looking ferns, which looked as if they kept the wind out as well as concealing it better.
"At midday, when it is hottest, all the cats of the clan share tongues. It is when you spend time grooming each other and sharing the news of the day." Whitestorm explained, signalling the chatting and grooming cats.
More than half of the cats had turned their heads and stared towards the new cats, smelling their unfamiliar scent.
"Who is that?" One cat asked.
"That smell doesn't belong to any clan I know!" Said another.
"How come they're weird colors?" Yowled a third.
"These sort of cats shouldn't be here!" Growled a dark striped tabby. "They're trespassing on our territory!"
"Sop being such a mouse-brain, Darkstripe." Said Whitestorm, "Bluestar-"
"I don't care!" Snapped Darkstripe. "No matter what you say, they are not welcome here!"
"Hey!" Rainbow Dash snapped, "You got a problem?"
"Get out of this, you colorful pile of fox dung." Darkstripe snarled.
"Are you lookin' for a fight?" Asked Applejack, unsheathing her claws and digging them into the ground, "because, if it's a fight you want, a fight you'll get!"
Darkstripe twitched the tip of his tail in hostility. "I'd like to see you try-"
Before Darkstripe could finish what he was saying, Pinkie Pie sprang at Darkstripe, her claws unsheathed and ready for battle. She landed on his back and raked her claws down the back of his head, but Darkstripe rolled over and pinned Pinkie to the floor, knocking the breath out of her lungs. Applejack also sprang at Darkstripe, her fore paws in front of her. She hit Darkstripe in the shoulder, leaving a cut and a small trickle of blood. He was just about to hit Applejack with a blow of his paw, which loosened his grip on Pinkie. She seized the opportunity and raked her claws down Darkstripe's belly. Fluttershy nervously stepped in. She distracted Darkstripe, who stopped fighting the other two. Darkstripe tried to get Fluttershy, but she was too fast for him. Moving like the wind, she dodged his powerful blows as if they were nothing.
"Enough." Bluestar said, "We don't want any cat seriously injured before you are apprenticed. You three have definitely proved yourselves that you are worthy!"
Applejack, Fluttershy and especially Pinkie Pie felt extremely happy at Bluestar's praise, even though some of them had cuts. All of them thought that they would not be proud at all- but strangely they all felt exhilarated in battle. Maybe it was second nature to cats.
"Well done. I'll show you around later." Said Whitestorm, "oh, and... when you get apprenticed- touch noses with your mentor. It's a sign of gratefulness and affection."
"Do you think that the other three are worthy of becoming ThunderClan apprentices?" Bluestar asked Whitestorm, who turned away from praising the new cats and faced Bluestar instead.
"Yes, they showed great determination even when we were out of sight. They used their wits to find us, as they are not yet very familiar with our scents. The colorful one, especially."
"Are you sure? What about the white and purple one?"
"I think that the white one is not used too the forest at all. Even though she was reluctant at times, she carried on. As for the purple one, she's very smart- skills that will be useful someday."
"I think that you have watched closely, so if you think they are worthy, then I shall announce their arrival to the Clan as soon as possible."
"Yes, I believe that they're worthy, Bluestar. Thank you."
Bluestar leapt up onto a boulder and yowled loud enough for everyone to hear, "let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather beneath the high rock for a meeting."
Her clear call brought all the cats assembled at the bottom of high rock, and they all looked up at their leader, anticipation in their eyes.
"The Prophecy has come true. Six cats completely unknown beforehand have appeared in the forest. They are all the age of apprentices, so I shall make them apprentices right away."
Agreeing yowls rose from the audience, except from Darkstripe, who was being looked after by a 'medicine cat' and a couple of Darkstripe's friends.
"I and Whitestorm have agreed that they are worthy. They showed great courage both in battle and on the journey here. Let us start the ceremony."
All six cats stood of high rock behind Bluestar, Twilight trying to look brave but her eyes betraying her anxiety; Rarity desparately trying to make herself more presentable; Pinkie Pie hopping up and down in excitement, not caring that she had an ache in her chest; Rainbow Dash puffing out her chest proudly, and Applejack soothingly trying to comfort Fluttershy, who was trembling in fright.
Rarity stepped forward first, standing beside Bluestar. Bluestar meowed, "From this moment on, you will be known as Radiantpaw, in honour of your radiant appearance." Radiantpaw looked very pleased that the leader had called, and indeed named, her radiant.
Next was Twilight, who nervously stepped forward. "From this Moment on, you will be known as Dawnpaw, In honour of your purple pelt." Dawnpaw, like Radiantpaw, was pleased with her name. Her eyes shone with her happiness, and she stood proudly.
Fluttershy trembled, but she managed to overcome her fear and she stepped forward. "From this moment on, you will be known as Windpaw, in honour of your swift yet silent footwork." Windpaw looked amazed that she had been complimented like this, and happiness and Bluestar's words gleamed in her eyes.
Then Pinkie Pie, who was practically dying to be apprenticed. "From this moment on, you will be known as Bubblepaw, in honour of your bright and eager personality." Bubblepaw looked as if she was going to yowl out in her pure joy. Obviously she liked her name. She had to strain herself not to hop about.
Next was Applejack. "From this moment on, you will be known as Amberpaw, in honour of your amber pelt." Amberpaw also seemed to like the sound of her new name, because she too had happiness in her eyes and a little pride in there too, though not much.
Lastly was Rainbow Dash. "From this moment on, you will be known as Aquapaw, in honour of your aqua pelt." Bluestar said. Rainbow Dash Like the others, loved her name. She looked (and was) very proud of and happy with it.
"As there are so many new apprentices, I am going to ask three of my most senior warriors to mentor two each. Whitestorm, you will mentor Bubblepaw and Dawnpaw. Tigerclaw, you will mentor Windpaw and Radiantpaw. Lionheart, you will mentor Amberpaw and Aquapaw." Bluestar said. The three mentors nodded and faced the newly-named apprentices.
Bubblepaw and Dawnpaw touched noses with Whitestorm, Windpaw and Radiantpaw touched noses with Tigerclaw, a dark tabby tom, and Aquapaw and Amberpaw touched noses with Lionheart, a magnificent golden tabby tom with thick fur like a lion's mane. His powerful mucles rippled under his fur, and his battle-scarred face broke into a friendly expression as he touched noses.
The mentors seemed very friendly to all of the apprentices, apart from Tigerclaw, who didn't really seem to show any emotion. Redtail, the deputy, was offering to show the camp to the apprentices while Lionheart offered to help them meet some of the cats.
The cats moved away with their own conversations. A few cats padded up to them and congratulated them, which made the six cats happy.
Whitestorm padded up to them, Redtail by his side. Lionheart finished his conversation with another warrior and then returned to the apprentices.
"Want to have a tour of camp?" Meowed Lionheart.
"Yes please!" Mewed Bubblepaw.
"You already know high rock. Bluestar lives, sleeps and makes meetings there. It has been there for who knows how many moons." Meowed Redtail.
"This is the Elder's den. They spend most of their remaining life in there. Sometimes they might let you share some food, which is an honour." Said Whitestorm, signalling the Elder's den with a flick of his tail. "Do you want to meet them?"
"Yes please! I would like to know every cat." Bubblepaw meowed excitedly.
In the next half hour the six apprentices met all of the cats. They had met Mousefur, Runningwind and Willowpelt, who were all warriors. They met Halftail, Smallear, One-eye, Patchpelt and Dappletail, who were all elders and told stories to them, which Dawnpaw in particular loved. They met the medicine cat, Spottedleaf, and the queens, Frostfur, Brindleface, Goldenflower and Speckletail along tin their rather cute kits. They hadn't met the other apprentices yet, but Lionheart said that they would meet them when they rest.
The sun was beginning to set by the time they had finished the tour. The sunset streaked the sky with magnificent yellows and reds before it sunk into the horizon.
"I don't know about you, but I think my paws are going to fall off!" Said Radiantpaw.
"Me too." Agreed Aquapaw.
"Me three!" Said Bubblepaw.
"Let's get some rest. We have first day of training tomorrow!" Meowed Dawnpaw, strolling towards the apprentice's den, "Come on."
