The lavender pony waited at the station, tapping her hoof. Where was that mare? She was supposed to be here an hour ago. Miss Utterson then heard the distant whistle of a train. The candy colored vessel came to a slow stop, its breaks squeaking. Its doors opened, revealing a pink mare with a suitcase. She stepped out, seeing the purple pony.
“You're the Doctor, I presume?” asked Miss Utterson, a slight smile on her face.
“Indeed. But please, Twilight. Call me Pinkie.”
Twilight gave a giggle. “Alright, Pinkie. So what kind of studies bring you to Canterlot?”
“I'm still trying to complete my potion,” said the Doctor, “but most of the ingredients are obtainable here. It's also a nice change of scenery. Now, I've got a couple things to do before today's meeting. I'll see you later, Twilight.” She trotted off.
What a nice pony, that Doctor Pinkie, thought Miss Utterson. And with that, she walked off.
Doctor Pinkie walked into her new home. It was quite bare at the moment, all except for a box and a suitcase in one corner. She rummaged through the box when she pulled out a picture of a grey filly. She smiled sadly. “One day, all my work will pay off. And when it does, I will have you back, my sister.” Doctor Pinkie looked at the clock. “But first, I have to prepare.”
“Doctor Pinkie. Please state what you want from the council,” said an earth pony, peering down at her through his glasses.
Nervously, the mare looked at the council. “Um...yes! As what I had...um...previously stated in my letter—”
“Get on with it, Doctor! You’re wasting our time!” sneered a pegasus pony.
“Yes. Sir, I have done many studies on the pony mind. I have come to the conclusion that the pony mind can be separated into a good and bad half. And with extra drugs, can be set to good alone. But to prove it, I’ll need a pony test subject.”
“Are you out of your mind?! Thinking you could just poke around in somepony’s brain!”
“But...it could change everything...”
“Poppycock!” scoffed the earth pony.
“Please! Just one pony! One pony doomed to insanity! That’s all I ask of you!” she begged, hoping it would change their mind.
It didn’t.
“Complete balderdash!” said a voice. Dr Cheese Layon walked in.
“You say you’re a pony of science, but you speak of madness!”
“Cheese...,” grumbled Pinkie.
“As a scientist, you pledged to a life of logic and facts! What you speak of is supernatural tomfoolery!”
“Doctor Pinkie, I do believe Doctor Layon has made our point,” said the unicorn.
“But...,” said the Doctor, looking at them sadly.
“Meeting adjourned.”
Cheese walked up to Pinkie. “I’m sorry, Doctor.”
“Just...leave me be, Cheese.” Doctor Pinkie walked out sadly, sighing.
Twilight was waiting outside the courtroom when Pinkie walked out. Miss Utterson smiled when she saw the Doctor. “So, how did it go?”
Pinkie looked at the purple mare sadly.
“Oh, Pinkie...I'm so sorry,” said Twilight.
“It is pretty sad...bunch of bloody hypocrites...I need to go home to work.”
“Oh nonsense! You need a break! Let's party!”
“I don't think so,” said the pink mare, turning away.
“Doctor Pinkie!” said a voice. It was Cheese Layon.
Pinkie immediately turned the other way. She wanted to avoid Cheese at all costs. “I've changed my mind. Let's go!”
“Wait! Pinkie!” called Doctor Layon. He sighed.
“Cheese Layon?” Twilight asked, getting a closer look at the stallion. “Why is she running from you? You used to be so close...what happened?”
“Yes, we were good friends, but her new studies have proved me to the council. But I had no choice! Her obsession made her turn a blind eye to reason and logic!” Cheese stomped his hoof on the ground in frustration.
“Oh...I understand. I'm going to take her out to get her mind off of the whole thing,” said Miss Utterson.
“Good. Maybe some time away from her madness will help clear her mind. She used to be a smart pony. Anyways,” he continued, pulling out a scroll, “she forgot this.”
“Oh, thank you, Dr. Layon. I'll be sure to give this to her. If I can ever catch up! Pinkie!” Twilight ran after her. “Pinkie! Hold up!”
She eventually caught up to the pink mare, right in front of a building. “This is the place I was going to take you!”
Pinkie looked at the building. There was a sign that read Poetry Readings.
“This? This is your definition of a party?”
“Cmon, the next reading is in five minutes!”
Doctor Pinkie caved; she agreed to Twilight's request. The two mares walked in and found a seat.
“Oh! Lance is on! You'll like him! His poetry is right up your alley!”
Lance walked on stage, scanning the audience. He cleared his throat and began.
“The mind...
a funny thing that.
Most say they are the boss,
but they are prisoners the whole time.
How can one heal another,
when they are ill themselves?
Thinking of changing ponies;
like spring into summer.
But to help others, maybe you first have to know
where your current mind is because
you might be crazy.”
The pink mare walked into her bedroom, trotting to the lab table. She grabbed a vial with a purple liquid inside then grabbed a vial with orange liquid inside. Mixing the two, the potion then turned a dark green. Pinkie smiled successfully, then drank the contents of the vial. She waited. Nothing happened.
“Well that was bunk.”
Suddenly, an excruciating pain exploded behind her eyelids. It felt like somepony was embedding a railroad spike in her brain. The mare screamed in pure agony, then fell limp to the floor.
Then, like a tiny rose, she heard a dark voice.
“I want to play....”
