Applebloom pounded her hooves down on the floorboards as she leaped from under her covers. It was exactly one month until the annual apple festival. She grasped the marked in her mouth and drove it across the calender, crossing out the number 7. 7 Had always been her favorite number, probably because the apple festival was her favorite time of the year.
There was thunder rumbling down the stairs as Applebloom almost collapsed at the bottom.
"What the hay is goin' on out 'ere?" Applejack called from the next room. She stepped through the doorway, the sun catching her silk blonde mane. A sheepish look grew on Applebloom's creamy yellow face.
"Don't yer know what day it is?" There was barely anytime left for Applejack to answer before Applebloom had gathered enough excitement to let it out uncontrollably. "It's a month 'til apple festival!" She cried.
Granny Smith had heard Applebloom's shouts of joy and had awoken from her morning nap. She stretched her jaw open and gave way for a yawn. It hadn't been long until the voice of Applebloom had returned, followed by Applebloom's gallop into the room.
"Granny Smith, it's a month 'til apple festival, ain't ye excited?!"
"It's a grunt filled cattle special?- what?" Granny Smith had lent down towards Applebloom's mouth, holding her head on a side.
"Apple festival!" Applebloom cried once again that early morning.
Granny Smith stuck her spine up, grinning.
"Apple festival!" She echoed joyfully. Her old memories flooded through her mind as she remembered the food, the games, the pie competition and the present giving. "Ma favorite time of the year!"
It was true, it was most of the apple family's favorite time of the year.
Applebloom turned to Applejack, unable to keep her voice low. She too had remembered the present giving and had always had a curious side to it.
"Applejack, what are you givin' for the present givin'?" It was a big memory of Applejack's last year present giving. She had spent all her free time developing the barn after a large, dangerous storm. It was now beautiful and adored by everypony.
Applejack paused to look down at Applebloom and grin.
"Applebloom, that's ages away!" She laughed.
"Aw, c'mon Applejack, it's only a month away!"
Applejack laughed again, scruffing Applebloom's hair as she trotted out the door.
Applebloom would have sulked, but she was too excited, though the day was still young and it did feel like ages away.
"Ah wish apple festival was tomorrow." Applebloom moaned, bored slumped on the couch. She watched her sister wolf down home made apple pie in the most unattractive way. There was silence after that.
Applebloom looked out the window, she saw the sun setting on the horizon and blinding her with it's golden shine. The grass was being blown gently in the wind and all was peaceful.
Abruptly, clouds formed in the purple sky and the wind became violent. Applejack noticed the sudden changes and stood up.
"If ah didn't know any better, I'd say we were in for a storm." She said calmly, though her expression was serious and worried. The black clouds were gathering and shouting down their thunders.
The barn in the distance began to shake and the wind blew stronger.
"What's gonna happen?" Applebloom asked quietly. Applejack kept her focus out the window as the tapping rain grew stronger and began pelting again the window glass. The winds picked up high until the apple tree's roots were barely attached to the ground.
Applebloom looked up at Applejack. But Applejack had turned pale with worry. Winona was still outside becoming drenched and swept away.
Applejack swung the door open, ignoring the little yellow filly that followed outside after her. Winona's whines were heard from the other end of the orchard as Applejack galloped through the tree's.
"Hurry Applejack!" It was too late, Applebloom's calls were too quiet and too far away. She galloped outside, no where near Applejack.
Applejack had caught up with Winona, she took her into the barn and Applebloom was left alone.
"Applebloom, come back!" Granny Smith had shouted to Applebloom, but Applebloom had been hypnotized by the winds movements in the distance.
The clouds swirled uncontrollably, a cone formed underneath them and dangled down, expanding to form a tornado. Applebloom's heart missed a beat, she was unable to run, her mouth gaped open. Within short notice, the end of the tornado slammed down on the earth and rumbled across the land, swallowing anything in it's path.
The lightning flashed in Applebloom's eyes, they widened to the experience.
"Applebloom, come back, now!" Granny Smith yelled again, only louder as she panicked.
More and more lightning flooded the sky, until finally, Applebloom came to her senses and began to run towards the house.
She didn't want to turn back around in fear of slowing down. Her eyes were fixed on the open door that Granny Smith reached out for Applebloom. Applebloom had somehow built up enough temptation to look back over her shoulder, and so she did.
There was another bolt of lightning that crawled down from the sky, it had seemed like time had stopped in Applebloom's view, but it hadn't left her a second to notice what had hit her, when she was struck.
