Chapter 1: Freedom

I lazily pulled myself out of my prison, the remaining chains snapping as I brought myself into the frozen wasteland of the Crystal Kingdom, if it was still called that. It had been so long since I had been imprisoned by the pony princesses, so long that the only measure of time was when Sombra was in my prison, as he seemed to always know the time. I chuckled as I looked down at the snow, his black blood frozen into puddles. The bitch deserved it. Anger flared through me as I thought about that disgusting bastard, he had been the one to summon me into this world, but at what cost?

Shaking my head to clear it I stood at my full height, allowing my wings to stretch after 2000 years of being cramped in that cave. To my eternal joy and horror, I hadn't gone insane like most human minds would have after dealing with a thousand years of isolation, most likely because of my new body, or should I say 2029 year old body? Flapping my wings to get all the cramps out I looked down at my blood covered hands. They weren't the hands I was born with, but I knew them better than them because 2000 years gives you a lot of time for self exploration.

Like how I didn't need to eat anymore or how killing things made me stronger, or even maybe how I was easily ten feet tall, have wings and skin thicker than the hardest leather. It still surprised me everyday I wasn't imprisoned how much easier it is to walk with a tail, I mean why did human's evolve into not having one? Swishing the body part around I noticed that I wasn't wearing my armor anymore. Those damned princesses must have taken it with my sword so that if I did break out I wouldn't be unstoppable. Smiling at that I felt my razor sharp fangs poke over my lower lip. It had been strange trying to eat with a mouth full of canines at first, but when I realized that they were for fighting instead of eating it was definitely easier to rip my enemies apart.

Thinking about the old days made me growl as I instinctively lowered my head so that my horns were aimed down. Calming myself down was hard, as I had found that once I was angry it was almost impossible for me to calm down. That is, unless Crystal was nearby. My fist clenched as I thought about her, Sombra's "beloved" daughter, who he had used as a physical point in reality that could anchor me to this world. If she ever died, I would be ripped from this reality and thrust back into the warp. That's why I had faith that she was still alive, or else I wouldn't be here anymore.

Unfortunately because of Sombra being an idiot, a link to the warp was connected to the young unicorn so that her magic was changed. This had caused no end of trouble as there was always the threat of a very powerful daemon deciding to posses her, but technically I was the one that had possessed her. We shared more than the link to anchor me to reality, as I could read her like a book and knew what her every move was. Unfortunately, the same could be said for her. I still remember the first time I killed someone, she couldn't stop crying even though she was nowhere near it.

Because of these links we were very close, as I loved her like she was my daughter. Sombra had noticed very quickly and to get me to listen to him he started threatening to physically harm her. His threats soon became reality as he would hurt her if I didn't follow his words to the letter, and even then he still would sometimes hurt her for fun. This caused me no end of pain as he always made sure that she was in arms length of him so that if I did try and kill him he could banish me from reality by snapping her neck. Killing him had felt good, and his soul would forever be damned to the warp.

Shaking myself from my thoughts I looked around until I saw it. The Crystal Kingdom, though it was back to the way it had been before Sombra's rule. If I was going to find out where my sword and armor were then that would be the best place to go. Once I was armed and armored I could go looking for her. Taking off I almost dive bombed the snow as I got used to flying again, as I was 2000 years rusty. Flying around I got used to it again and started on my journey to the kingdom. I really hope that it has a different name now, as another king would only cause panic.

As I got closer to the city I knew that I had been seen, as I saw guards lining up on a hastily erected wall. Had they been that paranoid that Sombra would return? Flying over the wall arrows and bolts hit me but bounced off my skin like rubber as none were sharp enough nor strong enough to puncture. Landing in a main street heading straight to the castle the crystal ponies froze where they were, not daring to move as "King Sombra's Butcher" stood in front of them. Getting to the castle was easy as no one wanted to get in my way, crowds of crystal ponies parting in fear for me. It made me sick.

Many of the crystal ponies still had nightmares about me, I could see that in their eyes. I don't blame them. I was the boogyman for them, "Don't be bad or else the King's Butcher will kill you in the middle of the night." I was near the castle when the battalion of guards flooded into the street, causing the civilians to panic. It was complete and utter chaos, but I was prepared. The guards in the back had bows and must have panicked also because a volley was shot before all the civilians had run. Opening my wings I made sure none of the arrows got past me, but in front of me stood a mother and her son. Lunging forward I grabbed the two and shielded them from the storm, my wings still spread wide.

Looking into their eyes I saw fear in the mothers directed at me which saddened me, but I saw awe in her son's eyes which made me happier. What can I say, I have a weak spot for kids. Deciding to not kill any of the guards and look epic at the same time I flung my wings open and did a front flip over the guards, both the mother and her son still in my arms. While the mother screamed her son couldn't stop laughing until we landed and I let go of them, sprinting for the castle. My body became a blur to the naked eye as I bull rushed the door, busting through as the crystal sprayed everywhere.

Guards whizzed by as I ran for the throne room. Their shouts to halt and surprised yelps made me chuckle, which to them probably sounded like the roll of thunder. Finding the throne room in the blink of an eye I opened my wings and skid to a halt, using the momentum to punch the throne room doors. The throne room doors had been made with extremely strong crystal and were easily a foot thick, thanks to the paranoia of Sombra. They didn't shatter, instead they flew about twenty feet then hit the ground, sliding to a halt just inches from the throne, er thrones.

Sitting on the thrones was a very familiar looking pink alicorn and a white stallion. "Hello Cadenza, long time no see." I said as I marched forward, their shocked looks forcing me to try not to laugh. Cadence had a look of pure fear on her face as I swear she whispered no. The stallion bolted to his hooves and drew his sword and shield, stepping in front of Cadence.

"You won't hurt my wife, Butcher." He said as my anger flared my eyes glowing brighter.

"So my reputation proceeds me. Then you should know how trying to stop me will end." I said with a growl as I didn't slow my pace until I was within lunging distance from the stallion.

"I doubt you will be able to ki-" The stallion was cut off mid sentence as I lunged at him, grabbing him by the neck with my smaller hand.

"Shining!" Cadence screamed as I lifted him off the ground and put just enough pressure on his wind pipe to make his face turn red.

"Killing you was never part of my plan." I looked down at Cadence, a wicked smile forming on my lips. "You look so much older now Cadenza! It's amazing how much can change in 2000 YEARS!" I said as she looked me in the eyes, the slaughter she witnessed when Sombra ordered me to kill the royal family playing over and over in her head. "You even got a nice little stallion for yourself." I shook Shining up a bit causing Cadence to stand, a fire in her eyes.

"Your fight isn't with my husband Seth, it's with me." I flinched at my name and dropped the smile as I got deathly serious.

"I am not here to fight you Cadenza, I actually saved a mother and her sons life on my way here. Plus I can smell the unborn foal." Cadence blushed as Shining stopped struggling and looked at me in shock with a hint of horror. "all I am here for is to ask you two questions. First, where is my sword and armor.

"Your sword and armor are still sealed in the basement of the old castle of the royal pony princesses." She said as she shot Shining an apologetic look.

"Good. Second, where is she." I glared at her as she seemed to hesitate.

"You know I can't tell you that." Cadence said as she gave me an apologetic look. This made me growl and throw down her husband, who let out a cry as I was about to break his arm.

"Stop." Every muscle in my body locked up as I lowered my clawed foot and looked at Ol' Sunbutt herself. Standing next to her was her annoying little sister and six mares that were wearing pieces of strange jewelry.

"Ah Celestia, didn't expect to see you here. You look different, did you gain weight?" I smirked as her glare intensified, Luna and the others voiced their protests but were quickly silenced by Celestia.

"How did you break free?"

"Sombra payed my little home a visit. What remains of him is frozen solid in my prison and his soul has been devoured by the warp." Everyone seemed shocked in different ways at what I had said.

"You killed Sombra?" Luna said as I nodded, a grin forming on my face.

"The bitch got what was coming for him. Now, a question for a question. Where is she." I glared back at Celestia until she finally spoke.

"You won't have your play thing back, you monster." That hit a very sore spot as I grew extremely angry.

"You think I hurt her, you sick bitch? I love her like she's my flesh and blood and you think I only see her as a PLAY THING? SOMBRA WAS THE ONE WHO HURT HER! IF I DIDN'T DO WHAT HE WANTED THEN HE WOULD HURT HER! YOU THINK I LIKED KILLING ALL THOSE PONIES? FUCK YOU!" With that I bolted for the balcony, just barely making it into the air before a rainbow crashed down behind me. Flying through the air I decided I'd follow the train tracks to the center of Equestria, then I would find the old palace.
