Twilight Sparkle was an average pony. At least, that's what she thought she was. Sure, she was a princess and rather prone to magical outbursts of a massive extent, but generally that didn't really matter on the personal scale. Currently, Twilight was standing on a grassy field, watching Rainbow Dash perform some new tricks. As a result, she had her barrier and slowdown spells prepared. As she watched Rainbow perform a move simply called 'Break', something strange happened. The air seemed to shimmer and shatter at the same time. She realized her horn was glowing, and stopped the spell it was performing. Suddenly, the world turned black.
The first thing she remembered was loneliness. That certainly was abundant here, floating between stars. But what she was focusing on from the start was a way to get back. She thought for a while, and discovered moving her wings moved her. She eyeballed the distance to a star, and teleported. Immediately after, she decided that long-range teleportation was not a good idea. However, she was closer to the star. Suddenly, a large gray mass appeared in the center of her vision. She tried to slow down, but she approached far too quickly. She woke up later and found she was in fact on the object. After a while, she decided to build a form of house.
It started as a house and quickly became a workshop. Then it became a lab. Then, Twilight decided to tear it down and make a better one out of the massive quantities of very hard material she had found near the core of the asteroid. Then she realized she should have been working on a craft to escape this rock, and it became a spaceship. Its engines worked hard for about a minute, and she was in orbit. After establishing a telescope sight on a small green planet, Twilight burned toward it.
Twilight made a mental note to always add parachutes. After plunging into this planet's atmosphere and suffering severe burns, the ship slammed into the ground and was destroyed. After establishing a small building and a storage house, Twilight decided to build a better spaceship. She developed probes and explored her nearby solar system. Finally, she discovered the secret to interstellar flight. After sending hundreds of probes, she built her own ship and set off for a planet that looked very much like Equestria.
This time, the landing was much softer. After scouting for a while, she found a society of unicorn-like creatures near her point of development. They had interplanetary shuttles, and were working on terraforming. She decided it was safe to give them interstellar technology, and became a member of their society. They looked similar enough that Twilight was considered a member of society, although one with rather strange coloring and wings. After a long while, Twilight figured out how to return to Equestria. The only problem was it involved erasing all her memories from this universe and going back in time, having her new friends disappear.
After a long while of thinking, she decided.
